So after Brisbane we headed on up to Hervey Bay, the gateway to Fraser island, the world's biggest sand island. We were a tad worried that in true style we hadn't booked anything and everyone else we knew had booked months ago, oops. Basically, because it's a sand island you need a 4*4 so you either go on a organised tour or you hire a land rover, given the price difference we went for the cheaper option of driving ourselves, how hard could it be?? When we went to pick up our rental we had to watch a video of how to drive on the island which along with the "be aware of dingoes" talk put the wind up us a little!! But we jumped into the car and drove down to the ferry, drove slowly ... read more

Well, we have certainly experienced mixed fortunes over the last few days... some of the best and worst weather, spectacular scenery, and unbelieveable displays of incompetence. I'll begin with the positives. The last couple of days have had great weather, Josh, Rob, Sam (Rob's army mate) and I spent today on Manly beach (we had planned to go a few days back but it was raining). Manly was much nicer than Bondi beach... Bondi was too touristy while Manly was a lot quieter, much easier to find room to move. Josh and I got up at 4 this morning to watch Barca beat Arsenal in the Champions League, unfortunately the TV cut out over Lehmann's sending off (really gutted to miss that but was delighted when we worked out what had happened!!). Another highlight of our ... read more

I am leaving Adelaide in less than an hour. Running very late, but whats new? Wednesday night was my birthday and I caught up with some old school friends for dinner at the famous Earl of Leister. The place is definately not famous for the decor, not that parma's, pokies and plastic plants dont all compliment each other perfectly, its just that the place lacks a bit of....um....character. They are, however, famous for the sheer quantity of food that is slapped in front of you. I documented the meal, simply because after the amount of effort I put into eating it, I was scared no-one would believe such a tall tale. Seriously, the photos do it no justice, it was massive. It was easily as big as my head, and I have a pretty big head. ... read more

Today we got a boat to swim with whale sharks...which not only are the biggest shark but also the biggest fish in the world! We got on the boat and were told that we would just drive out to a dive site, so the divers could do their dive and we could have a snorkel, and get used to hearing directions for when we would swim with the whale shark. So that was fine, the divers got ready and literally just hit the water - and managed to drop right on top of a whale shark! All we heard was "whale shark, whale shark - get ready", so instead of the normal first snorkel etc we literally just jumped in on a whale shark...it was so exciting. You have to sit on the back of the ... read more

;) ollaanhan me harjoteltu tota kauniina olemista jo 3kk.. :P Sit käytiin limuilla ennenku piti lähtee takas junalle. On a recommendation from my brother and his family (especially my nephew Anthony), I went to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures, in between Cairns and Port Douglas. There were over 200 freshwater and estuarine crocodiles at the park. Sounds like a lot until you find out most of them are in the farm and are future handbags and boots. I saw a crocodile named Sollie after the pet dog it ate on New Year's Day and a huge (about 15 feet long) croc named Paul who was brought to the park after some rancher got tired of him eating their dogs and biting the heads off their cattle. Appropriately, there was a cow skull in the habitat with Paul. A lagoon that took seven years to grow/build had 26 crocodiles; 18 females and eight males. To visit them, ... read more

Day 39 - Thursday 11 May 2006 Carnarvon to Coral Bay We didn’t travel that far today but we were glad to get out of the condensation and the hot weather. In Carnarvon it gets cool at night and gets really hot in the morning. I was eating my breakfast this morning and got dripped on. It is really wet underfoot but soon drys up. Graeme didn’t like Carnarvon too much but I thought it was okay. We arrived at Coral Bay about lunchtime and decided to put the annexe up. We booked in for 3 nights as Maureen and Harry said it was a beautiful spot. It is not much of a town except basically accommodation, tours, small shopping centre and a pub. We drove in and thought there was only one caravan park but ... read more

After about four movies on an uneventful flight from Bangkok I was back in Sydney, though it was quite a bit colder than when I had left back in January! I was sooooooooooo happy to be back. I started work three days after arriving and settled in straight away. It was a bit of an adjustment working full time, but I absolutely loved my colleagues and went from knowing just the basics about immigration law to learning a great deal. The view in the office was amazing, as the picture to the right shows. It took my breath away on the first day! It was fun being one of only two Americans in the office and at times people from the other divisions who were dealing with Americans immigrating abroad would ask me questions about the ... read more

So in order to get my Visa changed from a Working Holiday to a Work Permit, I needed to leave the UK. We decided to do 2 weeks in Sydney while the UK authorities did their part and then 2 weeks in NZ while the Kiwi's did their part. We flew out of London on Emirates to Dubai for 2 hours, then Bangkok for 1 hour, and touched down in Sydney about 7am. Charmaines mum picked us up, got us cleaned up and then straight to Yum-Cha for brunch! After lunch it was time for some shopping and then a quick stop to pick up 1kg of raw and 3kg of cooked prawns. This was how we spent a lot of our time in Sydney: shopping, eating seafood and drinking wine! Great!! It was my first ... read more

I got to see my first crocodile though (although it was tiny!). We were mean't to be going canoeing but we couldnt as there were too many fresh water crocs about!!!! We were all abit dissappointed but didn't fancy wrestling with crocs! Being the Steve Urwin I'm not!!!! We arrived in Darwin and it was beautiful weather! ... read more
