I was up this morning (after only an hours and a half's sleep - seemed sensible at the time to go to bed at 1am - who knows why!) AT 2:30 am, got myself together and said my last goodbye's to my suragate family adn headed off to the airport. I pretty much sailed throuhg, although had to queue forever to pay to leave the country (but I don't want to go, why should I pay for the privelage?!! Oh well!). As we were boarding the plane though I saw the most amazing sunrise ever, was a pretty nice goodbye from such a pretty country. I arrived in Brisbane at 7am (local time) and had to wait in the airport until 11:30am for my bus up to Herevy Bay where I was meeting Amy before we ... read more

I absolutely loved the town of 1770! I had planned to stay 2 nights and ended up staying 4! The hostel, COOL BANANAS, was so great - it was clean, cozy, and the ppl there (staff and fellow travelers) were so fantastic. There were so many great activities at my disposal in addition to beautiful beaches and lots of time for R&R. There were lots of walking trails close by the hostel... I did one to a beautiful lookout, it was spectacular. Along that same path through the woods one day I came across a huge lizard... he was hissing at us, kinda creepy! I did the "Scooter-roos" adventure wherein a huge group of us all got to drive our own chopper motorcycle through 1770 - these bikes were soooo nice, I want one! My chopper ... read more

Hiya guys - well loads to tell once again!! From Noosa we traveled to Rainbow beach for a night. As soon as we got here we went out for a bush walk with the hostel owner. We had bush tucker (eating the nectar from the trees (just like honey), eating some flowers (sorta tasted like lettuce). Walked through the bush until we reached the base of the sand dune (sand blow), and man was it a trek up it, it didnt feel like u were moving up the dune as your feet kept sinking, it was worth it though for the view it was gorgeous!! He then told us a bit of history and geology of the place and frasier - very interesting - he was a cool tour guide!! Then he showed us 7 different ... read more

Hey folks!!

Hey!! Hope ya all ok!! Hmmm, what have I been up to??!!! Well, had one more night on Airlee Beach! Decided to stay in Beaches hostel this time as the last one we had stayed in on Airlee was pants! This one wasn't much better...sat on the phone to Gma and a mouse runs past my foot (sorry Gma, that was the shriek at the end of the call!). Anyway, was gonna have one of our 'çhilled nights' but thought may as well go out for a glass of wine to say goodbye to Airlee...was best place we'd been to so far! Had nice feel to it!!! We were getting picked up by the Spas Experience bus at 7am so aimed to be tucked up in our bunks by 12am! Of course that never happened....ended up ... read more

Long way to Rockie We caught the Greyhound to Rockhampton, our overnight stop on route to Hervey Bay. The weather seemed a little more gloomly and our journey took us through rainstorms and sunny spells. We arrived at Rockie after dark and got picked up by the YHA, where we were spending the night. The wasn't a lot to do in this cattle country town so we walked to the nearby KFC which seemed full of diners with no shoes on. Barefeet must be an Australian thing! We had another early start the following day to get the 6am bus to Hervey Bay. Hervey Bay We arrived on the Greyhound bus at Hervey Bay, where we were picked up by the Koala courtesy bus driven by a classic Australian bloke. He was a real character, his ... read more

Heavenly Harvey Bay After our ordeal at Bundaberg we booked into a gorgeous YHA resort in Harvey Bay near the marina. It was lovely; bar, pool, spa, tennis court (not that we played!) great comfy sofas where they host games and quiz nights. The people that worked there were just great fun and we always met friendly people. We booked in for 2 nights and ended up staying 10! Bike ride We decided to be geeks for the day and rent out push bikes. We packed lots of water, fastened our helmets, and waited whilst Sharlene adjusted her seat, ha! and then we were off. We cycled all the way up the beach front along the Esplanade, into the bush and then back to the marina. Our bums were a little worse for wear the ... read more

It's definitely been a while and I've been a busy bee. Not sure when last I wrote but think it was from Airlie Beach. So here goes - I finally dragged my beach bum behind away from Airlie on Wednesday and took a bus to Prosperpine where I got a flight to Brisbane. I checked into a hostel near the train station for convenience more than anything and in my room was the single most annoying Canadian I've ever met in my life - needless to say the mood was the greatest. This was exemplified by the fact that I'd been out the previous night with the guys from Port Douglas. So I was in serious self pitying mood. Niamh and Mark were arriving from Ireland on Wednesday night and we'd planned to meet up at ... read more

Two in one day, I'm getting good at this now!! I'm actually in Byron Bay killing time waiting for the night bus, it's been really nice here a place I'd love to stay longer in, it's so chilled and relaxed, we took a stroll up the lighthouse and stood at the most Easternly point of Australia which is cool!! So a little more about Fraser island, we woke at about six to hear the boys suggesting they wake us up for the sunrise, luckily they decided to let us sleep (remember my comment about Anna and Charlotte being comatose?!) and went to the beach and watched it themselves, apparently we didn't miss much so I'm happy we got the extra hours sleep! We had some brekkie, packed up the truck and headed on our way! We ... read more
