HELLO TO ALL IN GEORGIA WELL THIS HAS REALLY BEEN A JOURNEY. WE HAVE SEEN SOME BEAUTIFUL PLACES. WE HAVE ALSO SEEN SNOW, FROZEN LAKES, SNOW, RAIN, HAIL, SNOW AND MORE SNOW. WE HAVE BEEN HAULED IN ON A ROLLBACK, LOST OUR MUFFLER AND CAN NOT GET OUR DISH TO WORK. THE SIGNAL IS SO FAR DOWN THAT IT WON'T GO THAT LOW. WE HAVE BOUGHT ONE TO PUT ON THE GROUND. HOPE IT WILL WORK. HAVEN'T TRIED YET. WE ARRIVED IN TOK, ALASKA LAST NIGHT ABOUT 6:00P.M. ALASKA TIME. IT WAS QUITE A RIDE. THE ALASKA HIGHWAY IS INTERESTING. APRIL 29, 2007 My intention for the Big Sur 21 Miler was to have fun, experience the beauty and majesty of the scenery and nature that this course is famous for. I woke up at the ungodly hour of 3:50AM (anything with a 3 in it is sleepy time in my opinion…). All the race participants - marathoners, 21 mile power walkers, 10 milers alike - prepared to board the bus and take the hour long ride to the start line. The course hugs the California coast with its 2 lane highway introducing us to expansive ocean views, cliffs with neighboring flower fields and fog-filled head winds. We went to see a Fred Herzog exhibition at the Vancouver art gallery on Tuesday night, which is, incidentally CHEAP Tuesday. I love that even art galleries and museums prescribe to cheap Tuesday’s here. We plan to go to the museum of anthropology next Tuesday ;-) I digress. So, yeah, we went to see the Fred Herzog exhibition. For those of you who do not know, he is a Vancouver-based photographer, who specialises in taking documentary-type photo’s of the city as he sees it and using vibrant colour. His work just captures the ugliness, chaos and beauty of the city perfectly. Nothing staged or pretentious, but everything suddenly looked like art - neon signs, advertising banners and posters, litter, people, building fronts, skylines, cars … the way he just captured and framed the world around ... read more

Hey all, sorry for taking so long at gettin these on here but has been a little hectic at my end. Have moved out into a house just near where i was living before at the hostel so been busy tryin to get that organised plus workin 4 days a week and then Ken (AFS boss) has just piled a whole lot of work on me so yeah, just a little crazy at the moment. Its currently 4am & i dont quite know why i am still up considering i worked all day yesterday however i do have the day off today so will enjoy the sleep in... what i get of it anyways. Lots to do. Returned from Valladolid this afternoon and glad to get back. It's hot there! And we were working 11 and 12 hr days so the hotel restraurant with cold beers (only til 10 mind you) was all I got to do. I can suck down a lot of SOLs between 7:30 pm and 10:00 pm ! I took a couple of pictures of the hotel with the new cheap digital and either it has suntan oil from a time when I opened the package or it's just out of focus, but nevertheless I'll attach some pics. No, Mitch, I am NOT spending big bucks for a real digital til I can manage a throwaway! Little info: You cannot sell beer/liquor before 11 am (no hard liquor at all on Sundays), and cannot sell it except in ... read more

Moab itself is a cool little town; one of those that doesn't allow walmart or mcdonalds to move in. It's also filled with offroading jeeps, mountain bikers, and students from a University of Utah branch. Arches is about 2 miles from town, so we camped in Moab and drove up to Arches every day. We hiked in the park for 2 1/2 days, a total of 14.5 miles. The weather was beautiful, but hot! It was about 97 degrees midday. whew! And now, your geology lesson. Day 9 – Tuesday – Niagara Falls, New York Well, a little over a week in to our holiday...and we had our first big day of driving. Thankfully John has it down to a fine art (bloody Americans on the wrong side of the road!) and Jen is a great navigator. We did hit a little traffic on the way out of Boston (man they have some DUMB freeways where vehicles are both entering AND exiting right near each other and literally crossing over each other) and we did get some roadworks....but all in all it was a fun enough day considering. Now, for those of you that don't know.......and I didn't......Yosemite is a national park, based around an impressive glacial valley, and home to the world's 5th largest waterfall. The bus ride was relatively uneventful....ooohh except for some WEIRD coincidences. There were 4 of us on the trip and the 2 strangers were british guys. I got chatting to them and quickly discovered that they were from near Bristol (something Jen often said) Living in Wotton Under Edge Bristol is the safest bet for people actually recognising it! Further chat revealed that they too were from Wotton, and even more scarily from Charfield (Jen's little village!) And that they knew of her!
