We left the Princes highway at Geelong and headed for the Great Ocean Road which starts at Torquay just to the south. Stopped off in Torquay to have a look around a craft fair on the sea front, nice little place but we didn’t buy anything, just had a coffee and moved on. The great ocean road was built by veterans of the first world war and what a job they did. As soon as you hit the coastline, the camera comes out as the views are stunning,. Then you drive on and turn the next bend and the views are even better. Had a couple of stops in the look outs and took some pictures and made our way slowly to Apollo Bay where we booked into a motel and got a takeaway, which we ... read more

Here i am again writing.... For 2$ / hour, we can afford coming on the net almost everyday!! We went to Manly beach today which is about 30 min North of Sydney...Nick, the hostel manager, drove us with his camper van and we took the 30 min ferry ride back to the city... Manly was actually nicer and quieter than Bondi beach.....but i kept my tshirt on this time to hide my sunburn from the day before. Tonight, enjoyed our first good meal of the trip at a steak house taht was offering a special on Mondays for 10$ ( we spotted that place when we got there last Wednesday! :) SO basically, we had a full meal with a beer (i'm still full) for about half of the price back home....Probably the only time we ... read more

Well I thought it was about time I sent you a little update about the stuff we've been up to in Sydney since we've arrived back. I'm afraid there aren't many photo's because I've been a bit useless and not taken my camera out at important times! We raced back to Sydney in time for Australia day on the 26th of Jan - all the local's got really dressed up and had transfer flags on their arms and cheeks etc, there was a really good atmosphere! We spent most of the day in Darling Harbour (poor Tom had to work in the evening), watching all the street performers and generally enjoying the atmosphere. In the morning we also saw the commonwealth torch pass through Manly which was quite exciting. Have spent much of my time looking ... read more

Well here we are again. Since the last blog, we've moved around a little. We stayed in Dee Why for a few days, had a great time chilling out and getting ready for a lot of travelling round to Adelaide. The first day we made for Kiama, quite a nice place with a blow hole in the cliffs. Didn't blow while we were there though because the sea wasn't rough enough, still worth a visit. Next we moved on to Batemans Bay, on the Clyde River. Nice town this, we found some accomodation and went to the local club for dinner and played the Pokies, (slot machines) for a while. The following day we decided to head for Moruya Heads and found a great beach on the South Heads there. Spent a couple of hours there ... read more

Hello! When we arrived in Manly we booked into the backpackers lodge for a week so we could all settle down a little and try and organise some things!! I think i may have left it out last time but a few of us went to the Sydney Aquarium which was pretty interesting. It includes all sorts of australian sealife including crocodiles and big old sharks! I managed to get some photos but due to the reflection of the glass i didnt manage to get any great ones! When we got to manly, to our surprise we met up with another 5 or so people that everyone already knew back in essex so we are currently a group of about 15 strong! The week has been interesting to say the least! The hostel is basic but ... read more

Hey, After our 4 or so day in Bondi we decided to head off to Sydney for a night before heading to manly where one of the guys we are with is currently living. We have been going out pretty much every night and hardly living the life of travellers but we are all agreed that has to change! The last few nights have been pretty hectic. At one point we found ourselves in kings cross which for those of you that know - its not exactly the nicest place in the world. In sydney weve been out for a few nights out at circular quay which is where the opera house is. Its an amazing location with alot of swanky bars and views of both the opera house and the harbour bridge! We started off ... read more

To my dearest friends, fans, and adventurers-- After months of daydreaming, I am finally gearing up for departure day. The inspiration: torturous hours in the computer lab debaclising over statistical analyses The destination: South Island, N Zed The adventure: bicycle tour as a farmhand Besides many hours of fanciful dreaming, the itinerary remains logistically lacking one day prior to departure. I have, however, acquired a fairly decent map of New Zealand and some bicycle bags that resemble modern alloys of Don Quixote's sachels. And so, like a madman with coconuts, I gallop off into the sunset of serendipity...... read more

After Christmas I moved onto manly, which is a beach off the northern mouth of Sydney. Manly is a great beach and full of people. My hostel was a little on the stuffy side with four sweaty lads in on small room with no ventilation! The people were fun though. I lulled the time away by laying on the beach, plating some volley ball and having a go at surfing. New years eve was spent in the city centre, of course. I watch the first fireworks display, at 21:00, in Darling harbour. It was packed! After that I headed to the rocks and watched the midnight display from under the bridge. The display was massive and lasted for about 10 mins. After midnight I caught the first ferry back to Manly and meet a guy from ... read more

So here we are, 7 weeks after we left and we're in Dee Why, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. It's ten to eight in the evening and I'm in my swimming shorts, (because its been about 43 degrees C here today), oh and everywhere you look there are Christmas decorations. (Doesn't seem right really). We stayed with Vikky & Roger in their beautiful home in Nerang overlooking the Gold Coast for two weeks and then took a couple of days to drive down to Sydney to be with Di and George for the New Year celebrations. Roger was working in Western Australia for the first week, we were in Queensland but we did plenty of different things around the area, (Vikky really looked after us), and we bought a car for our travels. It's a Mitsubishi ... read more
