Dear Grace and Mag, The first thing I will say as I'm sure you know is that I still really miss him... so much. We talk and skype all the time but I would just love to see him. Anyway, when I left Cairns I drove down to Sydney (really long way, would normally be a 3 hour flight) with Michelle. She's someone from work who happened to be leaving the same day as me so as I hate flying it was a good way to avoid it...plus it would be more fun. And it was a lot of fun. We stopped in Ayr for a night to see Michelle's old farming buddies and we stopped in Noosa and Brisbane to see my friend Polly who I stayed with the first time round in Brisey. Then ... read more

Happy New Year everyone and g'day from Melbourne! I arrived in Melbourne on 10th December and will be here until March time. Spending most of my time relaxing and exercising and,as nice as it sounds, I have started to miss teaching at school. In Asia, it was so cheap it was so easy for me and Stu to do so much that I wouldn't really miss being at work, but Australia is so expensive it is difficult to do things often when I don't earn an Australian wage. I went for an interview last week so hopefully I get the job. That way I'll have a few more pennies to spend! After my first week here, I went to Adelaide to visit my Aunty Steph and my cousins whom I have never met which was lovely. ... read more

So we decide to take a tram to St Kilda's as it is described in Lonely Planet as a most famous seaside suburb and has Melbourne's most hottest properties. All I can say is that going to a beach which is so full of people that you have to make a detour to get to the water is a bit much. Also sardines in a tin came to mind on the sand - do not think beach holidays are for me unless I can find another beach like we found in Vietnam called Jungle Beach where we were the only ones on the beach - think that is the life for me - I must be getting to be a recluse, ha ha To be fair we had a brilliant meal in one of the restaurants ... read more

I have left it a long time to write here again! Life is slower here in oz, and I have a routine so it's not as exciting to report back all the time, but saying that I should have kept up to date a wee bit more! I have been living in Melbourne since I left the farm about 2 months ago. I never went back cos he didn't have enough hours for me so I moved in with my friends in Melbourne. We lived in a pretty lush 2 bedroom apartment, 4th floor with a Seaview. It was really nice but very cramped since there was a total of 8 of us that lived there plus friends staying over at times! It became very cosy that's for sure, but I made a bunch of new ... read more

Spent a gorgeous day in Melbourne Botanic Gardens, sun was out and it was quite warm, not 30+ degrees but like a warm summer day at home. Had lunch in a restaurant in the gardens whilst being seranaded by a man playing a harp, very tranquil. Walked back to the place I am staying at it was longer than I though but ok. Yesterday went to see some Aboriginal art in one of the galleries in Melbourne, one of them was done by a group of Putyani women and the colours were just amazing. Vibrant oranges, peaches, reds, yellow and the palest lilac colour. I kept going back to look at it, it felt almost alive. They use a series of dots and small strokes that looks almost like weaving and the colours are all made from natural rocks ... read more
