Easter Sunday today...sitting in the lounge with my family...and have only 4 more sleeps until I head off to the USA & Canada for a 6 week holiday....WhoooHoooo (and even better...only 1 more day at work). So ...coming ready or not. I am going to San Francisco (don't know why but always have trouble spelling Francisco...lol), New York, 14 day tour of East USA & Canada, then off to Banff for a few days, Rocky Mountaineer train trip and then a few days in Vancouver before heading home. Should keep me busy I reckon. Anyway, am excited and nervous. Travelling solo for 6 weeks! OMG...am almost feeling homesick already...lol...hence am taking the laptop so can keep in touch via blogging, facebook and Skype. Pathetic, I know... My hope is to use this blog reasonably regularly - ... read more

Allez on réserve, ... read more

Yes there really is a place called Humbug Scrub! Tracy's friend Karen and her husband Rob have a farm there. On Sunday, Tracy and I went for dinner there and made a couple of tourist stops along the way. First we visited the Whispering Wall at the Barossa Resevoir. The unique acoustics of the stone structure of the dam allow you to here someone whisper all the way across the 144 meters to the other side. It really works too, even though neither Tracy nor I know how to whisper! Our "silly" kicked in while taking photos on top. Next we went to Williamstown to try the best vanilla slice in Australia at the Corner Bakery Shop. The girl behind the counter told us they were all sold out, but Tracy worked her magic by telling ... read more

Tracy and I played golf again on Monday at Belair Park Country Club. Just 20 minutes out of the city of Adelaide and into the hills, this course sits alongside a national park. It is a very peaceful setting full of wildlife. We were hoping to see koalas and kangaroos, but we needed to be there either early morning or late evening. It was still a very nice day except for my game being way off. Tracy's drives were long and straight...way to go Tracy! We stoped for groceries on the way home. Tracy's niece, Danielle brought us a suprise for dinner...Australian yabbies, also known in Lousiana as crawfish! What a treat...thanks Danielle!... read more

The moment you've all been waiting for...me, kangaroos, and koalas! Tracy drove us into the Adelaide Hills to Gorge Wildlife Reserve where we petted lots of "roos." I was a bit nervous at first, but these were small and very tame ones. We also saw birds, bats, wallabies and KOALAS! Yes, I got to cuddle one just like Kate, but without the emotional breakdown. After that we drove to Mount Lofty, the highest peak in the Adelaide Hills. Paul's fancy GPS was getting annoying by telling Tracy to make U turns when she thought she knew where to go. We wound up taking the very scenic route through narrow curving mountain roads where we saw apple, plum, and cherry orchards, not to mention beautiful vinyards and country houses surrounded by rose gardens. We had meat pies ... read more

Adelaide, Days 11 and 12 Sunday, November 6, 2011 - Day 11 Another travel day and our flight leaves at 7:05 AM so we have to be up and ready to go by 5 AM. Our shuttle was there right at 5:00 am and we headed for the airport. One thing we noticed is the lesser degree of security. We are flying domestic at this point and they do not even check our IDs when we check in our luggage. This happened in both Cairns and Adelaide. We still have to go through security but we do not have to take off our shoes or show our tickets. People without tickets can wait at the gate with the passengers as long as they go through security along with all the rest of the passengers. We cannot ... read more

Today Faye and Neil went to catch up with some friends so Trish and I headed to the coast. We headed off down the freeway towards Adelaide and took the Crafters exit, going via Blackwood, Eden Hills to Brighton on the coast. The beach here stretches from Brighton right up to Semaphore , taking in Glenelg, West Beach, Henley Beach up to Largs Bay. What an amazing beach to have only minutes from the centre of Adelaide. The weather was warm and sunny so we had a few stops for walks on the beach as we travelled along the coast before stopping at Henley Beach for lunch at Zootz. We then travelled to the top of the LeFevre Penninsular passing and stopping at Largs Bay where we saw Largs Hotel, a three storey sandstone building that ... read more

Neil and I did 'Boys stuff' in the morning. We finished putting together my water pump which will supply our shower and general wash up water tanks with water when we need to refill these tanks from rivers, dams, tanks etc. What a brilliant gadget if I do say so, based on a 12V spray pump it will deliver 6Ltrs a minute, details available, (at a small fee payable into my B/acct) , when requested..just ask me! We also attacked Neil's van's sink outlet, the TV aerial bracket on both vans plus a few other jobs and importantly found a brilliant shop called "The 12V Shop". anybody with a camper or van should know about this place...just google them, brilliant! The Girls went shopping in Mt Barker village where they found some lovely shops and of ... read more

The Adelaide Hills are very famous for their wine in Australia however this was the first stop of our Australia tour now that we have finished working. We are off for 3 weeks of camping fun. My extensive research revealed that The Gorge Wildlife park allows Koala holding and is very close to Adelaide. The only thing I had to do to convince Matthew was to find a caravan park. I did. It was called Cudlee Creek. For me it was called Cuddly Creek.... read more
