We arrived into Victoria slightly ahead of schedule. In true Mau and Donal style, we forewent the opportunity to have a lazy day and decided instead to squeeze in a visit to the Grampians National Park. What's another 360km at this stage! The Grampians turned out to be one of the most beautiful places we have visited with lots of hiking opportunities and breathtaking panoramic views! Sunset from Mount William (the highest peak at 1,167m) was a definite highlight, helped by the fact that we got to share the evening with just one other couple (and a bottle of red). Note: Donal was the designated driver so no prizes for guessing who enjoyed sunset more!! Our second highlight was an early morning hike up Mount Abrupt the next day as it provided the best views of ... read more

We headed back into the city today. We walked to the downtown area and since I had forgotten to eat breakfast I grabbed a samosa at a convenience store, delicious! As we were walking towards to the main station, we saw some intriguing looking alleyways. So, we took a detour to explore them. Hoiser Lane is a small street filled with graffiti art. I loved looking around all the little alleys that were connected admiring the different artworks, even the bins are covered with graffiti. It was pretty busy with other tourists and we saw some on a walking tour. I wish that if we'd had more time in Melbourne that we could have done a walking our of the city. I definitely need to get back to this city to explore more. We took the ... read more

Well, when did this holiday actually start? The line between being on holidays and not being on holidays has blurred for me since I stopped working!! However, the worker in the family finished up at the office on Friday so I reckon that's about when we started our vacation. In which case we spent the first morning of our latest travel adventure finishing off washing and cleaning the house so it would be neat and tidy for the house sitters. We also managed to fit in a walk with Gidget and Finbar before Kerry arrived to have a quick lunch with us before driving us all back to her place. At Kerry's I re-packed my bag after finally admitting that the only way my hiking boots would be going to South America was on my feet! ... read more

This first Blog is to record a diary of our travels. I wish I'd started it on out first trip together in 2012 to England, Paris, Rome, Venice, Prague and Amsterdam but maybe I'll write about it later on. In 2013, we had to cancel our 5 week trip to the U.S, 8 weeks before we left as Bens US visa didn't come through in time. So disappointing at the time but it was a big lesson for us that 'Things Happen For A Reason'. We ended up going to Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand instead. This allowed us to save all the money for the US for the following year and also allowed us to visit some amazing places that we may not have ventured to otherwise. I will write about this trip at ... read more

Morning again everyone, well yesterday being Sunday turned out to be a glorious day, Dorothy was all ready for the weather and put thermals on, good idea if you ask me, I would have done the same if I had some !! However the day was gorgeous, no need for them, blue sky, blue sea and SUN SUN SUN, soooooooo lovely. We all popped down to South Melbourne market, just love that place, Stu and Mike went off and did their thing, not sure what, but they weren't bothering us !! we wandered round taking it all in, just great. We all had a coffee and then made our way back to the house, Sue showing Mike and Dorothy where her and Brian are going to move to at the end of the week, nice apartment ... read more

When I woke up this morning it was raining :( that meant I had no idea what to do today. I was chatting to some girls at breakfast about what to do and they said they were going to a free museum so I thought I might as well join them. I agreed to meet them at 1pm so I walked round St Kilda for a bit to see what is here. When I got back to the hostel Kennedy was sat downstairs so I got talking to her and her friends and I decided I'd rather spend my afternoon with them so I told the other girls I wasn't coming- the best thing about travelling by myself is I can do what I want and don't have to waste time doings things I don't want ... read more

Lana (my roommate) and I went to the Rememberance Shrine this morning which was so much better than I was expecting. There was a museum all about Australia's contribution to all the wars from WWI until now and a gallery of art and poems by people who were involved in any of the wars in any way which was really sad. We went to the top of the shrine where there's a balcony and you can see the Melbourne skyline which was cool. We walked over to the Botanical Gardens then which was so pretty and as the sun was out was such a nice place to walk around. After that we went into the City to have a look around. We stopped for lunch at a sushi bar which was so cheap and so good! ... read more

3 million flies, 40 degrees, roaming cows and the smell of horses… welcome to the countryside of Australia. A new side of Australia that I haven’t seen before. We have been to long white beaches, green mountains and big busting cities. This was new and something different but I liked it. Mick dropped me off 4 days ago at the Southern Cross in Melbourne. After many kisses and hugs and with plenty of snacks and fruit I got on the train with a nervous but exciting feeling in my stomach. After travelling together and sharing moments, problems and solutions with my other half I suddenly felt very lonely. The train moved in a slow pace and outside the window fields, lonely houses and a dry landscape passed by. After 1 hour or so the train stopped ... read more
