We're writing from Freo after getting back from the South Coast Journey. It was great! As it bloody well should be :) We had a veg out day in Margaret River so we went fishing (caught bloody nothing) and it was rather hilarious when some inexperienced canoeists came past...briefly and then proceeded to progress backwards haha HILARIOUS! We travelled towards Albany...still f***in raining...went through Walpole particuarly to experience the famous treetop walk where Goody discovered heights may just bother him. We were 40m in the air in unstable ground and he was a big baby! hehe We spent the last two days in Albany seeing the sights- the gap, the natural bridge, the blow holes, etc. Still raining at this stage...all part of the adventure :) The blow holes actually managed to snap Amy's umbrella. Went ... read more

Hey all! Well I wrote and (thought I) saved an entry, and now that I'm here to upload pictures and post, it's no where to be found. :( This morning I woke up and did the usual jog followed by a shower and breakfast. I finally tried vegamite this morning. I was told by several people to make toast, put butter on it and just a very small amount of vegamite. So I did. And I have to say that I wasn't a big fan. I feel like it has more of a "dinner flavor". It was too salty for me. It wasn't terrible. I would recommend everyone try it at least once. So... that was my first "first" of the day. Haha. So, I took my shower and head up to the Uni to meet ... read more

Our last few days were spent touring Freemantle. It's a really pretty city on the water with small cafe's, stores and restaurants etc. Some time was spent on the beach to say our goodbye's but no one was there. It was a "cold" day I guess one would say? Once Roisin finished her exam, her housemates and a few girlfriends joined us in a wonderful dinner. It was a lovely night and we will miss everyone. Roisin's friends are wonderful and Perth was an amazing time! Hopefully everyone comes to Canada to visit one day! The 30th was spent packing, writing some post cards and travelling to Sydney.... read more

Hello, One of the first places white folks came ashore on the westcoast to start building tentcamps, and begin a little town, was Fremantle. A very nice place to visit now, as they realised that keeping the buildings as original as possible, give a certain cachet. Went for a visit to the prison, created in the early 1800's, and remained in function untill 1991.

FINALLY! Seems like it took forever (actually it took 3 days in total to get to Perth), but we are here. Roisin picked us up from the airport and as oppose to sleeping and working off the long travel, we decided that it was a great idea to go out! lol. You must think we are mad, but it actually helped to keep us awake for a smooth transition into Australia time. We went to a little brewery called Little Creatures in Fremantle and Kaurie had to wear this rediculous hat to reserve a table. The ironic part about it was that it said "I am Canadian on it" lol. We ordered Kangaroo and it was actually very good! (imagine that?) Roisin's friend Kate met up with us and then we went to a place called ... read more

Tuo taitaa olla ensimmainen lause, jossa kuulin kaupungista Perth. Se oli ABBa-elokuvassa 1977. Matkaa tanne olikin, Melbournesta 4 tuntia ja 2700 km. Kun vastaavan matkan laittaa Euroopan kartalle, paasee jo pitkalle. Paasiaissaari on varmaan syrjaisin asuttu paikka: matkaa lahimpaan asutukseen on parituhatta kilometria. Perth on puolestaan syrjaisin suurkaupunki:matkaa lahimpaan suurkaupunkiin on parituhatta kilometria. Tulin shuttle-bussilla Perthin keskustaan, rautatieasemalle, ja jatkoin junalla Fremantleen, jonne majoitun kahdeksi yoksi. Huomenna on tarkoitus menna katsomaan Rottnest-saari. Asukkaita taalla Fremantlessa on jotain 25000, ja hostelli on lahella rautatieasemaa. Kavin katsomassa jo satamaa kuuden aikaan, kun aurinko laski. Kaupat menivat taalla kiinni jo klo 19. Tahan asti olen uskaltanut jattaa hostelleissa huoneeseeni passin ja muita arvotavaroita, mutta t... read more

Just realised, that if i actually DID do one of these every day, I would do nearly a hundred, thats a lot of reading! but no fear, as of sunday, i have no idea how regular these will be, we shall soon find out! Today I decided to go to Fremantle, or "Freo". Not fremo as i called it by mistake! It is just the other side of the river from Perth City, and i got there on two trains changing at Perth. Got to fremantle at about half 11 and followed a walking tour mapped out in a free leaflet. This first took me around the port area, seeing the Shed 3 Market (no stalls today though), the motor museum and then the maritime museum. The building its in is amazing, really cool architecture. Well yes I turned the big 30 out here, and boy did I party. We had the usual motley crew over to Jays house where we partied. I had to work during the day but at 5pm the beer started to flow. The boys had cleaned and put up 30 bannners all over the house. Jay bought me a DIRTY 30 Tshirt which you can see in the photos. I had a great night shame my english motley crew were not able to celebrate with me but we will make up for this next year.... read more

Went for a look at Fremantle over the weekend. It's right on the coast and where the swan river starts its journey all the way into Perth. Didn't get to see to much as it was pretty Dark and there was a festival on which meant that town was packed so didn't stay all that long. Would definitely like to go back some time for a better look.... read more

11th March 2008 First morning in Perth and the temperature is definitely the highest we have experienced in Australia at a sweltering 36 degrees. It is a dry heat and there is a nice breeze from the Swann River. I thought it was lovely but Bob is finding it hot and looking for shade. We left our luggage in the left luggage at the hotel and went for a ride on the excellent free city bus service to find the tourist information. There we were able to hire a car but had to wait a few hours before picking it up. This gave us time to plan our stay here and have a look around Perth. We had a bit of a wander around the river front area and picked up a few maps and brochures ... read more
