It's day number... I don't really know but wake about 5am, Tuesday 8 May Ummm daylight. Des writes up the diary, wakes me and we join Mary for breakfast. Guests Jim and Lisa have arrived from Philadelphia. They decided to join us for the much anticipated (by Maree anyway) Artic Circle trip tomorrow. Breakhast is delicious but way too much... but should keep the fires buring until tea time. We wander downtown to the visitors centre where we are advised of local attractions and how to get there. After some discussion of possibilities we make a scramble back down a few blocks to the bus terminal -- our distination Fairbanks University where the museum is located. En route of notice apart from the thrid world look of the place (junk everywhere) is the piles of ... read more

Tunnel Mountain,Lake Minnewanka and Hoodoos North America » Canada » Alberta » Banff By JPSTEWARTMay 8th 2007John-Patrick Stewart Dan and I decided to climb Tunnel mountain which gives awesome views to the surronding mountains in the Bow Valley. Its not a very big mountain at all but the other nountains in the area are still to dangerous to climb. I'd love to climb Mt Rundle or Cascade but it's not advisable at all until at least the middle of June. We still had a great day up there though and the views were still amazing. To tip it off we were sitting near a cliff and a bald heade... read more

The longer (size and time) bus takes 8 hours and leaves Puerto Escondido at 22.15pm from the old bus station, which we got to just in time. Stu sat with the bags, I went to check in but we had somehow come to the wrong place. The informant grabbed my hand and in a blind panic we both sprinted 10 ft to the left which was then the right place. Its ok if you miss this bus, like three separate sets of people did that night, they all individually tail gated the coach by speeding taxi, the coach stopped and let them all on at various points on route. The bus journey was similar to being in the Apollo programme, we took off with the force of a solid rocket booster as we thrusted up hills ... read more

Pics for April 24th North America » United States » Virginia » Shanendoah National Park By OD and CCs Long WalkMay 7th 2007We are trying something new here. Instead of going back and attaching pictures to the journal entries they represent, I am going to put a new entry just for the pictures. It will be easier to go back and read the entry for the matching day than to continually look around for new pictures. So here is the first attempt at making it easier for you, the reader.... read more

A weekend has just passed and I have no climbing photos to show for it! :O No talk of granite, slab, cracks or corners. No new jamming techniques to discuss. No scratches or bruises to show. How will I get through the week? Tehehe. Actually, the last time we went climbing, my newly founded love of cracks took a bit of a beating. We did a climb that I found excruciatingly painful, to the point of tears. Apparently the shoes I have been wearing (Five Ten Anasazi lace ups) are one of the worst for crack climbing, and to use MEC’s words, they make cracks “exquisitely painful”. I inherited these shoes from a friend with bigger feet than me, and I think she was doing multi pitch crack routes in Europe in them! She is ... read more

Wow - I feel like I'm on vacation already....perhaps I didn't need to take over two full weeks off of work prior to leaving? I think this time is just giving me more opportunity to over think things and scare myself - and no, for the last time I am NOT watching Tourista or Hostel - thanks for asking! Midnight express was enough, thanks dad...good thing I didn't have any plans on smuggling Hashish out of Turkey! Despite having all of this time off, I managed to be so preoccupied last week what with moving out of the BSMT suite and To Do Lists that I was able to back into my mom's taurus (that will never die) and take out her entire door with my rear tail light, including her window......while leaving my grandparents ... read more

What can I say...New York certainly does not dissapoint! New York was definitely our favourite city in the whole of the States! There are so many things to do, and every different part we saw is just so different - and that's without leaving Manhattan Island! We arrived at La Guardia airport and caught a bus to Harlem and had our first experience of the New York Subway into Chelsea where we were staying. The Subway is just great...so easy to use and you can go everywhere. And the whole time we were there, we only got on one train that was like a sardine can. The rest were just like catching a train in Melbourne. So we arrived in Chelsea and didn't think all that much of it, but once we got walking around ... read more

We flew back to LA this morning at 8am so another early start but it meant we had a full day in LA. When we landed in LA we attempted to hire a car for the day as our tour guide on the LA city tour had told us we could get 1 for $40. Why did we believe a guy who thinks he's best mates with all the stars?! all the car companies wanted at least $70 - so the bus it had to be. After another trip to Dennys to feast on a giant breakfast we got the bus to Santa Monica beach. 75 cents on the bus so an absolute bagin. The weather was really hot today so perfect weather to sunbathe and chill with the beautiful people on the beach. We ... read more
