This morning we woke up a little late, which was wonderful, got ready and headed out to find some breakfast. Breakfast buffet at the hotel was $20 per person, which was a bit much for us, so we ended up eating at Hungry Jack's, which is the Australian version of Burger King. Hopefully we'll find better breakfast tomorrow but we just really wanted to get moving. Hungry Jack's was down George Street so we kept moving in that direction and ended up at Circular Quay. Meg had already texted me the ferry schedule so we hopped on a ferry to Watson's Bay. Watson's Bay was near Bondi Beach and also near Meg's house so she was going to drive down to the docks and meet us. It was another bright sunshiney day and we enjoyed the 15 minute ferry ride out to Watson's Bay. We put our feet in the sand and even stuck them in the extremely cold water while we waited for her.
Once we found each other Meg took us up to the overlook and we took tons of pictures of the ocean and the cliffs. Apparently the cliff there has a problem with people coming there
to jump off and commit suicide. Meg said there's a man that lives nearby with a view of the popular jumping spot and he often walks out with two cups of tea when there's a jumper so they can sit down and have a talk about whatever's wrong and hopefully prevent the person from jumping.
After walking around we went for a drive in Meg's car down to Bondi Beach. For the most part we all sat on the beach and chatted and watched the surfers. The water was still pretty cold and even though the day was warm, it wasn't hot and there weren't very many people out on the beach. It was perfect. Matt went down and asked about surfing lessons but didn't end up doing any. Eventually, Meg had to leave to pick up the boys from school (she's a nanny) and we decided to stay put and catch the bus home. After she left we laid out for a bit and then walked around and explored the shops near the beach and had a sandwich.
Once we saw everything there was to see around Bondi we started walking the path towards Coogee. We saw
the coolest swimming pool we've ever seen at Iceburg's...it's built right on the ocean and the waves break over the edge of the pool! Our friend Rowelly recommended that we swim there but after sticking my toes in the edge of the ocean neither of us were all that anxious to immerse our entire bodies lol. We continued along the path and found some great rocks to climb around on. We found little snails in the tidepools and stayed down there for quite a while until the tide started coming in. We made it as far as Tamarama Beach and then backtracked back to Bondi along the road so we could figure out how to get home. About 5:00 or so we caught the bus to the train station and then took the train back to Sydney Central to grab a shower before meeting Meg for an evening out.
It's Friday night at this point and Meg thought there was supposed to be some sort of a street fair down at the Rocks but when we got there we discovered that the times had changed from what she thought. We sat at an Irish pub instead and chatted until
Meg had to catch a taxi back home to put the boys to bed. Matt and I walked back to the hotel and I grabbed a sandwich on the way. Amazingly, we're not very hungry these days. I wonder if it has something to do with the time change? I'm glad we're not all that hungry because Sydney is expensive and I'd rather save our money for doing fun stuff later!
