Me & Leonie
My new German buddy! Sorry guys, just added all those emails as Blog updates and most of you have read them before so I thought I'd better add a new Blog!!
We've been here at the Old Firestation in Fremantle for a week now and, after James initial impression of no-one being friendly, we have made some ickle pals and the place has grown on us!
Fremantle is lovely, and the sun was out for us all last week, which was glorious. James has begun to chill and has settled, seeming much more confident and more like himself. We even spend a whole day sitting on a swingchair, reading and doing nout!!
Fremantle is only about 1/2 hour away from Perth, on the train. It's on the coast and there is a harbour as well as beaches. This hostel has so many free offers - internet, pool, playstation, laundry... it's a backpacker's paradise which is probably why so many have been here for months on end!! It's a fab lay-out with a computer juke box in the back yard, where everyone hangs out, a tannoy to announce happenings and job offers... and many friendly dudes!
With the weather so nice, we
Woo Party!
Dan, Maggie, Mary, Martina & Me! even went to Cottlesloe Beach one day, had a laze on the nice warm sand and a swim in the rather chilly sea! Or a fight to get each other in... guess who won?! But he followed me in when I starting swimming about! We didn't last long however... just like home, with added seaweed that wraps round your leggies... eek! And waves that wash over your head! Lovely beach though, and we watched the fishermen as the sun went down behind them. :-)
We have cooked a few meals and also eaten out for our birthdays... for mine we had Fish and Chips for lunch, as I had been craving them for months, and there are many fish markets around here. For my birthday we also took a ride in a Scootcar - very funny - and I received loving phonecalls from my friends and family :-). James tried to make it special for me and made sure I was happy all day (exhausting!) We cooked our own dinner and I was prepared for a few drinks and an early night but we got playing cards with some people in the yard and once they learnt it was

Another lovely beach we found on our wanders! my birthday, they insisted we go out with them.
With Pam, Martina, Mary, Maggie, Dan and Johnny, we went to Little Creatures (warehouse/brewery) then The Sail and Anchor, before hitting the club - The Clink (previously a jail)... where we were unexpectedly amused by half naked men on parade!! Gay, we decided, as the other women screamed their hearts out... funny.
So a good night overall... Saturday was our day of doing nothing, after which, I joined in some drinking games organised out back... $10 each and $400 worth of alcohol! Youngsters these days! I then joined James in watching a film until the partying died down...
Sunday we toured the markets and sword-swallowing street performers (just like Covent Garden... almost!) and bought some goodies for our Sunday Roast! Mmmm my 1st one in 3 months! Unfortunately the oven wasn't working so I attacked the little guy (having walked him across the counter) and we had fried chicken, veggies and gravy YUMMMM!!
Monday we missed our alarm (James is getting real good at being lazy - I was supposed to be relying on him to be my motivator!) but we caught a ferry to Rottnest Island

Me sploshing! anyway (just like the Catermaran, Islanders!).
The weather wasn't as sunny as promised and we were cut short with time, but we peddalled our way round the island, stopping to see beaches, Quokkas (wierd rat/kangaroo style animals) and a beautiful Pelican (got pics 4 u Mumma!)... so we got some exercise but we were starving and weary as all we had to feed on for 4 hours was water, apples and a carrot!
Also, it was too cold and we had too little time to swim :-/ Pizza for dinner ($7/pounds-3.50 for a large) mmm!
We have now changed rooms, as the other was next too the yard (v noisy), which worked out for the best cuz now we have our own little 2-storey funky attic den! And we're closer to the toilets and kitchen area :-D. So we're here for another week. We're gonna look for available jobs, get James' visa sorted, vist the prison at night (woo!) and probably chill some more!
I'll keep ya posted! Oh and sort some more pix.
Much love,
Debz xxx
