Morning light lit up half the rock opposite. Up at 5.30am. Eggy bread for breakfast. Stopped at mile 20.5 to walk up North Canyon, a narrow water-worn hole. Walked through a pool at the top to get a bit higher. Georgie Rapid was a major play spot for some - a bit too much for me at this stage in the trip. Only created by rocks in the last 10 years. Camp no 2 at 31.5 miles. No swimmers yet. After off loading and changing, went for a walk up to see some remnants of an Indain settlement, seeing some art on rocks, and a grain store up above. Saw our first "century plant" flower - the plant grows for 20 to 40 years, and then flowers with a very tall flower just once and ... read more

Distance: 7.6 miles Rating: easy-moderate One of these days, I’m just going to have to get over the high cost of living and just move up to the Boulder area. There are so many nice hiking options up there! Boulder County is one of the Front Range counties that have set aside a nice amount of land for open space parks. There are literally hundreds (if not thousands) of miles of hiking trails within the county’s borders. I guess they figured out that people like to enjoy the outdoors! Heil Valley Ranch is not what I would consider the most extraordinary destination in the Boulder area foothills, but it is definitely a pretty place. If your idea of a nice hike involves wondering through a dense pine forest, then this is the place to go. My ... read more

The documentation consisted of: birth certificates, marriage certificates, and a ‘good conduct report’ from CMPD. Once the official documentation was obtained the paperwork had to be mailed to the corresponding secretary of state to verify documents were legal. Then once the secretary of state verified the paperwork we mailed it to the Costa Rican consulate in Washington DC to verify the secretary of state signature. The good conduct report expires after 90 days from the issue date. This is the short and simple version. There were many phone calls, emails, and also a visit to the Costa Rican consulate which unexpectedly made a visit to Charlotte, NC. It was not easy to determine the above steps and even after gathering the documentation we were still unsure if this would suffice. ... read more

Howdy y'all. I'm out in the wild west now- it's been a long drive. I got to Prescott at about 8 PM last night to meet Daniel. Supposed to pick him up at a campsite just outside of town where he was hiking with some friends, so I got directions there from one of his friends in town. After some travails finding the place, I was alarmed to find no one waiting for me there. To make a long story short, they'd somehow got turned around up there in the woods, unbeknownst to me. So after much waiting and deliberation, I decided to put on my trusty headlamp and tread past the closed campsite gate and up the road into the woods to look for them. I could hear some voices in the distance, and decided ... read more

Day 8 – Monday – Boston, Massachusets Before I write up some notes about what we got up to today to answer a few questions... * BBB stands for Brides, Babies & Beyond - and that is the internet site/forum where I know all the US girls from * Yep, i've been keeping an eye on the football results and was completely stunned with the Richmond/Geelong game! Oh, and I think I won the footy tipping this week despite being away?!!! * Boston people are 1000 times nicer than NYC ones LOL * Jen is COMPLETELY amused by the same things I am (yellow cabs, yellow school busses, brown paper bags etc). I guess because Australia was a British colony huh. Ok, so Day 8 - ohhh we're in to our second week now! Hehhee. ... read more

I moved houses a couple of weeks ago into a nicer place with a cool couple called Al and Jamie. Al is such a Canadian and he certainly makes me giggle. Al has lived in Banff for 17 years and he used to plough the roads in the area. You probably couldn'e get a better tour guide for the day! We went for a boys day out in his huge Dodge Hemi. First we went to Lake Louise chateaux and its still frozen lake. A very impressive hotel on the lake which is highly regarded as one of the best places to stay in North America. Then we moved onto the Spiral Tunnels which I think is one of the most amazing pieces of engineering I have ever seen. The Trans Canadain Highway people decided ... read more

Our major excursion on Sunday was a trip to the top of the tallest man-made structure in the world - the CN Tower. Won't bore you with the details but the tallest observation deck is way up there. Pat & Geoff took the lift to the first level - in a lift with glass walls that ran up the outside of the tower travelling at 22kph - then we waited in line to travel up a further 100 m to the tallest observation point the Sky Pod (marked on the photo) Great view, but Geoff's balance was skewed and vertigo spoilt the experience somewhat. Pat was keen to step onto a glass floor and look down 350 m but didn't. GMB didn't get anywhere near it. We polished off our final day doing some window ... read more

Hi everyone, Yesterday as i am swimming around out in half moon bay, i see Redina and another woman on the beach waving me in... there was a big stingray following me around!!! Redina and i are having lots of fun here on the Yucatan peninsula... yesterday we went to look at some underground caves and rivers, and saw lots of neat animals like monkeys, snakes, bats, and wild pigs!! This morning we went snorkeling in a lagoon by the sea and there were all kinds of colourful fish swimming right around us! Hope you are all doing well, and take care, Cam & Redina... read more

Nice night of rest, I guess. CC picked the tent spot for last night. "The dry leaves will make a soft bed" but the humped ground they hid made rough sleeping. We both fought sliding one direction or the other all night. The good thing was the temp was comfortable all night long. We ate cold cereal and a Pop Tart for breakfast. One of the guys there had extra hot water and coffee, so I took a cup of his Joe. We were out of camp by 8:45AM. The plan was to only do 8.8 miles to the next shelter and hold up there until morning tomorrow and then hit town for a re-supply box. We made great time and decided to press the extra 1.7 miles to the road and hitch a ride ... read more
