If you were still worried, then I'm ok - the mosquitoes attack was over and maybe they were not sand flies after all because they didn't itch for too long. So on Wednesday I went on this 4WD safari tour. It was a nice day although a huge waste of money... I thought we would do some hiking but we walked for maybe 15 minutes... crossing the range with the 4WD was awesome, I admit to that. And then we also had a boat cruise in a really lovely gorge called Yardie Creek Gorge. The cakes that came with morning and afternoon tea were really tasty... and that's about it, the rest of the day was boring :-) However, every minute of watching this beautiful cristal clear water in the ocean here is amazing. In the ... read more

I invented the term to describe my unexplainable fear of fish in the sea. I love fish on my plate… and I can handle them when I swim in fresh water pool in rivers. But I can’t go snorkeling in the open sea! I did it once years ago in Eilat, but that was the only time. I came here determined to get over that. I know, they are small, they are more scared of me… but I simply couldn’t. I only enjoy the fish when there is thick glass between us, as in an underwater observatory or a glass bottom boat. Well, of course here wasn’t a good place to overcome my fear when I hear about sea snakes (more venomous than land snakes! They say they don’t attack if you don’t harass them, but ... read more

I left Perth when it started really raining, and headed into the tropical north of Australia, a land of eternal sunshine! On Friday when we left it rained pretty badly, and it rained most of the time when we were driving to our first destination, but miraculously the rain stopped when we got there. That was the Pinnacles dessert, a very strange phenomenon of stone poles, different heights, sizes and shapes, just stuck there in the middle of the sand. I can't say it's an amazing place but really interesting. We continued driving further north and stopped for the night in a tiny town called Northampton, where we stayed in a backpacker called "the old convent" and it's really a building of an old convent. It felt a bit spooky to go through the angels sculptures ... read more

We spent a day at Caversham Wildlife park at the weekend, it was great, it's in the middle of Whiteman Park, about 30KM's North of the city. It houses all different species of Australian animals in a natural surrounding, there aren't many fences (apart from the main one around the park) and most of the animals are free to roam about and that. There's loads to see and you're allowed to interact with the animals, feeding them, racing them, challenging them to jumping competitions etc. We see loads of different things, Cassowary, Lorikeets, Flying Foxes, Koalas, Quokka, Wallabies, Walleroos, Kangadrews, Tasmanian Devils, Kookaburra, Damas, Falcons, Eagles, Busards, Curlew, Dingos, Potteroos, Wombats, Gliders, Camels etc. I'll probably fill in the blanks at a later date but am starving so away to eat a Kangaroo steak, wonder if ... read more

I was supposed to leave Perth yesterday but my English travel-mate asked to postpone it to Friday. At first I was disappointed but then I thought that I could really enjoy 2 more days of not doing much. The most I did was read my Tom Clancy book. Once you start reading it you can't leave it. I sit in cafes, I sit on benches just out there, I sit in the lounge of my hostel, and I read. I am also keen to finish it cause I want to start my new book that I bought here (the "Almost French" - I'll tell you about it once I read it). I also went a few times to art galleries. All museums are free here so you can wander around as many times as you want. ... read more

Ok... time has run away with me. I'll do my best to update without boring! During our time in Fremantle, we had two tours of the prison... the first was a scary ghostly torchlight night tour with some other hostelers. We were given a reduced rate for a daylight tour so we went back a week later and were taken on a 'Great Escapes' tour. It was fascinating learning how prisoners plotted escape routes, knocked through walls etc. In an attempt to keep fit, we force ourselves to swim or jog a few times a week. A children's playground near the Old Firestation proved most useful for pull-ups, press-ups and allsorts - even in the rain!! It was lovely having a beached section to jog next to. We made a few feeble attempts at car shopping, ... read more

I came back to Perth Sunday night having 2 big missions: visiting Perth Mint (because Erez said it was a must) and finding lift / travel mates to go north together. Monday was almost fully spent on that task (and in the meantime I also extended my visa to Australia to end of August!). After visiting some backpackers and checking their notice boards, I came back to my own hostel just to discover there was a British girl sitting in the cafe there and she was looking for the same thing! The rest of the day was spent on renting a car and looking in more notice boards for a third partner. So we are going together tomorrow morning, and we'll know tonight whether it's the 2 or 3 of us. I was so glad to ... read more

It was our friend Pam's birthday so we all went to quazar, i'm sure my gun wasn't working properly i seemed to be getting shot far too many times, but it was fun. Off to the sail and anchor for drinks afterwards. 01/06/05 Pinch punch first day of the month!, still in Fremantle and that night we went on a torchlight tour of the old fremantle prison, it was a really interesting tour learning about all the ghosts that roam the prison and having actors jump out at you, i think the girls found it more scary than me though!! Have been spending this week doing random jobs like gardening and window cleaning (anything to pay the rent), and spending the rest finding out about buying cars over here. We need to escape as we are ... read more

Sorry guys, just added all those emails as Blog updates and most of you have read them before so I thought I'd better add a new Blog!! We've been here at the Old Firestation in Fremantle for a week now and, after James initial impression of no-one being friendly, we have made some ickle pals and the place has grown on us! Fremantle is lovely, and the sun was out for us all last week, which was glorious. James has begun to chill and has settled, seeming much more confident and more like himself. We even spend a whole day sitting on a swingchair, reading and doing nout!! Fremantle is only about 1/2 hour away from Perth, on the train. It's on the coast and there is a harbour as well as beaches. This hostel has ... read more
