Geo: -27.4676, 153.028We were locked into destination "home". But we did need a little top up for fuel in Cairns. And this was a full "Welcome to Australia you need to go through customs" stop over. It was a relief to be let back into the country and nobody thought Mac was Chinese AND he had to curb the whole photo bombing thing! It was truly a quick turn around. Just time for a western toilet stop and a cup of coffee.....a coffee taste we recognised.Back on board: a flight path that followed the coastline, a smooth landing and into the welcoming arms of Anthony. Well almost! First a little bit of duty free top up in the alcohol department followed by being ignored by the sniffer dogs and a quick usher through Customs without incident. ... read more

After not the biggest night we woke up feeling reasonably good, so we packed our stuff and jumped on the bus to Brisbane. As I packed I realised I had left my Bose Headphones and iPod on the previous bus which I was fuming with myself about! I rang the bus office, they hadn't been handed in and even admitted gear like that would more than likely have been stolen. Raging, so much for karma after I had given back an iPhone 5 that I had found just a week before... It was quite a shirt bus ride to Brisbane so we arrived in the afternoon and took the short walk to our hostel right in the city centre. We dropped out bags off and went for a walk around the city centre, crossed the bridge ... read more

A week until I leave and so much to do!!! There's grocery orders to schedule for Dan and the kids, free dress days and the school trivia night to mark on the calendar, netball / rugby / dancing / guitar / tutoring to also highlight on the calendar and schedule with family and friends (so lovely of them to offer to help with the running around too), and then there's the dreaded packing! Dropped a large container of frozen chicken stock on my middle left toe a few days ago (really Kylie, really) and although very sore and bruised, think it will be ok. Not what I need this close to the trip though. Just checked the weather and looking to be colder than originally expected, oh well, at least there is red wine to warm ... read more

North Stradbroke Island is a short ferry crossing from the outer suburbs of Brisbane. It is a wonderful island with great sea views, beaches, walks and there are many birds, animals and marine life to watch out for. We travelled and stayed mid week so it was very peaceful. The sea crossing was flat calm and from the ferry terminal it was a short drive to our lodgings at Lookout Point. We enjoyed the superb gorge walk at Loookout Point with magnificent ocean and beach views. I played golf the next day and was watched by a large kangaroo family, no doubt unimpressed by my poor golfing skills. Afterwards we visited the beautiful nearby Brown Lake and then drove to Amity. We watched a friendly Koala bear and then saw some dolphins swimming alongside the pier. ... read more

We didn't really want to leave Yamba all of us really enjoyed it and I dont think 2 nights was enough, but still, we were looking forward to the next few places. Our next stop was Broadbeach! We got to stop at Byron Bay along the way too somewhere we really wanted to see as so many people had told us about it. We didn't really stay long though Brad was suffering from a bit of sunburn and it was a really really hot day so I'd definitely like to go back one day for a visit. Ŵe headed on ahead of the others to Broadbeach and found the apartment. Another gorgeous one with a view to the sea, we have been so lucky staying in some lovely places. We weren't there long before the others ... read more

Everyone should have a bucket list. A list of things you swear to do before you die. #2 on my bucket list is hugging a Koala. To do this I would have to head to Queensland state in Australia. Most other states in Australia allow you to see Koalas and get close but not touch them. So I did some research and located Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary near Brisbane. They allow you to hug them but keep strict limits on how long the Koalas do this in a day. So the key is to get there early so you don't miss your opportunity. The hostel has free breakfast so I helped myself to some toast and jam. I was planning on taking a bus to the sanctuary and the train to the Gold Coast. After some ... read more

First thing this morning would be a catchup with another Topdeck buddy Sam. I remember her from the tour because she was one of 2 muslims on the tour and on top of that they were both vegetarians. It did cause them some issues on the tour because a few of the vegetarian dishes had wine in them. We arranged beforehand to meet at Central station for breakfast. Central station is very large so it took a while to find each other. At one point I was on one floor and she was directly below me on a different floor LOL. So once we found each other and had the customary hug greeting we settled down to some baked goods from a Chinese bakery in the station. I told Sam about my travels so far and ... read more

Geo: -27.4676, 153.028A hectic week but the hour had finally arrived ... Friday evening at last and we were at Terminal 1, Gate 79 waiting for our flight.A great day at work to finish the week and celebrate 60 with a little touch of The Great Wall with my very own birthday cake extravaganza created by Julie-Anne. A pizza lunch with the staff, a few last minute jobs and at 4.10 pm with lights flashing - I was "outa there"..... and it may be hard to believe, but I was "outa there....with narry a backwards glance".Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Mac was slaving away doing all things domestic. I roared up the driveway to the echoing sound of the lawn mower roaring in the backyard....cutting it a bit fine I'd say. But in reality we had ... read more

Brisbane After leaving Dino and Lee in Bahrs Scrub we then went to Australia zoo, glass House Mountains and then on to Maroochydore, to get a new awning fitted, after the old one got ripped off in South West Rocks. We stayed here for a few days and really enjoyed the caravan park we had set up in, right on the banks of the river (beauty mate). At this point ben is still in Melbourne spending time with family, as there were a few family celebrations he couldn’t miss out on. Maroochydore is an urban centre on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. At the 2011 Australian Census the urban area recorded a population of 47,645.... read more
