In between Christmas and New Year I went to the Clovelly beach with Ed, Blythe and their friend Nicki who I had met once in London. Clovelly is a little alcove beach with lots of rocks and coral protected in the harbour so there are plenty of fish to see.... I even spied I grouper fish which was about 1 foot long! On New Year's Eve, after a spot of outfit shopping on my part - (back packers clothes weren't good enough) for my lined up evening! For part 1 of the evening I met up Lex, Dwight and Glenn and we went and hunted amongst the 1000's of revelers for our own little vantage point to see the fireworks. We were very lucky that we had found one and even managed to get a little ... read more

Happy New Year Everyone! Hope everyone is well and that you all had a great Christmas and New Year. So... it's been a while since my last journal but as you would expect I have been busy hoping on planes and trying to see as much of Melbourne and Sydney as I can in such a short space of time. I left the volunteer centre on Thursday 22nd December, which was far more emotional than I ever expected and it's amazing how that place has left it's mark in my heart. Seriously, I've only been gone for just over a week and I miss it so much but at least I've managed to find some sun at long last! ;-) Let me start by saying that so far Australia is great... but I'm still looking for ... read more

Opened presents and had a great breakfast. All three of us had full stockings! Amazing Santa knew we were here!! Headed to Manly beach for a couple of hours - the boys surfed and boogie board in the sea. We then had snacks and wine on the beach before heading back to start our Xmas feast. Had an enormous xmas dinner, spent the rest of the evening trying to digest it! ... read more

Dear All, Greeting from Down Under!!! This trip really has been full of surprises, starting with our pick up from the airport. Jamie Stewart has really grown up and had no real trouble in spotting me. I had a momentary lapse but soon recognised who this six foot chap was, greeting me with a huge grin. The next eye opener was being driven from the airport to Manly by Murray Stewart!!!! The last I remember he was still wearing shorts at Clifton Prep! It has been great to see the Stewarts again after such a long time. They have a fantastic spot in Manly, extremely close to the beach and the lifesaving club. Our first afternoon in Sydney, the boys and Jean were very good and showed us some of the local sights and took us ... read more

Well today was the 1 year anniversary of the Sydneysiders "Cookery Club", and it turned out to be an alcohol fuelled, food frenzy extravaganza of a banquet. With a few people unable to make it for the evening (They missed out). There were 9 of us in total each having cooked a special meal for the others, so with 9 different meals to eat, you can imagine there was the necessity of course for an even larger amount of alcohol required to wash it all down with. After the bbq a fish off was held with a few of us taking to casting out into the warm waters to reel em in. After my first fishing endeavour the previous week, I didn't manage to catch a thing so it was just as well I had eaten ... read more

Foster's, rugby and crocodiles. Not to mention poisonous jellyfish and miles of parched desert. This is what I imagined would greet us as we stepped off the plane in Sydney. Instead we found an international city perfectly placed in the South Pacific. Four million people and a city to rival some of the world's greatest, but in the tropics. So while you were carving up your succulent turkeys, Mark and I were on the beach. And not just any sandy cove, but Bondi Beach, where every inch of sand is covered with locals and tourists with one thing in common...bare chests. Late nights in Syndey Harbor. Discovering local neighborhood restaurants. Fine Aussie wine. Jet Cat rides. Running into an old friend from yoga. We won't bore you with the details. But Syndey was a perfect place ... read more
