DAY 422 Ah, Sunday morning, a nice breakfast of tea and toast (with marmite of course - I am happy to adopt everything Australian, but I cannot deal with Vegemite), and then it was outside to get on with a few things on the trailer, we need to finalise the modifications and get the trailer ready for when we move on. Unfortunately Andy decides to make a couple of modifications to the modifications already done, I do despair, but I can see the point of what he is trying to achieve so I give him a hand. After a nice start to the day, I do feel a little lost, I think it is that New Year feeling, everyone heads back to work tomorrow, and we don’t have a focus so Andy and I agree that ... read more

DAY 418 I enjoyed the tranquillity of the bedroom before joining the hive of activity in the kitchen, however I only find Robert, it seems that everyone else is outside, looking out of the window Helen is almost up to her knees in water waving a little fish net around standing in the emptying fish pond. So today is the day that the fishpond gets a clean, it is all hands including 5 year old Alex who appears to be supervising the catching of the fish. The water is draining away slowly but catching the fish is also a slow exercise the water is quite soupy with algae so they are hard to spot. Andy is busy mowing the lawn with Helens sit on mower I glance over and wave, he waves back, I can see ... read more

DAY 417 A day of choices today, it is Susan’s birthday and she is heading off into Wagga to have her hair done, so I can either leave at 8.00 with Susan or I can leave at 9.00 with Helen and Patsy, I knew that I would not be quite ready so I left at 9.00 with Helen and Patsy. Andy is staying behind to do some chores for Helen, his first job of the day is to go and feed the Chickens and the dogs up at Merryville. So we head into Junee first so that Helen can have the stitches removed from her foot, I popped over to the bank as I had a cheque to pay in, it opens at 9.30 and there was already a queue of two people in front of ... read more

DAY 416 Well Andy woke me at 6.00 with a cup of tea, I think everyone was waiting with anticipation to see if I would actually get up, now I do get up early if I have to, so Andy just encourages me by telling me he will buy me breakfast once we are on the road which makes it slightly more tempting for me. I am up and soon ready to go, I don’t even think I finished drinking my tea! Wandering out to the truck on this sunny morning I turn round to see all of the lovely dogs looking at us, well all except Kimba who is already sitting in her TV spot watching the chickens and Ducks. It does not matter what time of day it is you can always feel 12 ... read more

DAY 415 Before we had even had breakfast, Andy and I headed over to Merriville to feed the chickens and dogs. As usual when we get there I disappear to sort the dogs out, I am suddenly surrounded by 9 puppies yapping and pulling on my laces, socks and gators, in fact it becomes difficult to walk as I don’t want to step on their tiny little bodies so I lift each foot carefully as if I am walking on the moon in a no gravity environment, putting each foot down with care. These gorgeous puppies know that I am here to feed and water them or do they just want to play? Candy is excited to see me so after a bit of a fuss I go over and get the food, with a bit ... read more

DAY 414 A cool start to the day, it had rained again over night, but the general feeling is that it is not enough to make a difference to the dams. After breakfast Andy and I head off to feed Jasons chickens and dogs. They are all waiting with eager anticipation when we arrive, especially the puppies who are all over me yapping and vying for my attention, I am really starting to see their little personalities develop, some puppies are looking a little bigger than others no doubt taking more than their fair share of food. One or two of the puppies are more timid than the others and seem to hang back a bit. Once the dogs are fed and watered I go and help Andy with the chickens, it is an easier job ... read more

DAY 413 The title of today’s blog would be better sung by Bing Crosby, but substituting the word White for Wet. Iiiiiiiimmmm Dreeeaaaming of a wet Christmas Blah blah, blah blah blah blah blar blah I was first up this morning getting out of bed at just about 06.30, I dressed and went and put the Kettle on and soon Helen wandered out of their bed room and we wished each other a very Merry Christmas. I asked her if she would like tea and she said she would and said that she was going over to Merryville to feed the Chooks and the dogs for Jason, I said, “please Helen give it ten minutes and have your tea, then we can get around to being busy”. I took Caroline her morning cup in and we ... read more

DAY 412 Well today is Christmas Eve, and even though we are 10,000 miles away from where we started, the hubbub of Christmas is no different. The only major difference is here at Woodstock Farm, Nangus, New South Wales, Australia its 38.3 degree’s and without labouring the point it is baking hot. Christmas Eve in the UK will never be described at baking hot, most probably because home in the UK is wrapped in the middle of Winter whilst, here in Australia our new world is right in the middle of Summer. Though many of our readers will sigh and wish for the warmer weather after being entrenched in snow for a while, here on the farm, they have been in drought for nearly a decade, and all they would like for Christmas is some rain, ... read more

DAY 411 I was up bright and early again this morning, Jason comes across from Merriville with a pot of Antibiotics for the chickens, as the one we had to send to Chicken Heaven the other day was one of Jason’s and now Helen has got lots of Jason’s chicken cast off’s it seems sensible to give them all a good dose of medicine. How do you get chickens to take medicine, well the night before last we tipped out all their water and left them for 12 hours, this morning we filled only one drinking water barrel and put the Antibiotic powder in and left them hopefully to drink. We shut the ducks in the chicken coup with water and left them they did not need any medicine as apparently the ducks wash their heads ... read more

DAY 410 I Skyped Mum and Dad first thing this morning, I was still getting over my cold so Mum was about to tell me to go to bed with a hot water bottle, but then remembered that it was morning over here and because of the heat you wouldn’t really want a hot water bottle. They are surrounded by snow, but for how long I don’t know it is still very cold over there but I am sure the rain will come soon. The scenario here is so different, the temperatures are in the high 30’s, everyone hopes for rain, especially on Christmas Day, because there will least likely be a fire. A day of cooking and cleaning today, I am still not feeling up to much but while Andy and Helen beetle around doing ... read more
