It's only 9 days to go until we leave. Nana has already left and as I write is in Singapore, or the airport or somewhere around there. She is off to Scotland and we will meet up with her in Amsterdam later in our trip, but for now, Dad and I have to get organised and have everything ready for our leg in Paris and London. Yesterday, we bought a brand new Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 camera which we are told is the top of the range for point and shoot cameras. We still haven't got anywhere near preperation such as packing, I have only just set up this travel blog today, and there is still alot of stuff to do before we leave. We have been told that the weather is warmer in Europe, but we ... read more

Just finished 2 weeks at Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary. Had my own eco cabin in the forest with en-suite and electric blanket! Not much to do at night in an eco cabin in the middle of nowhere. The electric fence is designed to keep foxes out but it felt like i was on the wrong side of the fence after a while! Got to do loads of cool stuff. Feed kangaroos, plant gum tree's in the rainforest and help out with the animal shows. Never held a 2.5 metre Python before or had a blue tongued lizard pee on me, but i have now! Ive also tried a few local dishes here in Oz, kangaroo steak (bit like reindeer) and crocodile burgers (chewy). Was fed very well by Chef Brian at Warrawong and managed to work it ... read more

Thursday 15-4-10 Well on the road again , it was sad to part with our friends but will catch up soon. A nice sunny day to travel & the wind is not too bad. It was cold last night & this morning. We travelled the long way to Paul & Kenny’s , through Adelaide & then onto the Pacific Highway & up this huge mountain, back to first gear on one hill. We eventually got into the Adelaide Hills which is very pretty scenery .We arrived at Forreston & found Paul & Kenny’s 48 acre property in the hills. We set up in luxury & were offered the guest house to stay in for the week. We declined, but we used the bathroom. The guest house had everything you could possibly need & is decorated in ... read more

So, another day, another region! The Adelaide Hills region takes in scenic drives, several reservoirs and historic towns. We meandered along, first of all coming to Lobethal, which had the Old Woollen Mill - an old complex that has been converted into a variety of enterprises, such as microbreweries, craft shops, etc - it also houses the local farmers market (all of which seem to be at weekends only) (drat!) and the National Costume Museum. We went to the Museum, which should have been open, but was closed with a sign ‘ring bell’ ... unfortunately there was no bell. We gave up. We’re finding this a lot! Onwards, via a lovely little town called Woodside which had a lovely little quilting shop, the Patchwork Apple, and an equally lovely bakery which John visited whilst I looked ... read more

Day 260 - Eden Valley to Happy Valley We didn’t think it could get much hotter, we were wrong! We woke to a stinker this morning and wondered if we’d made the right decision to get on the road today. My primary school chum Donna whom we met up with at her home near Sydney featured in our blog, is visiting her Mum & Dad in Adelaide for a few days so we’re intending to swing by and perhaps scoot out to Victor Harbour with its horse drawn trams on a bit of a day trip. However now we’re wondering if the weather will be too overpowering but we’re keen to explore so decide to head off and take the chance. Sadly nobody else was up and about by the time we were ready to leave ... read more

6th December - 9th December 2009 Adelaide Hills - Mt Barker, Strawberry Farm, Hahndorf, Chocolate shops and wineries!!! What I ask is better than strawberries, chocolate, wine, german pastries and pretzels, topped off with a wheat German beer? The answer: Nothing! This is heaven for food lovers, no it's just heaven for everyone! The produce in the Adelaide Hills is expectational and it really is a feast for the senses! After a few days resting down at Port Elliot and Goolwa, on the Fleurieu Peninsula, we started to make our way up into the Hills via Langhorne Creek, one of Australia's oldest wine regions. The town of Wellington is situated at the mouth of the Murray where it opens out into Lake Alexandrina, the largest freshwater lake in Australia. This is the end of the Murray ... read more

14th May - 4th June Our first port of call in Oz was to stay with some friends of ours, Dick and Kelly, at their house in the Adelaide Hills. It was fantastic to see them after 4 years since they emigrated from the UK. We had a brilliant time with them and their little boy, Adam. Sorry to be leaving here. Dick and Kelly showed us around Adelaide and the Fleurieu Peninsula - we visited Cleland Wildlife Park, where we fed the kangeroos and wallerbies (or 'wobblies' as Adam called them); two fantastic beaches, Maslin and Willunga; and dragged poor Dick and Kelly around Adelaide looking for a car for us to buy. Rob and I also explored The Coorong, a great birdwatching area, where we saw wild emus; and Waterfall Gully which was a ... read more
