Thursday 27. Cloudy, showery, not at all unpleasant but. Newcastle mall vied today for a place in the record book. Frenzy of support punctuated by the odd offensive loud opposer. I've learned to deal with them. Specific comments tailored to the individual. Sometimes a mere 'there's no need to be rude' will restrain a thoughtful person. For the crazy ones total non-response is best. Response in kind always a risky proposition. Be prepared to run. Into a shop will stop most. Especially when there is a crowd. I am non-violent. That's popular. Back to Newcastle, the coal carriers wait on a benign sea. Rainbows for decoration. I went to the office of the Australian Flag Association and left a sticker for Colin-in-charge. He's some tycoon in the Hunter. So I've sent my message on a sticker, ... read more

So here we are in our new city, the place where we will spend the next 3 months of our lives, working, living and being..... cold??!!! That's right it's winter here and jeans, vest and jumpers are now needed, for the next term of our world adventure. I am very sad to say goodbye to: Hot sun, boardies, surfing, sunglasses, thongs, vests, bikini clad women, layed back beach life, east coast partying, clear blue skies, beautiful beaches and last of all not worrying about your appearance one bit!! Matt and I had to leave one part of the three musketer's behind in Cairns as Chris was due to fly to Sydney to meet his parents for a couple of weeks. This would be the first time we've been apart for nearly 6 months so as the ... read more

Well I'm back home and back at work after 7 great weeks in the Philippines. After my last update from Market Market I went home and finished the book I've been reading - "I am Charlotte Simmons", that night Eleanor, Justine and I went back to the Chef and Brewer to listen to some live music and enjoy a few drinks, the frozen Margeritta was great. Saturday was a bit of a lazy day, in the morning we just relaxed around the house and at around 3pm we went into the tourist area of Manila, we visted Paco Park, Rizal Park, Intramuros and the Bay Walk along Roxas Boulevarde. Intramuros is a city within a city with centuries old walls and plazas, it reminded me of Vigan with the old spanish buidlings, cobblestone streets and horse ... read more

Hey everyone....well, its May. I feel like I have only been here for a month, time goes by sooo fast. I went camping for two nights in the bush with the girls. That was really fun, the kids are great. Then I went camping another night with a group of 15 boys and girls. That was really great, the kids are usually good...out of Anna and I, I am the "strict" one...haha. This experience, being a teacher and having to deal with 15 year old kids has been awesome. I really hated teaching the first week, mainly because I didnt know the kids and was having a hard time learning how to teach 15 year olds when Im only 19. But then after I got to know them, it got easier. Ive realized that you have ... read more

Alrighty, all packed up ready to jump on that big bird out of here. Just sitting down knocking off a bottle of Rockfords, watching a bit of Air Crash Investigations - it's important to know what to do in case something goes wrong - so far I have learnt that all you can do is sit in your seat with a concerned look on your face, but that hasn't seemed to help anyone in the past. So, on the first flight out tomorrow to Sydney then a couple of hours of swanning around in the Qantas Club before making our way to Hong Kong just in time for Michael to have dinner with his Grandma and Grandpa. The next day will be a big one for Michael because he'll get to meet all his heroes at ... read more

After our whitsundays trip, we booted it down to Surfers Paradise to meet up with Questy and Sarah at a friends birthday party. The party was in an old colonial style house that has been turned into a club. It was a wicked party with a few different djs playing breakbeat style house accompanied by a live bongo player, who by the end of the night, because of so much bongoing had plasters on every finger, now thats hardcore bongoing!!!! The party was wicked and everyone made us feel very welcome, so big up to all the Kiwi massive !!!! Vix's Birthday today......... Happy Birthday Vix!!!!! Jordan (Vix Boyfriend currently travelling South America) called Vix first thing- bless him- it made her day! And so did the huge boquet of flowers he had sent to her!!!! In fact she was crying for hours!!!! Out of happiness I hope!! I had work today but only until 2pm so it gave me some time to prepare the party for Vix! She had taken the day off work so I demanded she went out for the rest of the day (returning with the best fish and chips for tea) so I could bake the rest of the Cadbury's Harriot the Hedgehog cake (which i'm sure you all remember from your 3rd birthday or close!!!!) which ended up looking like a bit of a road kill really (but its the ... read more

Our Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore to Sydney was lovely (they are possibly our favourite airline!!!) We sat next to a really nice lady called Rose (Rose at office Depot - must be something about the name!!!) The 6 1/2 hour flight seemed quicker than it was - watched some good movies and had great food! We all got a little worried when the Captain came on the speaker about 1 hour before landing! Apparently when we had taken-off there was some tyre debris on the runway so, before we taxied in, we would technicians check our tyres! Then, he came on again and said we would be escorted in by fire engines! Great! So, to ease our minds and relax us we landed in Sydney with flashing red & blue lights!!! Needless to say, everything ... read more

I must admit I've never been into the Shrine of Rememberance though I've walked around that area before. It was built right after WW1, and is the largest war memorial in Victoria. This is the holy ground for Australians, where they remember all the troops who fought in various wars. Something about this place, the pictures, the medals, the quietness, really makes one ponder about the lives that were lost and what the whole point of war is. ... read more

It's been nearly a week since i last updated this, and we've done quite a bit since then, including doing to the West Coast Eagles v Brisbane Lions Aussie Rules Footy match at the 43,000 seater Subiaco Stadium, which was great fun (even though it took us nearly an hour to actually work out how its played!) We were supporting the Eagles, as they are the local team, and they unded up thrashing the lions 122 - 63 which only made things better. We also went down to the WACA (the cricket ground where part of the ashes is going to be played in december), and although the ground was closed, the security guard was nice enough to let us in to have a look around, and then spent about half an hour telling us how ... read more
