DAY 400 Would you believe it is day 400 today? I cannot quite believe it myself, I had not realised until I sat to type the blog up for yesterday. We had another relatively peaceful night after my idle threat with the rolled us newspaper just before going to bed, well I think so anyway, I did hear a dawn chorus of howling but that either did not last long or I just slept through it anyway! I find Andy and Helen sat in the kitchen drinking tea, Robert too was sat there, unusually late for Robert as he is always long gone by the time I get up. I make a cup of tea, but for breakfast Helen decides that bacon and eggs must be a good thing this morning, well it is Saturday so ... read more

DAY 399 A productive day was to be had again today, once we had breakfast, we all set about doing what needed to be done. Andy was up early this morning, helping Helen make the Christmas cake, they managed to get 4 different sized cakes in to the oven. My task this morning was to wrap up Christmas presents, so Helen made little piles up of presents and standing at the dining room table one by one I wrapped and Helen wrote the labels. I don’t know how many Christmas presents I wrapped but it took all morning, some presents easier to wrap than others depending on the shapes. It reminded me of how I used to sit and wrap presents at Christmas in England, I would spend a Sunday afternoon put a good film on ... read more

DAY 398 I have no idea what time it was when I awoke in a blind panic, blind literally as it was pitch black, which I feel that I am not accustomed to, it may sound mad but the night was pitch black, there was no moonlight seeping through the window and although the blind was partially open I could see nothing, I think I was dreaming that there were no windows and I needed air, sitting bolt upright in bed I remembered where I was and found the light switch, I composed myself and eventually I switched the light off and went back to sleep. When the daylight was well and truly up Andy slipped out of bed and soon returned with a cup of tea for me, I wanted to be up early as ... read more

DAY 397 I woke early again today, and went out in to the Kitchen, Robert had just left and Helen was her usual busy, cheerful self. She exclaimed that she was off for some paid work today, at the school where she retired from a couple of years ago. I was interested in the school, Caroline and I thought it was in Wagga Wagga or Junee, but we were both wrong, Helen said it was just down the road in Nangus, I asked Helen how many kids were at the school and she said 14, yes that’s was what I wrote fourteen kids and one teacher, how sweet!! Helen knew Caroline and myself were off to Wagga Wagga today to do our Christmas shopping, and said if we get time we ought to drop pop in ... read more

DAY 396 Jason had asked me last night if I wouldn’t mind helping today, driving one of the vehicles, as there are lots of straw bails over the paddocks that need picking up with the front end loader, and carting up to the hay sheds at Rockley. So I was up bright and breezy this morning ready for Jason to come down the lane and pick me up, between 7.00 and 7.30. Just to say that Jason lives in a house called Merryville, which is a house about ½ a Kilometer away on Helen and Roberts land, which you can see from the kitchen window. To put it in perspective, Jason could get absolutely plastered and drive home, knowing he would not need to get out on to the public highway and would be safe from ... read more

DAY 395 Andy was sitting at the kitchen worktop when I appeared this morning, I slept so heavily last night, despite a good chorus from the dogs, and felt tired still, but when we sleep indoors I don’t always wake up as early as I do when we are camping out. While I made a cup of tea and some toast for breakfast, Andy Skyped our friends Gary and Karen back in England, during the conversation we received a complaint to the editor, Gary had to wait 2 days for the last blog and thinks its not good enough, sorry Gary will try not to let it happen again, just a small issue of no internet in the middle of Kosciuszko National Park! While we were chatting to Gary and Karen a little Kelpie nose appeared ... read more

DAY 394 Waking up in a proper bed again, the sun is just at the right point to shine directly in my eyes through the blind, I have no idea what time it is, I cannot be bothered to look at my watch. We all had a late night last night, although I have no doubt that Helen and Robert will have been up early and back out on the farm doing what needs to be done. Eventually I struggle out of bed, walking back down the hallway I hear Susan shout “morning!” from her room, she is sat on the bed with her laptop, tapping away. Amy is still sound asleep. The kettle is on and we all have a cup of tea, Amy joins us soon after, then Susan gets a decent breakfast of ... read more

DAY 383 At the beginning of our trip we did say that we would share our bad days with you, not just the good, travelling can have its bad days and we have been exceptionally lucky not to have incurred too many problems, however today actually works out to be a sad day for us. I woke at 4.00 am this morning, and being a morning person it is the best time for me when my thoughts are crystal clear, I played the whole puzzle out, stacking the dominoes in the right order in my mind to get the outcome that was best for everyone. It is not just me that bears the ramifications of my actions, others are affected, Caroline is my main concern, and then of course Helen! I dive into my book whilst ... read more

DAY 382 I slept well last night after our very long day, but wow it is personally rewarding, my soul is settled as it feels like it has gained its worth again, that is important to me. I am a man who likes to be busy, I need to make a contribution and I love travelling but I also need a purpose. I have been at the point of driving Caroline nuts, when we were in Darwin, I felt I just needed to be working, and consequently became a pain in the backside, though Caroline has also now been through these feelings herself, though I have no doubt that it will all fit in to place when we settle and get back full time to the work thing when the time is right. Farm life is ... read more

DAY 381 I worry about the unthinkable happening, we have been blogging for over a year now, so what is the likelihood that we will accidentally entitle a blog with a name that we have used before, I wonder if any other blogger has had that problem? I am sure they have. Yesterdays blog, I entitled “No Flies On Us”, I had to check back to see if we had used it, especially at Kalbarri in WA, there were so many flies when we went into the National Park to do the loop walk etc. when we had to use the fly nets. I cannot see the title so I used it, but I cannot remember when we were there so I had to wade through the dates to work it all out! I have a ... read more
