Today we spent exploring Kakadu National Park too. There was an optional flight over Kakadu which i did not do but I would if i went back. The pics from other people were amazing. WE then explored more Aboriginal art and learnt about the history and culture. We boared a Wildlife cruise. It does not guarantee sightseeing of crocs but you do see them like 99.9% of the time. Our guide was incredible. Very funny and knowledgeable and told funny stories of her aboriginal culture and bringing up. She found us a croc. He was huge. The croc swam along side the boat staring at us. His size and power blew me away. He was swimming right next to me just looking. The photos and video I got could not do him justice. Seeing one in ... read more

Today we had breakfast (fruit/toast/cereal) at the hotel. We then departed Darwin to Kakadu. Prior to leaving Darwin we went on a coach tour of the city. We drove down and around Darwin Harbour and past rich houses. We learn about the Japanese attacks during the war and the cyclones that have destroyed Darwin 4 times in the past. We went to Darwin museum and were given an hour or two to look around. It was full of Aboriginal Art, other typical Museum stuff, Sweetheart a huge croc that was caught, and the Cyclone Tracy display. The Cyclone Tracy display and story would have to have been the museum highlight. Ill post some info at the bottom of the blog regarding the story of Cyclone Tracy and also Sweetheart the crocodile if anyone is interested. Next ... read more

Hello everyone! I am now in scorching Northen Terrority hiding in an internet cafe to escape the midday sun - temperatures averaging at 32c this week. I already have bad sunburn on my chest through regular applications of factor 30+ so I'm trying not to sit in the sun too long. I left Sydney 6 days ago after another week of socialising and a lovely roast dinner courtesy of Shaun and Flo the day before I left. It was hard leaving all my friends there but I felt it was time to explore somewhere new. The flight here was long and Darwin is 1/2 hour behind Sydney. Didn't have too good a start as I was sick after we landed and then at 2am in the morning my hostel told me they had let my booking ... read more

Hi again to all. As you all probably know we have spent the last three and a half months in Darwin keeping ourselves relatively busy with myself working and Janie going hard at the gym five days a week (even getting to meet and train with Hugh Jackman!!). All up Janie lost 6kgs and gained a lot of muscle tone, she looks and feels fantastic, whilst I lost around the same by cycling whenever I got a chance though this was much less after I started working. The trick now is to maintain the loss as too much hard work went into losing it… The car saga is finally over and boy are we glad, the less said about that the better! The time I spent working was very enjoyable as the guy’s I worked with ... read more

We’re in Darwin after several nights camping in Kakadu National Park a couple hundred kilometres east of here. What an amazing place; a huge wetlands basin containing 3 large rivers full of crocodiles, eagles and other wildlife, that almost dries up every year before the annual monsoons come. My concern over all the bush fires we’ve seen the last few weeks now makes me smile. At least a third of the million acres in Kakadu burns every year. Seems it’s the local (Aboriginal) way of replenishing their food supply and preventing the “big one” that would actually do some serious damage. What increases the intrigue of the place is that not only are many Aboriginals still living in the area, in the sandstone cliffs that partially surround the basin are thousands of Aboriginal paintings some literally ... read more

Current mood: Glad to be out of work. Okey Dokey… After a wicked night at Daly Waters we all got up and chilled out for the better part of the morning and early afternoon before making a further2 hour trip to an Area of Kakadu National Park called Gunlom Falls. Now knowing Jacqui a little better I wasn’t feeling so shy with my subjects of conversation so all of us laughing our arses off the trip to the falls went by quickly. Arriving again late in the day after little stops along route for munch and drinks we rocked up at the Gate to southern Kakadu where we all got a shot with the van and the opening to the park. (Jacqui I need them pics girly you have the good ones) after taking the shot ... read more

Kakadu 5 Day Top End Explorer After returning to Brisbane for a final night out following my weeks sailing in the Whitsundays, I headed off to sunny Darwin. I didn't really know what to expect of Darwin but when I arrived my worst fears were realised, it has to be the most dullest place I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. After arriving early in the morning I checked into the YHA, which was most disappointing, but provided me with a comfortable bed for the next two nights. Having checked in I set off to discover the town and after approximately an hour I had seen it all so retired to an Irish bar on the main backpackers street. The next couple of days consisted of sitting around the pool and drinking beer at ... read more
