The last few days have been painful to say the least, which has resulted in me not doing too much but rest back at Bondi. I drove back from the Blue Mountains on Saturday morning, much to the relief of my roommates who no doubt endured a dreadful night's sleep while I snored through my mouth, on account of my bloody and blocked nose. The drive back was uncomfortable - my back hurts far more than anything else so steering was interesting. Back at the car hire place, I managed to get 50 dollars refunded to me on account of the sat nav failing to charge up in the car I was driving (not sorry to see the back of the Corolla - not a patch on my Hyundais...), so there was some good news at ... read more

Hi Campers!, On 23rd December we caught our last greyhound bus to Sydney; our last stop in our Australian adventure! We arrived in central Sydney at lunch time and caught a taxi to North Bondi where Rory (Anton's friend from uni) lived. He met us from the taxi and showed us into his apartment that he shares with another English man called Ben (they both manage bars called Bavarian Bier Cafe, Rory in Bondi and Ben in Crows Nest). The lounge window in the apartment looked over the famous Bondi Beach. Rory very kindly gave up his room for us and was going to sleep on the sofa for the next 10 days! That afternoon Rory walked us down to Bondi Beach and then we went on a coastal walk to Tamarama beach; luckily the weather ... read more

Today's going to be weird. Not only in that I'm missing the traditional Christmas madness that is Christmas with my family but that I'm going to be on Bondi beach topping up my tan rather than pulling on that additional Christmas woolly jumper and grabbing a spot by the fire. I've tried to escape the madness of Christmas back home for a couple of years, with limited success. In days gone by, it was the highlight of my year - Christmas Eve in The Railway, catching up with old friends who, like me, had moved away but returned for the annual festivities, then Christmas Day with a minimum attendance of 10 at Mum's, which would be a full-on eat and drink fest from 8am until everyone fell asleep in an arm chair. My reasons for trying ... read more

We were up early and heading over to Bondi by 7.30am for a Yoga class held by the sea at Bondi. The class it at the end of the beach in Iceberg’s (a café/pool/gym resort) and looks out over the ocean – if you’re going to try Yoga, this is definitely the place to do it! The class was really busy, with only a couple of inches between each yoga mat, but it felt good to be twisting and turning our bodies whilst taking in the fresh sea air first thing on a Saturday. After the class we planned to spend the day on Bondi beach, but first picked up some breakfast at McDonalds (there goes the good that the yoga class did)! There was a strange haze over the Northern end of Bondi beach for ... read more

Taking on day number 2 of Beach Exploring, this time it was Bondi we decided to check out. We caught the 380 bus from the end of our road over to Bondi – again with it being a sunny day it wasn’t only us that thought of heading to the beach, so the 30min bus journey was pretty busy with surf boards and boogie boards cluttering up the aisles too! We found a good spot on Bondi beach and laid down our towels for some reading and napping in the sunshine. However the weather turned at around 3pm and some ominous dark clouds filled the sky! Just as we decided to pack up and find ourselves a café the rain started to drop and every other beach goer began doing the same. The beach was pretty ... read more

I planned for a day at the beach today. With everyone working I was off on my own again today. I woke up this morning grabbed a few apples and walked out the door. Of course I brushed my teeth, bathed, clothed myself and dropped the extra weight before heading out the door. Again another beautiful day in Australia as I walked to the train station. I forgot to mention that being in Sydney almost feels like being in China. The first thing I noticed when I got out of the plane was a lot of Chinese people. And walking around Sydney's CBD (atul I defined this in a previous blog entry, ref. Sydney Day 1 blog entry), it is filled with Chinese people. So I wonder sometimes if I came to Sydney for vacation or ... read more

Day 10, 21/9/11: Went to another beach today, this time the ever famous Bondi Beach. Was a lovely beach but the weather always seems to get a bit chilly around 4 o'clock, it will probably get warmer as it is just coming in to their summer. Took Michael McIntyres autobiography and managed to read a fair bit. Day 11, 22/9/11: Went up to the OzIntro office to get my travel vouchers for all the trips that I had booked and got given a free VIP card (usually $35) which gets you discounts on loads of hostels around Australia and New Zealand. In the afternoon the hostel we are staying at organised a free trip to Coogee Beach, this included free 'goon' (a very cheap but nice wine) and a free BBQ so I couldn't say no ... read more

Day 3, 14/9/11: Learned to surf today which was brilliant, managed to stand up twice but got so worn out that I couldn't do it anymore so I have booked up for a 5 day learn to surf trip up to Byron Bay. Was at a private beach about 45mins away from Bondi, had to wear wet suits and got to drive in a 4WD along the beach. Waves were awesome. Day 4, 15/9/11: Had a travel talk this morning and went to Bondi at around lunch time, went for a swim in the water and the massive waves, met some of the lifeguards from Bondi Rescue and a 72 year old Australian man taught me and this girl how to body board but the water was very cold. We then had a fairly long walk ... read more

This morning we woke up a little late, which was wonderful, got ready and headed out to find some breakfast. Breakfast buffet at the hotel was $20 per person, which was a bit much for us, so we ended up eating at Hungry Jack's, which is the Australian version of Burger King. Hopefully we'll find better breakfast tomorrow but we just really wanted to get moving. Hungry Jack's was down George Street so we kept moving in that direction and ended up at Circular Quay. Meg had already texted me the ferry schedule so we hopped on a ferry to Watson's Bay. Watson's Bay was near Bondi Beach and also near Meg's house so she was going to drive down to the docks and meet us. It was another bright sunshiney day and we enjoyed the ... read more
