Arrived on Kodiak Island via ferry on Saturday, May 5. Had camped at Homer and were ready to embark at 8 in the morning. Homer is a small town with a MacDonalds and a Wal-mart. The truck stopped at the beach. Warm bathrooms with flush toilets and hot water were available. Only thing ....you had to know well in advance of a bathroom performance of either kind because it took a trek to get there and there was no cover on the beach to do a "thing". Of course during the night I just had to do the thing beside the truck tire! Along the beach were small shops jst like the Popeye movie. None were open because the season had not yet started. Met a halibut fisher. He had just gutted and filleted a ... read more

After a hectic first few weeks here I have not really done anything this week other than take in the scenery, wonder along the sunny sections of street to work and back and watch movies in the evenings. When I am not swimming in the pool or thinking about making my way down to the gym. This has not just transformed from thinking about it into actually going down to use it. During my wonderings I have found a great arts centre, that I can see from the balcony where I can do a selection of, learning how to blow my own glass, In a day, to throwing and firing my own pots followed by decorating the said pot and onto designing jewelry after one weekend you are supposed to come out with a ring, ... read more

It’s been a while since my last blog because the last couple of weeks have been busier than ever (I know I always say that, but it’s true!). The main adventure since the last blog was going to Chiapas for a week with our group, minus our anthropology professor who is still extremely ill (I’ll get to that later). Chiapas is the southernmost and poorest state in Mexico. Though it borders Oaxaca, the climate and terrain are very different. It has a very large indigenous population, mostly Mayan, which is mainly what we studied while we were there. Chiapas is also known for its political problems. Since 1994 the Zapatista rebels have been fighting for land reform and other rights for the indigenous people. Despite being sick with food poisoning, I began the trip began ... read more

I have just heard that the temperature should get into the 100s by Thursday. I am intrigued to see how that feels, but with my track record at dealing with extreme weather I'll probably suffer for my curiousity. Still, at least the pool should heat up lots. (think it's in the 90s at the moment, so it's hardly cold but I've been told you definitely feel the difference when it hits 100) It's only midday at the moment, and we haven't done anything too exciting really. I do have some picture to put up though, because we took Chills and Chevy out for a walk.... read more

New York, d.8. maj 2007. Waauu, waauu og atter waauu, at vågne op i New York, "the City that never sleeps", det er bare noget, der virkelig rykker!! Avenue lige ... read more

It's day number... I don't really know but wake about 5am, Tuesday 8 May Ummm daylight. Des writes up the diary, wakes me and we join Mary for breakfast. Guests Jim and Lisa have arrived from Philadelphia. They decided to join us for the much anticipated (by Maree anyway) Artic Circle trip tomorrow. Breakhast is delicious but way too much... but should keep the fires buring until tea time. We wander downtown to the visitors centre where we are advised of local attractions and how to get there. After some discussion of possibilities we make a scramble back down a few blocks to the bus terminal -- our distination Fairbanks University where the museum is located. En route of notice apart from the thrid world look of the place (junk everywhere) is the piles of ... read more
