Well I have lots to up date you all with, Il start with Brisbane. After arriving in Brisbane fairly late one evening a couple of us just went for a few drinks and then off to bed. The first day in Brisbane I spent on the South Bank which is pretty much where eveything is anyway. After taking a nice walk through the Botanical Gardens I had breakfast and then sat by Brisbane Lagoon for the morning. Unfortunatly the lagoon wasn't fully open and most of it was being refurbished but it was still nice just to relax there for a few hours. As it was a weekend it was fairly busy there with children so i didnt spend to long there as my nice relaxing was often interupted by young children feeling the need to ... read more

Tues 30th Oct: We stopped at Maryborough on way, finding a physio to buy some theraband from and a chemist to get a calf support. Once stuck back together, down to Hervey Bay to sort out our Fraser trip. We were originally going to do 3day/2night but couldn't do that till Sunday so went for 2day/1night leaving on Thurs. Now booked we booked into YHA, a lovely scenic place and chilled out for the evening. Weds 31st Oct: Woke at 0530 so went for an early morning swim. There was an Olympic size swimming pool not far up the road so a only a short drive. 2000m later and feeling much more refreshed then spent the rest of the morning writing up my travel log. Grabbed a quick roll for luch then drove the short distance ... read more

Rained lots overnight and then was still wet when we were picked up at 0730 to go to Fraser Island for the day. For those who do not know already the island is the largest sand island in the world. It is an amazing place that has no regular roads but lots of tracks suitable for 4-wheel drive vehicles including buses. The long beaches on the eastern side are locally known as the main highway. We were dropped off again at 1730 so was a long day out. The rain and dull day were not helpful for the photos but despite the weather we really enjoyed the day.... read more

Rather overcast day which turned into quite heavy rain by the late afternoon. Spent a few hours looking at different parts of the bay. Walked along a pier and saw lots of fish but the rain put us off getting our rods out. Were planning on going to Fraser island tomorrow but more rain is predicted so will wait for that to clear.... read more

About 135 Km today to Hervey Bay with a stop in Childers to wander along the main street looking at many old buildings. The town is classified by the National Trust. We had thought that Hervey Bay was a little village like Airlie Beach but it is in fact a large town with a population of about 53,000.... read more

We got up super early (yet again...am resigned to the fact that I'm just not going to get lie-ins anymore!) and made our way to the Kookaburra Hostel where we were booked to head off on our grand adventure! The hostel was pretty mad when we arrived, we had to check in and drop off our bags with loads of other people trying to do the same before we could go and wait for our lift down to where we were meeting to 4x4, on top of this 2 of the girls in our group had their bags stolen from their rooms as they were getting ready fto leave! Luckily the thief was apprehended by guys and the bags received with nothing missing. When we arrived at the garage, we had to go through loads of ... read more

After the disappointment of Airlie beach we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived in Hervey Bay. The long stretch of beach was idyllic with a few people scattered about. We strolled along the beach then came back via the little shore front shops, dipping in and out to look at souvenirs. We had booked a day at Fraser Island for our first day and a day at sea whale watching for the next day. We hopped on the ferry at 8.30 to cross the Sandy Strait to Fraser which is a gigantic sand bar measuring 120km by 15km. As we approached it looked just too lush and green to be the world’s largest sand island! We climbed into our 4WD coach for a days island tour, we had tried to get on a smaller 4WD trip ... read more
