Morning light lit up half the rock opposite. Up at 5.30am. Eggy bread for breakfast. Stopped at mile 20.5 to walk up North Canyon, a narrow water-worn hole. Walked through a pool at the top to get a bit higher. Georgie Rapid was a major play spot for some - a bit too much for me at this stage in the trip. Only created by rocks in the last 10 years. Camp no 2 at 31.5 miles. No swimmers yet.

After off loading and changing, went for a walk up to see some remnants of an Indain settlement, seeing some art on rocks, and a grain store up above. Saw our first "century plant" flower - the plant grows for 20 to 40 years, and then flowers with a very tall flower just once and dies. Asked by guide Phil to "krypto-tiptoe" - follow in line and keep to the path, to avoid destroying the very slow start of vegetation over the sand.
