Just spent the weekend with Jen! Is a bit surreal when you're on a ferry to Manly beach with one of your best friends from school, who you haven't seen in over 6months, looking at the Opera House!!Weird! Haven't really got much else to report, but thought everyone would be dead jealous if I put up a photo of Jen, Dan and I at the beach!! Jen and I caught the ferry over the Manly on sunday morning (luckily the crossing was calm-we'd been out the night before!) and met up with Dan who'd just arrived. Had a bum round Manly, then sat on the beach until stomachs were seriously rumbling! That was quickly resolved by the largest bowl of soup I've ever seen! We watched the sun set over manly wharf then hit the bars ... read more

Still can’t quite believe that we are in Australia but after five (amazing) months in Nz we have hopped across to see her much bigger brother. We arrived here about 3 days ago after a good weekend in Christchurch - Highlights of which included being invited (gatecrashing?) a 21st birthday party in a really cool bar and going to a fantastic bead shop and making each other beaded bracelets because we are travelers now and that’s what us traveler types like to wear. And of course being in Christchurch which is a nice city with lots of old (well older) buildings and parks and stuff. It wasn’t all fun and games though as in order to get to Sydney we had to get up at 4am in the pouring rain and darkness to get a shuttle ... read more

Well we got here in one piece, although the jet lag has rather taken its toll. Today is the first time I have felt human. Anyway, after a grey start, the sun has come out and we have managed to explore some of the city. Coming in from Manly across the harbour provides a perfect introduction to the city, with the opera house and bridge the cliched but true indication that we had arrived. We spent today pottering around the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain, taking hundreds of pictures of the harbour from all conceivable angles. We also visited the Hyde Park Barracks, which makes two museums in two days - we saw the Museum of Sydney yesterday, not that I can recall much of it due to lack of sleep (cockatoos outside the bedroom at ... read more

My last day in Sydney… I walked directly to the botanical gardens and found an ancient ficus tree. Got under it and read my Law School Confidential book. “Whoa,” what a wake up call. I’ve got law school to look forward to when I get back… not that I’m worried, but it did remind me that while I’m here, I want to make the most of everything. With a few days left, I plan to stretch each day to the fullest, no matter what that actually means… I jumped on a ferry that took me to Manly Beach. Great name. Great beach. (refer to Sara’s comment about OZ v. LA beaches). There were some great surf shops too, but I was disappointed to find out that the coolest named shop, surfection, didn’t have a shop shirt ... read more

Hi pals! We're writing this from Honkers but this blog is actually about the three busy days we had last week travelling between Auckland, Sydney and then on to Hong Kong. Phew - it's the most active that we've been for months. We left Auckland on Tuesday afternoon - a big thanks to cousin Ian for driving us to the airport in his lovely new Pajero, and for Auntie Sylvia for accompanying us. It was ace having you both there to ensure that we got on the plane, but you were probably glad to see the back of us! From there it was absolutely terrific to be back in Sydney, albeit only for a couple of days. We arrived here late afternoon, got a cab straight into town to meet Bingo and promptly had ourselves a ... read more

Yes was a very calm day. I loved it though. I did just what I wanted to do, which was wander around everywhere looking at markets. I can't really do loads of things now coz of money (bit tight now!) Today as pretty much the same! I ended up at Manly beach which ws a lot nicer than Bondi, but it's getting quite chilly. ... read more

:( ... read more

Eihän me oltu ku vajaat puoltoista tuntia, ettei kovin pahasti palais näin ekalla kerralla. Ja aurinkorasvahan on 30+ suojakertoimella.. saas nähä onko tytöt siltikin huomenna ihan rapuja. Toivotaan ettei!

Well I am here. The trip over was a disaster with my luggage getting lost and delays and cancellations, but I got my luggage on the second day thankfully. I have my apartment on the edge of campus by myself despite previous intentions because it was virtually impossible to find anything for 3 people let alone furnished at this point in the game. I was lucky to get what I did, and it is expensive, but everything in this freaking city is ridiculously expensive anyways. I move in there Sunday. I won't bore anyone with the details of settling in, but I am back online with my computer and that is a very amazing thing. Here are some of the things I have been upto other than checking out Sydney as a whole and figuring things ... read more

We swapped rooms in the morning to a double and headed to the beach. It was really windy and the sand flying everywhere was annoying so we gave up and went back to the hostel. We sat on the grass by the beach for a while but then it got a bit cold so we went to the supermarket and bought our dinner. We went to a card shop to buy our valentines cards for tomorrow (how romantic!!) and went back to the hostel. We had a tv in our room and much to Carly's delight the new series of Desperate Housewives was on!! Yay! Happy Valentines Day!! Weather wise it was a cloudy and grim so we had a look in the shops and came back to the hostel. Stuart watched the cricket while Carly ... read more
