I find it interesting that airports have become part of corporate america. I'm sitting hear waiting for my flight to San Juan and there is an hour delay. This is the first time I have flown out of Newark Airport in a very long time. Just observing and seeing how technology and society have impacted our culture at the airports is amazing. Looking around its like rush hour in New York, Philadelphia and any other major metropolitan area. Corporate America has changed the airports of yesterday. Have made them into strip malls, with retail stores, fastfood chains, spas, private membership clubs, and much more. It all about rush hour and the impatient of society, the technology at theses places ensure that everything is out timely and precisley just like in strip malls and any other corporate ... read more

Day 37 Houston, MO to Ellington, MO Total Miles: 70.0 (2507.9miles to date) Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The rumors are true. Missouri hills are really steep and hard to ride up. If you consider the fact that it is very hot here (90+) and very humid, and there are no shoulders, and the roads are steep enough that they don’t even bother listing the grade (I felt 14%+ is accurate), then yes these are harder climbs than those out west. More different but harder still. We had an easy day lined up today so we only had some serious climbing to do at the end of the day so we could take it easy early in the day. We ended up hanging out at the Alley Spring for a few hours to allow it to cool ... read more

Right..... so I am in Wyoming!!! INSANE I Know!!! as the plane circled the town i coulden't help but wonder what a city girl like myself was doing visiting a town that seemed helpless in the middle of the vast desert! When I got off the plane a good friend of mine from Whitworth was there to greet me along with some huge gusts of wind... The wind here is absolutly insane.... and there is loads of real live (well more so dead) tumble weed!!!! how totaly wild west!!! Anyways... Alicia took me around town and showed me the sites... I was actually surprised to see that Cody is a pretty substantial town... I am attepting to withold judgement untill i spend some more time here... We made home made ice cream the first night here ... read more

Friday Walked on the beach again this morning. No camera this time. Just me and the dogs. Part of my regular routine - a long walk on the beach wearing whatever I slept in, and then come back to the cabana for some cafe' con leche and to rinse the sand off. I walked to Puerto Angel again. Spent 30 pesos (less than 3 dollars) to use the internet and check my email. The only problem I had was trying to type the @ sign - it's on the Q key and I couldn't figure out how to make it - ctrl, alt, shift - tried all combinations. Finally I just cut & pasted it! On my way back toward Zipolite, I decided to wait for Derek to go home for siesta. I sat on the ... read more

This blog is all about WILDLIFE!!!! between the three of us we took about 600 photos on the trip (thank god for digital cameras) but don't worry we couldn't fit them all ..... so only up loaded the good ones! Jan (Mel's mum) came over to visit and the next day we headed up to Anchorage in Alaska. The flight left Vancouver in the evening and we didn't get to Anchorage till after midnight, flying in over the snow and mountains which surrounded the city was a fabulous introduction to the "Land of the Midnight Sun!" as it truly was still light when we arrived. We picked up a hire care and headed to our hotel to crash! The next day we headed south to Seward (a small fishing village) where we took a 6 hour ... read more

"Life is Like a Mirror, Face it Smilng and it will Smile back at you"----I have really tried hard to live by this and I have found it to be very true. Your mindset really does impact your thoughts and reactions to the days events. If I look at the glass half empty when I wake up in the morning, I tend to have a bad day. If the glass is half full when I wake up in the morning, I generally have an awesome day. The issue is that some days it really is harder than other days to keep that positive mindset, throuughout the entire day! By the end of the workday on Friday, of a very long week it is nearly impossible. However the weekend is here, and I will be regenerated and ... read more

Okay so last Saturday, I woke up and looked around. I managed to get up. Johan and I ate breakfast, though mine was just a banana. Then, Robin and Mia met us and we all got in the car. We all left for the airport, complete with Fuzzy my stuffed teddy bear, my suitcases, and my backpack. We got to the airport, then they went through baggage with me and through to the gate. I hugged everyone goodbye. I almost cried, but I managed to control myself somehow. On the plane from Lulea to Stockholm, I had breakfast. Yay for Swedish milk, lingonberry yogurt, and bregot (butter). I sat next to a nice German businessman. So then I got to Stockholm. Even though I tried, I didn't see the wooden horses Sweden is famous for. So ... read more

So after a fairly tearfull send off last Friday we left Heathrow on an 11 hour flight to Mexico City. After lording it in the celubrious VIP Lounge (courtesy of Uncle Bob and Tess! Thanks!) and with a heady mix of Martini´s, Red wine and Diazapam in our bodies (well, mainly Stu´s) we settled into a crappy flight of cloud, turbulence and Stu sraping the enamel off the handrail every time someone coughed! Get Mexico City, and guess what? Its raining! Absolutely massive city from what we can see from the approach on the flight. Just urban sprawl as far as the eye can see. So after getting our head down in one of the airport hotels, we jet off the following day to Cancun on the Caribbean Coast. Unfortunately, due to our budget and the ... read more

Hey All, I´ve safely arrived in Querétaro and am settling into life before classes start. I am very lucky to be within walking distance to campus and to internet cafés, the restaurant where my host mother works (Gloria), and small tiendas. I am rooming with student from Nebraska named Megan. She speaks Spanish quite well, so I´m learning a lot from her. We only speak Spanish with our house! We really made it through the airport thing well. The bus ride from Mexico City to Querétaro took almost 3 hours and was seemed very long! We arrived on campus around 10:00 and went out to eat. The restaurant was called Tacos 57 and is kind of like Chipotle, where you pick your meat and other stuffings. The toritillas are green and awesome! Then they set a ... read more

Sirs, Ma'ams: How are you? I've just dropped Caitlin off at work and am now looking forward to an afternoon's cruising around Downtown Richmond in the Miata. The seats are still wet from driving back through a downpour last night, from an outdoor concert in the Botanic Gardens . Thankfully the thunderstorm held off until "Special Ed and the Short Bus" had finished their set. It's difficult to pick out a favourite song but the highlights were definitely the dolphin chorus and the armpit solo. Wet pants seem to be a way of life here. Back on Roslyn Hills Drive, I spent a very pleasant evening sitting out on the porch under a stormy Southern sky, with the frogs croaking and the fireflies flirting, in the delightful company of a couple of chilled Newcastle Brown ales, ... read more
