Not far from the city is a beautiful beach town called Glenelg. Beach but no waves - sorry surfers! You can drive or maybe the tram from the city is a better option for you. Once you arrive you will notice a long pier, grassy picnic area and the kid in you will see waterslides!!!! Or the carousel or the games room - so much fun!!! Take a stroll around and you will come to an old tram carriage or head into town a little bit and do some light shopping (along the tramway line). There are some nice cafes in this strip too but I found them a little bit expensive. In Summer the kids will love the water play area in what seems to be the mall or square.... read more

So, I hear you asking, how did they do those great wide angle photos? There's the long story and the short story so I had better give you the abridged version... We (that would be Lenny actually) was able to purchase a nice wide angle lens from Toby in Adelaide. For those that want to know the detail...it's a Nikkor AF-S 12-24mm f4 G IF-ED lens So now you see the "stretch" version of the Coaster (and the street), rather than what we might have previously photographed.... read more

Everyone I have met from here makes a point of telling me that one: This has not been typical summer weather-thanks for reminding me and 2: That March is crazy busy every weekend and then it all comes to an end and winter sets in. Well I can surely understand the “busyness” and enjoy every minute of it although arriving to work more tired than I was on Friday is not the best feeling. However, feeling as I am about my current career situation, I need the good times on the weekends and take the weekdays day by day, literally! This is not a blog about whining rather its more about wine drinking so will move on from that. Well it all begins at the end of February with the return of Teresa’s good friend Corri. ... read more

After a three hour flight from Auckland to Adelaide on Monday morning, we arrived to 28 degrees of sunshine! After a short drive we arrived on North Terrace in the centre of the city which was to be our base for the next 8 nights, and proved to be an ideal location; it was a short walk to the railway station and tram stop, the parliament buildings, the Oval Cricket Ground and the River Torrens. It was a time to regroup, do some washing and plan the next stages of our trip. I ventured out into the town centre to find food and was astounded by the number of shops. We had also arrived during the Adelaide Fringe Festival and there was a variety of performers giving short performances in the city centre each day. I ... read more

Well, gang, I am way behind. Guide was right about connectivity. I am actually in Alice Springs sitting by the pool the night before we head to Uluru. But must catch you up. So do not be concerned about these. Will finally get caught up I hope. In the meantime I am writing it all down in my journal. The airport at Adelaide is amazing. There is this big, open tiled space out in front, and pickups are about half a block away, but it sure eases safety concerns. Alternating really large blue, white and gray tiles stretch from the baggage claim door to the street. Got into a 21 passenger coach and headed off to Cleland Wildlife Park. Spent about 40 minutes driving along windy roads up into the hills.lots of animals to see close ... read more

We knew we had a long journey to reach the Barossa valley so Lyn took a turn at the wheel covering the first couple of hours to Meningie. Approaching Adelaide was easy as the roads developed into dual carriageway although the speed limit remained at 110 km/hr. The journey turned nore difficult when we turned off from the Barossa Valley. We seemed to cross so many other roads as we travelled around the outskirts of the city. However the trip was worth while when we found, our hotel. A great room with balcony overlooking fields of grapevines. Each evening before dinner a local winery gives a tasting session in the hotel. Tonight it was the turn of Blue Rock, a small concern that does not export. I was fascinated by their Black Velvet Shiraz that includes ... read more

Hi People, We had another nice lie in, and again the wonderful Kaye had breakfast laid out for us. We were leaving Kaye and Rodger today; our time there had been amazing. Before we left, Rodger wanted to show us Glenelg, a town which was close by. We drove about 30 minutes there passing through a few other towns all named after English cities. Once we got there we found it was an amazing place. This was where the first settlers of Adelaide landed before moving in towards Adelaide. It is like a retirement area, however has everything you could want there (well for us two old souls), bric a brac shops, restaurants, bars and much more. We walked along the beach with Rodger, saw the pier and came to a small harbor where we had ... read more
