march 26, 09. have been having health issues which now look to be under control. it can be a very energy sapping experience. flag news is that the woman who was doing the bathers seems to have hit a block as she can't find any bathers in stores as its autumn. maybe she'll find something at the op shop. told her not to stress as this has been an idea for five years so no rush. still seeing stickers around town. some of them are incredibly old and in good shape. sadly many of the newer versions aren't as durable. autumn weather perfect in perth. warm sun, cool dry air filling the lungs. traffic terrible as the population increase from resource boom has filled the streets. now the crunch comes. jobs going yet rents still high ... read more

16-3-9 wet by j.b. o'reilly's cambridge st. west leederville and 'southern cross and boomerang' was still flying. faded and tattered it has been over three months. went in to give paul north the owner a new one. he insisted on paying me. he's one of our staunchest supporters. bathers not yet in sight. will be in fremantle on wednesday and will talk to seamstress. otherwise had health scare but for the moment all ok. summer continues hot. the days are shortening but and soon we'll even get rain. then it will be time to plant on the dunes, that project begun over ten years ago and showing wonderful results. still see the occasional sticker on car, van, truck or ute. i even get bailed up occasionally and asked how the campaign is going. after the bathers ... read more

Good morning! It's 9:30am here and i have just returned from the morning's outting to Cottesloe Beach where we watched thousands of swimmers start a grueling 19.2km swim from Cottesloe to Rottnest Island. This happens once a year and we had to wake up before the sun at 6am so that we could get a good spot down at the beach to watch the first wave of people set off. The view out onto the ocean was absolutely stunning. It was so hot too that early which was lovely wake up to, it definitely beats the freezing walk along the Thames to the tube station that i used to do every morning! We had a perfectly clear view of Rottnest and there were oil tankers, cruise liners, big boats, little boats, kayaks, jet skis and canoes ... read more

Hello again everyone!! ...ready to hear some more adventures? Well, I ended up only leaving Sydney on the 30th of January when I was supposed to leave on the 2nd... Its true what they say about that place and the people- its impossible to leave! And if I hadnt had a whole (rather large) country to see I could have easily stayed there forever! (Ill definately be back!) The last few weeks in Sydney included doing a 3 day costal walk with a friend, it was so beautiful and we saw some amazing wildlife along the way! It was strange being so close to Sydney and yet all of the beaches we walked through and camped on were completely deserted! I also went to an amazing mexican party, had a few drunken nights out in Manly ... read more

drove along the coast to fremantle, its realy nice there - older, the oldest western settlement in WA, the houses look like the wild west - thats called colonial apparently. we went to the round house first, where the first convicts from england were held. at 1pm they fire a cannon and drop a time-ball - it used to be done to tell the whole town what the time was - thats were the phrase "on the ball" comes from. Fremantle is a bit bigger than maidstone but with a harbour - lots of massive cargo ships waiting to dock. we walked through the town, theres a few nice furnature and clothes shops we walked along a street they call acppucino street - for obvious reasons, and into the market - a bit like covent garden ... read more

In six days time I'm leaving to go to Denmark, so I thought I'd set this up and write a pre-exchange entry. To be honest, I've not had much time to really think about going to Denmark, as I've been going out so much. It was Laura's 18th on Friday, I'm going to work and then probably to stay the night at Mai's house tonight, it's Austen's birthday party on Tuesday, and then it's mine on Thursday. But if I do really think about it, a suppose the outstanding emotion is excitement. I'm surprised to find that I'm not really that scared, just a little sad at having to leave everyone behind this year. I don't really know much about where I'm going or what I'll be doing this year. I suppose I've been a little ... read more

Entry by Jules Friday 12/12/08 We decided to have another lazy morning on the beach at Cottesloe, this time a little further south along the coastline. This wasn't quite so good as Thursday morning in that we had to share the beach with lots of other people! After lunch we headed to Perth to catch up on a couple of jobs - nothing very exciting to report here I'm afraid. On our return to Cottesloe we headed to the bar adjacent to the hostel for a couple of beers and to play some pool. Later that evening we strolled down to the beach to watch the sun dip below the horizon. Further along the promenade, as darkness was slowly descending on the town, we noticed something fairly unusual. Hundreds of what we think are parrots were ... read more
