Dear Blog, Hows things? Hope you have been behaving thyself. Obviously I have, but I'm sure you wouldn't expect anything else from me! So, was up bright and early (5am) after a hideous sleep, so was really perky as you can probably imagine, and not at all grumpy. The drive from Darwin to Litchefield National Park (our first port of call) was lovely though, much more like the australia that I was hoping to find, miles upon miles of bush, red earth, endless horizons etc. Our first stop was Buley Rockhole where we went for a short walk and then went for a swim to cool off. Feeling much more refreshed and awake we drove for another couple of hours to Florence Falls for another swim, had hotdogs for lunch and then went on a cruise ... read more

On Wednesday we went to Kakadu national park (which is the same size as Wales 19,000 square Kms),we got picked up at 7am by our tour guide Louise she is also a zoologist which was cool because she was able to tell us loads about animals which obviously i enjoyed. An aboriginal guy called johnny came with us to he does tours as well and he told us lots of ancient stories and explained the aboriginal way of life to us which was interesting. We went in a 4 wheel drive which holds 10 people there were the 2 tour guides, us 4 and 1 guy from Us, 1 guy from Germany, 1 guy from Manchester, and a girl from somewhere in Eastern Europe. We went on a jumping crocodile cruise on the Adelaide River, ... read more

G'day! 26 januari was het Australia Day.

This morning we went on a scenic flight over Kakadu National Park. It was a very smooth flight and the views were incredible. There are so many different eco-systems in just one park- although it is absolutely huge. We had headphones on which commentated on what we were seeing which was good too. After the flight we went back for breakfast and then on to a cruise on the East Alligator River. We saw so many crocodiles- saltwater ones this time. I was a bit nervous sitting next to the water but realised after a while that they don't really approach the boat! We went up-stream and our guide told us lots about the plants, trees and rocks we saw and how they feature in the lives of the aboriginies. We stopped off at a look ... read more

Well we decided to head back to Kakadu concidering we enjoyed it so much last time. This time however we went a little further in. We still camped at Gunlom considering the camp ground is really good. But we traveled further in to Jim Jim falls. The first day we met a couple of Backpackers who were staying at gunlom as well. Henery and Hannae. So we invited them over to the campsite for a little "First Night Maddness" where we sat round the campfire exchanging stories and solving the worlds problems........as one does with a couple of beers in them. The next day we set out in My ute and Soccermum on our way to Jim Jim Falls. A bit of tough 4X4ing to get there but was worth it in the end. As it's ... read more

Kakadu and Litchfield national parks were next on the list, a 3 day camping tour! Less intense than the other tour because it turns out we had been put on a tour more for the oldies so not as much walking (which was fine with us in about 40 degrees heat) and we slept in tents rather than outside. Our days were filled with swimming in waterfalls, discovering rock pools to chill out in….it was a pretty tough time! With it being so hot some of the waterfalls were not running which was a bit disappointing but pretty cool all the same. Saw our first crocs in the wild as well which was cool! Back to Darwin after the tour and it was my final days with Ais which was pretty tough but good times! She ... read more

Kakadu National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and Australia's largest national park, not to mention the backdrop to parts of "Crocodile Dundee". It encompasses a variety of different habitats from wetlands to sandstone escarpments, and boasts over 10,000 species of insect, a third of Australia's bird species, and more reptile species than can be found in all of Europe, in amongst umpteen other superlative facts. It also has a large population of crocodiles, in particular the notorious salt water or estuarine croc. I'd signed up for a 3 day/2 night camping trip to Kakadu, to sample its charms. The tour was led by Darren, a local Aboriginal who thought the 35C temperatures and humidity were a bit nippy. The rest of the group were Antonio (genuine surfer dude from San Diego), James and Maya ... read more

Wow, had the most amazing 4 days in some of the Northern Territories best National Parks :) (You guys must be getting a bit bored of me contantly writing words like wow and amazing but i just can't help it, sorry!) This entry is going to be quite brief and will add photos later because internet is quite expensive here in Broome and I want to save my dollars for other things! Day one started bright and early; we were picked up by our guide, Mick, at 6.30am and we on the road just as the sun was coming up. Our fisrt stop was on a beach on the outskirts of Darwin. We met some aboriginal locals who taught us how to play a didgeridoo(really couldn't get the hang of the circular breathing thing), throw a ... read more
