Asia » Singapore June 19th 2014

We landed in Singapore at 4pm and by this point I was shattered from the lack of sleep and my hangover was kicking in. The airport was quite empty but it was huge, looked new and was really nice. It took a little bit of time to get through immigration but we got our bags, went to the taxi rank and jumped straight in a taxi to our hostel without any problems. The driver just wanted to talk to us but luckily for me Freeman was in the front so I sat behind the driver and avoided the conversation because I was so tired. It turned out that the taxi driver used to be in the army and was based in Lincoln near where we live in England for a few years, crazy. We got to ... read more

We had to get up really early at 6am the next morning for our bus to Cairns. A quick look out the window showed us that it was chucking it down outside, not ideal when we had a 15 minute walk to the bus station. I didn't feel too bad as I hadn't drank loads the night before but Freeman was rotten as he had stayed out later than me until 4am. We packed, went to hand our keys in at reception to get our $20 deposits back but reception was closed so I posted my room key and had to miss out on my $20, wounded! Luckily it just stopped raining as we left the hostel so the walk to the bus wasn't too bad. We saw Penny and Charlotte at the bus station and ... read more

Waking up in a random house, in the middle of no where, hungover, was not what I wanted to be doing on the morning of a boat tour but hey ho, here I was. One of the lads put some music on again and then offered us a lift back into town, sorted! We had to drive for about 10 minutes down a dirt track before we even reached a road which showed we were pretty far out, although when I asked the lad he did admit that it meant they can have the best house parties with no interruptions from neighbours or Police. I got dropped off at the hostel and it was a mad rush for me to quickly pack my bag, check out and head down to the harbour. We were running a ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Airlie Beach May 10th 2014

Hungover in the morning after a big night we had to get up, pack, eat and check out once again. Millie, Lucy, Andrew, Becky, Phillip and a few others came to the bus stop to see us off. I watched Becky's video of me rapping on stage the night before and it wasn't too bad luckily. The bus arrived in the afternoon and it was one of the toughest goodbyes to date, I was absolutely gutted to be leaving my Fraser Island family! The journey was a long overnight one, around 15 hours so I spent the afternoon/evening on the bus writing blogs on my phone before taking some valium to try and get some sleep. We arrived at Airlie Beach around 6 or 7am. Our hostel didn't have a transfer for us so we had ... read more

In the morning we were up early to pack all of our stuff, nip to the supermarket for some last minute supplies and we were then put into 4 separate groups as there were 4 cars. Me and Freeman were in group 1, which was the lead driver and guide Geoff's car which unfortunately meant we couldn't drive. However, Geoff assured us that we would get our turn to drive one of the other cars. I sat in the front to be DJ and I had a good chat with Geoff, he was a really cool guy, seemed very laid back with not too many rules and everybody at the hostel had told us he was the best guide, winning! After a quick safety briefing where Geoff told us to ignore everything from the safety video ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Rainbow Beach May 7th 2014

After our 7 hour bus journey we arrived at Rainbow beach around 3pm. It was red hot but luckily we got dropped off right outside our hostel, Frasers on Rainbow. It took a while to check in but when we did we met two girls from Essex in our room, Lucy and Millie, who both seemed pretty cool. We had a chat and then went by the pool, the girls were already really brown and it wasn't hard to see why because as me and Freeman dived in the pool they just lay next to it sunbathing, typical girls! In the afternoon we all had to gather in the bar to watch a safety briefing on Fraser Island for our tour the next day which was the most ridiculous and boring video ever, I struggled to ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Noosa May 2nd 2014

Luckily when we arrived in Noosa we had a mini bus transfer already waiting for us to take us to our hostel. We got chatting to an English guy called Christian who was sound and it was just a short 10 minute drive to the hostel, which on first viewing looked decent but it was small and we soon realised that everyone had their own little clicks which is a massive no no when you are travelling. Even when i said hello as i walked past one group i barely got a response, great start... We had a 4 bed room with an apartment style shared kitchen with one other room. There was a French couple sharing a room with us that looked like they had been there a while and they were very touchy feely ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Brisbane April 30th 2014

After not the biggest night we woke up feeling reasonably good, so we packed our stuff and jumped on the bus to Brisbane. As I packed I realised I had left my Bose Headphones and iPod on the previous bus which I was fuming with myself about! I rang the bus office, they hadn't been handed in and even admitted gear like that would more than likely have been stolen. Raging, so much for karma after I had given back an iPhone 5 that I had found just a week before... It was quite a shirt bus ride to Brisbane so we arrived in the afternoon and took the short walk to our hostel right in the city centre. We dropped out bags off and went for a walk around the city centre, crossed the bridge ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Byron Bay April 29th 2014

The bus arrived in Byron Bay early in the morning so we walked the 10 minutes to our hostel, Backpackers Inn. The hostel appealed to me straight away, it had a large social area, hammocks, volley ball net, swimming pool and you were actually allowed to drink your own alcohol (a huge rarity in Australia)! There was also a small path at the back of the garden which led straight to the beach in less than a minute and the beach was really nice. We finally checked into our room and met two Essex girls called Laura and Amy who both seemed like they had decent banter which is a massive bonus when you have to share a room with people all the time. We sorted our stuff out and then all jumped in the pool ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney March 27th 2014

After a short hour and a half flight we had landed in Sydney. We got the airport transfer to our hostel (Sydney Backpackers) which was situated just off George St right in the heart of the city centre. The hostel wasn't great but we got bottom bunks and after a quick change of mattress for the best one I could find in the room, I'd made the most of the situation. The room was also very spacious which was a nice change as you didn't have to climb over everyone else's stuff to get to yours. We popped out for a Subway and had a look around one of the shopping malls nearby, but didn't get anything, we are backpackers after all. By the time we got back to the hostel Tayla and Leanne had also ... read more
