The next day, we took our stuff to Leyl’s house who’s also in Melbourne, returned the car and started to find jobs and somewhere to stay. I met up with a friend from Thailand, which was really nice and we went for dinner and some tea. On the was back from a bar, we passed a little park where a man was standing! I was thinking ok, weirdo, its 2am, but he was actually feeding possums and after we were talking to him for a bit, he let me feed one! It was so cute and reached forward, took the biscuit (custard cream, highly unnutritous) and then ran back up the tree!. The man said that sometimes they don't eat them as obvioulsy they know they're full of crap, but then other times, like then, they ... read more

On the way to Sovereign Hill, we did a tour of the Wildlife Park. I still get excited seeing kangaroos! They're just so friendly and come up to you hoping you'll feed them. As we sat waiting for our tour guide, there must have been at least 6 kangaroos surrounding me. Got to see a lot of local wildlife up close here, we completed this tour in under an hour. A recommended stop if you're going to Sovereign Hill.... read more

Onneks on viiminen työaamu tänään. ... read more

Hi folks time for another blog!! leaving Alice and heading ever northwards we stayed just 1 night at Wauchope, just 10 k south of the funny rocks known as The devils Marbles, It’s just a pub/ hotel with a campsite and petrol station, the site is grassy and flat, it’s quiet and best of all the pub is good and the people very friendly. The Devils Marbles are like humongous pebbles dumped in the middle of the desert, they are worn round and piled up on each other, quite a sight, but then so many things are in this amazing country!! Amongst many things it’s the geology of the country that seems so interesting! We have a peaceful night and are off early next morning, just calling in again at the Marbles, we’ve got 800 k ... read more

Melbourne - 3/22 I spent a few days in my first stop getting a plan organized for my 6 weeks in Australia. I decided to fly to Cairns and travel down the east coast. Melbourne was hosting the Commonwealth Games so the streets were packed with people in the final week. I spent some time grinding it out at the Crown Casino. My last night playing cards there I saw WSOP champ Joseph Hatchem playing a few tables away from me. Cairns - 3/27 I landed at midnight and stepped off the plane into the hot and humid air that makes up the climate in northern Australia. I didn't do much because of the rain that poured down over the couple days I was here. Decided a trip to the Great Barrier Reef would be better ... read more

Right, sorry I’m so behind with these blog thingies but the pub's been calling me on a daily basis and I’ve had to sort myself out with a job and other such minor things so been a bit distracted. Anyway, as I should've been saying 4 months ago… The drive from Rockingham to Adelaide took me 4 days in total with stops in Albany, Norseman and Ceduna before finally arriving in Adelaide on Saturday night to meet up with Paul and tom who I'd met in Singapore. I was planning on going to see The Valley of Giants and Esperance on the way through but it was dark or closed when I turned up so no joy there and the Nularbor was just as dull as I imagined - 160km or so of perfectly straight road... ... read more

4-5 May - Katherine We left Kununurra late morning for our drive to Katherine. We lost 1.5hrs crossing the border into the Northern Territory (haven’t we heard that song before?), but at least we could cross. The Victoria River bridge had only opened up 2 days before after being under water. It’s been a very late wet season this year helped on by Cyclone Monica a couple of weeks ago. There’s still water on the road at most of the creek crossings, and plenty of damage on the roads and bridges where the rivers have flooded. As an example the Victoria River had overtopped the bridge 6 times this season, usually it only happens once or twice. Big wet (as they say up here). It’s delayed allot of things up here including mustering, even the annual ... read more

Thursday 4th May to Thursday 11th May 2006 Work! - yes work!! At Everbloom Flowers in West Leederville - a 20 minute train ride from Fremantle. The snag was getting up at 5.30am!!! wooah! That was pretty hard first of all! It was just to help out for Mother’s Day and help fill buckets of water, collect the flower off the conveyor belt, put the stickers on… I even had to put some bunches of roses together! As you know working with flowers is more or less my idea of a nightmare! - especially with hayfever!! he! he! Luckily I didn’t sneeze too much. But I have to say I’d prefer not to smell ‘gum’ (aka eucalyptus) anytime soon!! ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Noosa May 4th 2006

At Brisbane's coach terminal, just before I boarded the coach to Noosa, I was asked to weigh in my bags....my backpack is 21.1kg and my small backpack is 10.6kg! Holy Shite! I really need to sort this out, 31.7kg is just a tad over my 20kg baggage limit on busses and planes! Still, with a bit of re-arranging, they let me board and I headed off to Noosa. Noosa is a really, really, gorgeous place. I only managed to spend a couple of days here but loved it instantly. Tea Tree Bay is stunning with gloriously clear waters peppered with long white/transparent fish that swim between your legs. During a wander through Noosa National Park I spotted a turtle swiming to the surface for air at Hells Mouth and my first cuddly Koala, Steve Erwin eat ... read more
