Wow - one week to go. I am trying to figure out how to make a route map on this site, but it's totally confusing. I think I will have it up by tomorrow. Shopping is all done except for a US Flag and a pair of sunglasses. Still not sure how the hotel arrangements in Munich/Nuremburg will work out. Weather report for all stops next week looks great........ read more

Day 35 Pittsburg, KS to Ash Grove, MO Total Miles: 74 (2323.4mi to date) Another motel, another late start. It seems every time we get a motel and intend to just veg out and relax next to the air conditioner and watch TV we realize that we have a lot to do. We have laundry, bike tune-ups, dinner, showers, etc. and the next thing you know it is 11PM or midnight and we are still awake. This of course means that waking up the next day early is not going to happen since a good night of sleep is a necessity in a hotel. So we got our bikes tuned up and they needed it after 2000miles and I needed a new tire (it was getting worn out and cracked) and that went fine (many thanks ... read more

Wow! I can not believe that there are less than two weeks left before I leave. So far I have sent off for and received my visa. I already had a passport. I have gotten a tetanus shot and read lots of informaton on China. I started with good intentions to learn a few chinese phrases and actually found an awesome site at www.chinesepod.com. This site is out of Shanghai and has mini lessons for Mandarin Chinese which is the Chinese spoken in the areas I will be visiting, but time has gotten away from me and the most I know is "hello" and "how are you". This will allow me come across as really friendly, but that is about it. I have read many articles, some of which my students submitted, a few books and ... read more

For many of you, you'll remember the ordeal Jill and I went through in making our decision to go to Honduras. For those of you who don't know, let me fill you in... We were offered a position at a school in Monterrey, Mexico on a Thursday night. They were offering us $1400 USD/month to teach there. It's a private, catholic school where we'd be required to wear uniforms and I'd be teaching strictly English to MANY classes from preschool to grade 3. Something didn't feel right about this school and I prayed that if I was meant to be somewhere else, something else would come up. Friday morning Jill called me and told me to check my e-mail. 10 minutes later I was unsure of whether to laugh or cry. We had been offered a ... read more

My apologies to anyone reading this and hoping to find some valuable nuggets of WaDC info, but feel free to email me if you have any DC questions, as ive now lived here for 3 years. Departing for Cambodia in one week - incredibly excited for the adventure that lays ahead, but starting to get that 'hmmm...what am i forgeting to do feeling'. Maybe I need to put together a list or two (few things in life can make one feel as organized as a good list ;) Im thinking I might need to do a dry run on packing as well. Here's a great foto i took yesterday of the Romero Britto sculpture on Capitol Hill, called Squeaki Britto ... read more

Monkey and I went to a Broadway show today. Yes I actually took Monkey. Not too difficult to figure out... "Tarzan". Pretty good. No actual monkeys in the showut he humans did a pretty good job of imitating. Haven't talked a lot about the shows I've seen. Didn't think there was much interest. You tell me. Monkey did get a chance to see Phil Collins after the show. He was sort of speechless. Monkey, not Phil Collins. Monkey has been drawing lots of attention. I've actually been getting worried that somebody might seize upon the monkey idea and use him (or a sibling) in a crime. "Can you describe the Perp"?, "Yes Officer, he was wearing a black monkey on his back". We'd be dead meat. Having a difficult time uploading pix. I'll do the best ... read more

Day 1 - We did a major drive when we left Yosemite. We were planning to stop in either Barstow or Bakersfield and then continue on to Vegas, doing the drive in 2 days. However 13 ½ hours later we had made it all the way to Las Vegas! (Bakersfield and Barstow turned out to be towns not worth stopping in for any more than a burger). We had left Yosemite at 9.30am and arrived in Las Vegas at 11pm. The books on tape from Alex (who we met in Yosemite) helped to pass the time. We enjoyed the drive and it was great to get our first view of the desert. Day 2 - The next day we did the household chores such as stocking up on groceries and shopping for new sandals to go ... read more

LDS anyone? Utah was really pretty. Have been there before, but it was nice to go back. Heh, we went into the Mormon Temple and there was four of us (3 girls and 1 guy) and the guy that was working there looked at all of us and said "Good afternoon ladies!!" Hahaha how I laughed.... read more

The highlights from Vegas will be a little brief to protect the privacy of my girlfriends, though there are a couple of only in Vegas moments I can share: My schedule first morning: Wake up 6am, get on flight. Land in Vegas by 10am. At Hotel by 10:15am, at pool by 10:45, beer beer beer, leave pool at 4, take nap. Dinner, Drinks, Club. Exhausted. The club we went to Tao, is beautiful, but probably the most over packed place I’ve ever been in, full of people that were so drunk they would have never made it into a NYC club. Sloppy. On top of my being exhausted from lack of sleep, beers in the sun, and huge dinner, I left early at about 2:30am. Anyone who has ever been in a Vegas hotel can relate ... read more

My plane karma, you might have noticed, has been very bad lately. The saga continues. Today has been a rough one, as I had a last minute business trip planned to Philadelphia ON THE DAY that I am flying to Las Vegas for Beth’s bachelorette party. 12 girls, on the loose. I already had my tickets and rebooking them out of Philly would cost 600 bucks. Nope. Way too cheap for that. As I had only 15 hours til I was going to premier in a bikini, I had to forgo Philly cheese steaks ‘whiz witout’, and had salad. (yuk) So, I take a car service down to Philly bright and early, have the meeting, with salad, and take the darn car service back to Manhattan, get out of my work clothes, jump into some hoochie ... read more
