Today I woke up at 6:50 this morning ( I had been asleep since 19:45 lastnight!). We had breakfast at 'Butter Bistro' just round the corner from the appartment. I had bacon, scrambled eggs and pancakes and freshly squeezed orange juice. It was lovely. We went straight from there to Mount Coot-tha where we went to the lookout and took some photos of the cityscape and the other views. We went from there to the bottom of the mountain to the Botanical Gardens, where we saw fish, Sacred Ibis and a lizard and lots of cacti, it was quite warm and sunny. We then went to Toowoomba shopping centre and I got my watch strap sorted so now it won't fall off my arm! Sophie went food shopping in Coles whilst Dad and I went into ... read more

I had quite an eventful journey! Whilst leaving London, our plane was struck by lightening. We had to pass through a few more storms on the way to Singapore, which made the journey very turbulent! There was a lot of turbulence over Thailand especially. At Singapore airport, I got 15 minutes on the internet, and then laid on the loungers for a bit reading my book. I had a little wander around, and then I headed to my gate. The flight from Singapore to Brisbane was okay. I slept most of the way, but there was an annoying little kid next to me and he kept whining, which by the end of 7 1/2 hours was winding me up! The food on all my flights was lovely. I have been given a tour around the flat ... read more

Small problem, well it might not really be a problem - maybe you guys could help me?!?! When I travel in November next year it will be winter throughout Europe and the UK, however in Thailand it will be summer and I'm not actually sure what the weather will be like in Hong Kong. First problem is clothes.. I don't want to pack too many summer clothes and have to lug them around Europe and not use them. I have the option of sending a couple of bits and pieces back with my boyfriend (who is coming to Thailand but then returning to Brisbane) or I guess I could just wear a surrong (Sp??) around for a week and just pack an extra couple of singlets that my bf can take home. Ok maybe that wasn't ... read more

I think I should write a list of things I need to organise or buy before I go... I'm using my trip to the States as kind of a trial run in regards to packing and carrying a pack. The type of travel between the two trips will be quite different though, I will be staying in hotels as apposed to hostels and I will probably need more clothes as I'll be heading out for meals more often and living off a bigger budget :) EUROPE TRIP Passport (British, current - CHECK) Accommodation (in hostels I'm looking for places with free wifi and breakfast included) Flights (quoted $1900 in total - not including return flight London to Ireland) Rail pass (looking at a 1 month unlimited travel pass - around $1000) Travel Insurance Tours Camera (I ... read more

Today we slept in making up for the early mornings working through the week. After eating breakfast and showering I decided today would be a perfect day to to check out Kangaroo Point. Kangaroo Point is a suburb of Brisbane located directly east of the Central Business District across the Brisbane River. We started by walking through the CBD with me showing Mike the stores I had found before. We also managed to find some which wernt open the night before. The best one we found was a MASSIVE surf shop. Four floors each floor the size of a Shoppers Drugmart. Tonnes of amazing clothes. Amazingly didn't spend a cent. From there we went east to the river and then followed the river to the botanical gardens crossing the bridge to southbank. From the bridge if ... read more

Rather like Brisbane. Easy city to wander round, plenty of life long into the night. Went for the cheap option of walking round seeing what I could get into for free. Lots of interesting museums and art galleries dotted about the city. Very pleasant walk way along the river. The thing they do seem to be best at though is parks. Anzac Square in the heart of the city, a monument to Australian war heroes, is incredibly tasteful, refined, and actually quite moving if you take the time to let it in. Botanical Gardens were stunning. Extra entertainment provided by a group of accountants doing daft exercises on the lawns. Looked like a team building exercise. Most of them seemed to stuggle when told to act as a human calculator, add up the total number of ... read more

I'm free! Flew out of there. Should probably have saved a few quid and waited for Buses, but was getting irritable, and didn't really fancy the 23 hour bus ride anyway. Arrived in Brisbane. Probably won't stay long, too much to do in Sydney. Lost enough time in the world's dullest town. Townsville may be fabulous really, but it's charm starts to wane after 3 days with squat to do and rooms full of bed bugs, mossies, and fat german blokes. Hoping to go on tour of Moreton Bay Islands. Sandboarding, snorkeling (by a couple of odd looking shipwrecks) lots of sunbathing plus camping. Irritated enough by mossies. But that was probably the scabby hostel. Thats followed by walking in the blue mountains, and hopefully up some famous bridge down south somewhere. there's meant to be ... read more

Friday, October 19th, 5:45pm, JFK Well, we got to the airport and got through security so fast that now we have to wait another hour. This is so exciting… Sunday, October 21st, 5:30am, In the Air Well, we will be in Brisbane in an hour. It’s been a long-ass flight, but not too bad, although the plane hit something when we were taking off in LA and popped one of the tires as we were just getting up in the air. Shelley is sitting far away from us because they changed her seat when she checked in. Our first flight was late getting in from JFK because of all of the traffic. We actually sat in the runway in New York for an hour and it was so cramped inside the plane. I have only slept ... read more

Our first few hours in Brisbane were spent in the sun drenched botanical gardens waiting for Carol to finish work. Michelle's first impressions of Brisbane, excluding the gardens, was that Brisbane was like a sunnier version of Stevenage. It was good to meet up with Carol and catch up after so long; she had plenty to tell us about her time in Oz, and we had as much to tell her about the last year back home. Her housemate, an Aussie named Glen, is a really nice guy and was very welcoming, and he cooked up a great barbeque for us all by their pool. The rest of the evening is a little hazy thanks to the JD which was free flowing! The weather for the rest of the weekend was pretty awful from our point ... read more

Well as the title suggests I've lots and lots of catching up to do with this blog. As I explained in my previous entry I dropped my camera into the sea in Noosa last week, but it got even better because I fell coming down a little cliff on Fraser Island and dropped it, breaking the shutter so there are no photos accompanying these entries till I get myself sorted! On top of all that 6 or 7 of my blog entries were deleted & only for Maria (Sarah's friend) I'm not sure I'd have ever got any of them back and they were all of my travels in Oz. So anyhow enough whining for now and time to catch up. Me, Niamh & Mark headed to Fraser Island last Wednesday morning. We took a ferry ... read more
