A really BIG HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY to our very good friend, Dom. Unfortunately his wife Deb is about to have another baby, so there was no celebration, but we will help him make up for that when we come through Sydney early next year. Before I start the travel part of the blog - I have to tell you an hilarious story. A few of you have asked how we have been getting on, given that we are spending every day together and part of it is cooped up in a caravan. Well……one morning while still in Darwin we had a joint ‘spit the dummy’ incident over something as stupid as whether the TV weather report showed a sun with cloud over it for Broome or a plain sun. It got as heated as it can ... read more

Day 133 Sunday 13 August 206 Darwin to Kakadu National Park How sad it was to leave Darwin - it is such a nice place. The weather was magnificent around 32 degrees everyday and never out of shorts and singlet tops. It would be nice to visit in the wet season to see how spectacular the storms are and the humidity. People say they go crazy in the wet season because of the high humidity. On the move again and it was hard to get back into it after two weeks of staying in one spot. Wasn’t far to Kakadu only 250 km’s. Graeme was looking forward to it but because I have done a previous trip down the centre in the 90’s I knew what I was in store for. The kids were quite happy ... read more

Once we had had breakfast, another as-much-as-you-can-eat affair, we started the day with the Guluyambi Aboriginal cultural boat tour on the East Alligator River. This was absolutely fantastic and even stopped off in Arnhem Land Aboriginal Reserve, which is usually off limits The point we were allowed to go apparently used to be a women’s picnic area and whilst there we received a talk about the Aboriginal culture. We checked to see if our kids were listening to the part about the punishments that are still used for law breakers. There were different punishments for men and for women, neither of which made pleasant listening and usually involved a stick or something similar. We also spotted loads of crocodiles, but it was without the birds that I remembered from the Yellow Waters cruise. Our Aboriginal guide ... read more

16/7/06 Had another lie in and lazy morning. Cleaned out the cruiser, washing everything. Changed and went to find Mindl beach for the sunset market, via Nightcliffe area and the car wash which was desperately needed. Lots of market stalls and several street entertainers, had sweet and sour chicken and a fresh fruit shake. Got back to car to find Lisa had texted a bit stressed and overtired arriving home after 28 hours of not sleeping properly. Tried to phone using phone card when we got back with no joy. 17/7/06 Up before 8.00am to pack and shoot off around 9.00am into Litchfield National Park. Saw huge Magnetic termite mounds. Listening to a tour guide. There was also cathedral mounds. Buley Rockhole next, loads of people swimming plus then Florence Falls a huge waterfall and more ... read more

When we eventually got the car sorted we headed off to Kakadu. On the way out of Darwin we passed somewhere called Truck City. This is where I was advised to hitch from when we arrived in Darwin and were trying to find work seventeen years ago. Just by Truck City was the notorious sign that gave the 1479km distance to Alice Springs - depressing when it was where I was trying to get to on the way to Melbourne to find work (see ). The Arnhem Highway to Kakadu was absolute bliss to drive on; long and straight with virtually nothing on it. Once we got used to having the road all to yourself, when we did eventually come across someone else, even in marginal proximity, we really resented it. The M25 is going to ... read more

Az elmúlt öt napban végigjártuk a Northern Territry főbb természeti nevezetességeit, három nemzeit parkot érintve. A nevezetességeket megoszlása kicsit egyenetlen volt: 90% vízesés, 5% Aboriginal (benszülött) sziklarajz, 5% mozgás. A vízeséseskhez mindig tartozott kristálytiszta, áttetsző vizű patak/tó, ami természetes, gyönyörű úszómedenceként szolgált.

Just outside of Darwin I stopped again at the Aboriginal Arts centre just so that I could play with the snake! I was then off into Kakadu National Park, passing through a little place called Humpty Doo. Nothing important about the place at all, I just liked the name. Jabiru is at the heart of the National Park but being fully booked up I had to stay in Cooinda. The wet season finished late this year and as a consequence most of the attractions of the National Park are closed. During the wet season salt water crocodiles move around freely in the high waters. When the waters drop they then have to be removed from areas that tourists will be going. This process has not yet been completed so most places are still closed. I did ... read more

I'm afraid, I've left it too long to write up these days in my diary, so I'm gonna have to keep it to bullet points and leave the photos to tell the story, since my memory is already loosing the details.... Got picked up by Lionel, my tour guide for the next 3 days camping in Kakadu National Park. Lionel turned out to be the most amazing guide, he's half aboriginal and has lived in kakadu for 4 years, so knew everything there was to know about the whole place. We had a great time eating kangaroo stir fry, swimming under waterfalls, catching frillied neck lizards, grabbing handfuls of catfish whilst in the waterholes, checking out 50,000year old artwork and getting stoned and playing the digeredoo - believe me, if there's one instrument that really takes ... read more

ah shucks...i truley wish i could be in several places at once. Cause there is no question i would love to attend the float trip even though i am surrounded by deep sea diving and outback safari's. If another one happens towards the end of august i am game. Anywho, i am back from yet another outback adventure. This time we were in the tropical Top End of australia in some of the largest national parks called kakadu and litchfield. These are full of wildlife and climate change. Some of the main features of the trip were relaxing in some waterfalls and various rock pools. We also went on a crocodile cruise. These are extremely popular up here as this area is one of the main sections were saltwater crocs slip into the bogs and billabongs ... read more

The Greyhound pass not only included the journey to Kakadu, but a tour round as well. On the way there, we stopped off at some termite mounds. These were huge, easily 10 foot tall, and there were thousands of them everywhere. Upon arrival at Kakadu we went on our tour round. One of the highlights was the Aboriginal paintings at Nourlangie Rock which were literally thousands of years old. Successive generations of Aborigines had 'touched-up' these paintings, until now that is. Elaborate measures had been employed to protect the paintings, as when they fade now, they'll be gone forever. The best way to see Kakadu is by boat, so we booked to go on a boat tour the following day. This meant another early start as the main attraction are the crocs and they tend to ... read more
