This has gotta be my last entry (ever?) since I'm back home now which means my adventure in China is over. To Sum Up My Experience: Only In China, I... *Spent the night in a tent at the base camp of Mount Everest. *Rode a camel through the Taklamakan Desert in Xinjiang. *Partook in a massive snowball fight on Heavenly Mountain. *Took in all of China from atop the massive Great Wall. *Luged down the Great Wall. *Went scuba diving at a National Coral Reserve in Hainan. *Saw the Potala Palace, and the tombs of many past Dalai Lama. *Watched monks in the middle of a heated debate in a monastery in Lhasa. *Spent hours hiking around Hangzhou only to stumble upon a real, functioning Daoist compound with mom and dad. *Avoided a dinner ceremony involving ... read more

I am writing this first entry as a transition. A transition from the life I have lived and loved in Washington, DC consecutively from Sept. 1, 2004 - May 21, 2006 - with only small vacation breaks to Mexico, Europe and home in FL. Now it is time to move on. Breaking my comfort zone. I have scoped out and come into contact with friends who will be in Nicaragua: staying with a friend of my former professor, contacted Aygul and Eliza (Gtown 09 and 08), know a friend from Student Campaign for Child Survival who will be volunteering as a medical helper in Esteli, the town just south of the town I will be staying in, Somoto. Map of Nicaragua Right now I am procrastinating by creating this blog. But really I must be packing! ... read more

things are going well. a little slow and sleepy today, but well. yesterday i had my first mexico hoy class. it was really interesting because the professor talked about what we were observing about mexican culture - the driving, trash, machismo (the thinking that men are superior to women), etc. after that, we went home and had la comida, and then a nap (of course..) and then we went to café social, which was at a restaurant where a bunch of students from universidad internacional went to talk a little. it was fun. after that we went to emily, lindsay and lindsay´s house to watch orgullo y prejuício (pride & predjudice).. they had bought it from the falluca, so it was pirated, with spanish subtitles. pretty funny, especially when the subtitles were completely wrong. and when ... read more

Dear all, first of my blogs,so bear (tehehehe) with me. Just got back from a week in the Canadian rockies, flew in to Calgary, straight in the hire car to Banff. Stayed in the Banff Caribou Lodge, very nice place, beds are so comfy, so nice after a long flight. Also has a great restaurant in the hotel, part of the Keg chain, can't beat a 14 oZ Prime Rib with garlic mash...mmmmmmmmm. After a very early start, that damn jet lag, headed off up the Icefield's Parkway en route to Jasper. If you go flat out the journey only takes about 2 hours, but im not sure anyone would want to do that...so much to see on the way there. In fact there are so many places to stop that it could easily take up 2 ... read more

... read more

Monday, June 5th. I hate the car. I hate the car. I hate the car. And that doesn’t even begin to explain the contempt I feel. We woke up early, YES, actually early, 6:30 to be exact. The first thing I saw was the mountains and the sun, it’s my favorite way to start the day. We were on the road about an hour later. Smither BC is located in south central BC, we drove all the way through the province and we are now in Watson Lake, which is in the Yukon Territory. Upon map questing the distance we discovered that the estimated time between the two was ALLEGEDLY 17 hours, we did it in 11 hours. Needless to say, Laura was a passing bandit. I believe that the final count on the number of ... read more

An additional entry to share a few more photos. We are currently in Willow AK at a small RV park on Willow Creek. Enjoyed the paper and some quiet evening time on the deck in classic bentwood birch chairs. Much warmer than Denali. TC fishes tomorrow for a 1/2 day trip. I plan to take a chair down to the creek (more like a small river) and enjoy the bird sounds. Hopefully no moose or bear will come along and be surprised by me. Very quiet here as the salmon aren't in yet. During salmon time it is chest to chest fisherpeople. ... read more

couldn't have started my trip out any better than to see camp in eagle river, wisconsin then go onward for a week of unbelievable fishing with my brother & son..... although it was a tough good-bye at the airport in winnipeg, manitoba. saw a black bear, some beaver, a mink, handfull of deer, a large timber wolf and dozens of eagles. the highlight being when we fed the eagles. when you see one perched atop a tree you throw a fish about 15' from the boat and they'll come swooping down and grab it with their talons. they are truly one awesome bird. spent a couple days in devils lake, nd rounding up supplies then at sullys hill animal refuge and fort totten. should be picking up echo in minot, nd at the end of the ... read more
