Hospital
The hospital's in Australia are soooo beautiful. Hey all!
Well I wrote and (thought I) saved an entry, and now that I'm here to upload pictures and post, it's no where to be found. 😞
This morning I woke up and did the usual jog followed by a shower and breakfast. I finally tried vegamite this morning. I was told by several people to make toast, put butter on it and just a very small amount of vegamite. So I did. And I have to say that I wasn't a big fan. I feel like it has more of a "dinner flavor". It was too salty for me. It wasn't terrible. I would recommend everyone try it at least once. So... that was my first "first" of the day. Haha.
So, I took my shower and head up to the Uni to meet up with Mark. He said he would drive me down to Fremantle (Freo) to hang out for the day and get outta the house/office. He dropped me off around 930 or 10. I started out by walking down to the ocean. I couldn't really find a beach area. It was a bummer, but it was neat to see so many boats in
one place. I walked along the docks for awhile before I realized I wasn't going to hit a real beach anytime soon. I was a little bit bummed out when I couldn't find a place to relax on the beach...I like to write and sit back and think about life... the big picture and the smaller details. I even brought my notebook!
There were a ton of neat restaurants. There was a Little Creatures Brewery that looked like it would have been a fun place to go on a date. Or even just a fun place to go with a few friends. Maybe in the future. Maybe I'll drag some of the Footy boys out there.
Anyway, I went back into Freo to the shops. They literally had everything you could think to look for. It definitely had a lot of touristy shops. But there were some gems too. I didn't really buy much. But I had fun looking at the shops. I got some ideas for gifts. I like to people watch too. But around 2 I started getting hungry. I passed a lot of shops, but nothing was sounding good. I was tired of wraps (which
Train Station
This is where I catch the train everyday. (Pronounced: Co-burn ;] ) of the two time's I had eaten out, I had ate both times). I didn't feel like sushi. I don't eat fast food.... So I walked back down to the docks so I could at least eat by the water. And I wated to be slightly adventurous... So I ordered a bit of scallop and basil pizza. It was supposed to be a personal pan pizza... but 2-3 people could've easily chowed it. Needless to say I didn't finish it... BUT it was really good. There was a lot of olive oil on it though, but other than that... the scallops were tasty and it had a good flavor. So... food adventure #2 of the day. I also had a Victoria Bitter (beer) with my pizza. It was recommended to me by a man named Roger that I met on the plane. (This was also the same man who let me cry while I had a mini-break down in the airport and invited me to play rumy with his family and checked on me before they caught their flight out... I am very thankful that I met him and his family.) The beer was delicious as well. Success!!
After
The Freeway
This is the highway that I have to cross to get to the train station or to Cockburn Gateway lunch I wrote a little in my journal and then continued on my way. I went back and found the market. It was so neat. Half of it was like a typical American flea market and the other half was all fruit and veg. What's nice about the Aussie fruit and veg markets is that they offer samples of everything. So I tried all the fruits that I have never had or even heard of. My favorites are persimmon's and mangosteen. So so so tasty. I bought two of each. Did I mention that I love Aussie fresh food markets?! I also tried bubble tea, which I have been wanting to since about 4 years ago. That was also delicious. So so good.
So after that I just kept wandering around the city and getting lost in it's crazy set up. The shops aren't set up in blocks, the roads are more windy and splayed out across the area. So I got lost quite a bit.. however I had until 6 to make it back to the meeting point.
Eventually I made it back to the meeting spot and sat across the street at a coffee shop and
Cockburn Gateway
This is a huge shopping center wrote some more in my journal. Rested my feet that spend 6-7 hours walking. Drank some Italian soda. People watched. It was a good day. 😊
Mark picked me up and dropped me off back here at "home". Su was making dinner when I got here. She tried out a new recipe for some peanut chicken satay and it was pretty tasty. She always tries to feed me more than I can eat. It's kind of cute. I like her a lot. We're going to some Aussie garage sales and more markets on Sunday morning I think. It will be a good time.
Yesterday I met up with Murdoch's Footy team. They just started a club team and I am going to be working with them. I met them and they were all super nice. Very welcoming and excited to have an athletic trainer around. "You came all the way from the US for us?!" Haha. Not exactly. But they have a game on Sunday so they've invited me to travel with them. That'll be fun. Keep me occupied and I can start making some friends who aren't staff members, haha. More so my age.
I
also have gotten hooked up with one of Su's friends who has a friend in the AFL. I was told that he is going to get me tickets to the game, a tour of the "athletic training" room and to meet their Physio. That's super exciting. Especially because I guess Mark has been wanting to get that connection between the Uni and the AFL. So, that's really neat that I am getting to be involved in it.
Well, I think that's enough.
Thinking of you all.
Cheers,
Megan
