St. Jerome's in a long alley way behind Myer, 7 Caledonian Lane, is this tiny little bar with a beer garden that is actually based in an alley way with kind of muslin covering about three stories up....not brilliant on a rainy night but a really cool venue. You walk down this tiny little alley way, and when I say alley I mean alley not cool little laneway. It has big garbage dumpsters along the side and the stench is quite overwhelming as you walk down towards St. Jerome’s. However when you get there it is totally worth it, the front has a tiny little indoor seating area but we went outside and sat at the top of the most rickety stairs. The toilets are unisex and not definitely best avoided if possible. The place is ... read more

As my final day to Melbourne came upon me, I had already set plans up for some of the kids from my group to go and hang out with Vanessa and Ashan from the front desk. I figured I had some time to do my laundry finally. It was piling up in my room! They had washer and dryers in the hotel but they were mad expensive, for one load, wash adn dry, it was 7 bucks. But the dryer was so weak that you had to dry twice so it ended up being like 11 dollars per load. Craziness!!! In total, I spent 27 dollars and my laundry wasnt even fully dried. This- was complete crap. When 3:30 rolled around, the front desk crew was able to finally leave. woohoo! I brought Ashan up to ... read more

A Sunday in Melbourne seemed to be a lot like a Sunday in Europe, though there was at least one street to walk where shops were open. No matter, I jumped over to the MASSIVE Melbourne Cricket Ground, capacity of up to 106,000, to watch an AFL (aussie rules football) match. I got in general admit and it gave me a chance to get a couple different vantage points of the game. I got to be up close and watch the guys smack each other in the backs (pushing and tripping is expressly legal on a field of 200 yards in each direction), and I went up to the top to see the strategic vantage point. The game was much faster than the rugby match, and although the stadium felt empty, there were only 30,000 fans ... read more

So I apparently forgot to update you guys on my optional day tour to the Sofitel Melbourne Hotel. Both of my professors put this opportunity out there for us "hotel-ees" I am actually half foody. But I'll let it slide! . We had to get all dressed up, so I finally got use of my dress shoes and pants. However I did not have my black socks with me so white ankle socks it was! I tried not to lift my legs up too high when walking or going up stairs so I could hide them. I did a terrible job of that... So in total there was about 8 of us and we took a tram down Swanson street and turned off onto another street. The Sofitel was hidden by a huge mall and long ... read more

We went to Pellegrinis, 66 Bourke St for some authentic Italian food, it really is an expresso bar like you would find in Italy - just a long bar, that patrons can sit at or the communal wooden table in the kitchen at the back, where you are literally sitting beside the cookers with the pots and pans simmering away on top. Irene’s lasagna was served straight out the oven and my spal bol came out of a pot right in front of us. It really deserves the name home cooked! We were walking back to Melbourne Central when we saw this chalk writing on the pavement advertising a night market down Tattersalls Lane (behind Cookie, where the lane joins Little Bourke and Lonsdale). It turned out to be a cool little market with Melbourne designers ... read more

I know I am extremely behind on updating all of you, but i'm getting there, this stuff costs money ya know! (Now I know what you mean, Eli). So I will just skip over a lot of the boring places we went to and get to some things that are a little more entertaining. A lot of the venues that we are going to are basically teh same thing over and over again, ad it is all just repeatitive and mundane...but I gotta do what I gotta do. One of the more interesting things, in my books, was having class at the Melbourne Victoria University; a higher end school. We were lectured by 3 different professors and they all seemed pretty cool. The most distracting thing was one of the women professors kept using the word ... read more

The Day I found out that we were going to an Aussie Rules Football Game, I was excited to go. True, I don't know the first thing about Footie, but I was still stoked!! We thankfully got to sleep in that day until around 11ish. As usual, I went to breakfast, took a shower, and went to class in the kingfisher room. A few minutes after everyone arrived, one of the management trainees arrived. A nice man by the name of Tim. He is training his way up to being a General Manager. Best of luck to him... He walked in wearing a black and red jersey for a team I never heard of....some team out of Essendon; who apparently are terrible. =o) He walked up in front of the class holding his footie ball and ... read more

We went down to Albert Park to collect Zoey’s little footy jacket today, number 36 Davy. After coming out of Flinder’s Street Station we walked across to Federation Square to check out this impromptu dance that was happening. Some dude in a purple spandex jumpsuit was getting random people to tell a story through dance. So it ended up that two guys were the scrorned lovers, and the girl had to run across the square to this guy that Purple Man just pulled out of the crowd. First he demonstrated by launching himself at your man, the guy literally had to hold him up. Then the girl had to take a running jump at him. His kids were cracking up laughing at the whole scenario. Meanwhile the other two rejected guys had to dance toward each ... read more

Sadly all of us had to wake up at the ungodly hour of 8 or earlier to get ready for class. This is summer! We are supposed to be sleeping in!!! No more of this early morning crap. I jumped in the shower, which is heavenly, if i do say so myself; and marched my way down to the first floor for a buffet breakfast. Eggs, hashbrowns (oooh baby i'm a hash brown kinda guy), and slightly undercooked bacon. They like that here.... I sat down at one of the larger circle tables and ate my breakfast as I listened to my iPod, looking to see if any of the other kids were coming in at all. A few did here and there, but naturally most didn't because it was just way too early. So about ... read more
