I'm just going to say, I cannot believe NOBODY told me about the crazy fucking rain in this city! One minute it's hot, humid as all get out and the sky is clear as can be. The next minute the sky breaks open over your head, hard, and there is full-on lightning and thunder. Normally the sound of rain and thunder lulls me to a deep and peaceful sleep but the thunder out here is just INSANE. Nightmare inducing loud. Never in my life.... Anyhow, after the Red Rock experience from the night before, Rose and I wanted a good, heavy breakfast yesterday morning. Steve Tynan told me to check out a little place called Good Enough to Eat on the Upper West Side. Oh glorious, glorious sustenance! I ordered the migas scrambled eggs (tortilla chip ... read more

Hello! Thank you for the lovely comments, made me smile in the Keene state college library. Saturday night we had our camp fire which was fun... I was tribe chief for the green team. So the Kids arrived on Sunday... Two of them took trunks which are twice the size of them and guess who had to sort them out.. I quote one child 'ooh, you took fruit loops?' 'Yeah, my Mom gave them to me incase I get home sick...' She's the only kid I'm having trouble with, refusing to eat and saying she wants to go home after every fun activity. The other 3 are good, one is Tanya's sister so she gives me no grief and the other two are good kids. We had the counsellor show on Sunday night for them which ... read more

Bahamas North America » United States » North Dakota » Grand Forks By PinkphoenixJune 28th 2007 For my graduation trip, I was able to go on a fantastic cruise to the Bahamas with my daddy! This trip was eventful, and I was able to meet a lot of great people, as well as just go out and have fun. The island of the Bahamas in Nassau was very hot, busy, and was a learning experience. I had to go back to my "small-town" roots and try to remember that big cities are different. I was able to tour the city using a horse and buggy and everything was pink!!! The 3-4 day at Sea we encount... read more

Got up late again and the weather was really steaming up. About 94 degrees US which is prob about 35C and humid. The locals say that we are in for a huge storm. We headed down to the theatre district after visiting the laundromat. Really cheap here to get your laundry done. We were glad to go inside in the air cond to see Mama Mia on Broadway. Wow it was fantastic. The best musical, theatre, drama, comedy i have ever seen. We had great tickets, 3rd row and it was worth every cent. It went for 2 and one half hours. One of the characters was supposed to be an outback Aussie bloke. His accent was that bad that the kids were unaware he was meant to be an Aussie until we told them ... read more

Morning, all! Another quick entry 'cuz I'm on my way out to "pop in" on some friends, literally! Lotsa times I don't like to call anyone, and/or schedule times to meet up - I show up. It's more fun that way, for me anyway! :) Still at UT's, and let me quickly fill you all in on the whole trip's itinerary: I'm here at UT's till 4th of July... July 5 - July 12 - London/England - will go visit my sweet, 94-year old Aunt Brigid outside London, and as well, I hope to hook up with my cousin Rosemarie/her family. Day 10 On our way to Vegas! The interstate through Arizona is gorgeous! Just passed by a van for Robot Rooter “We’re #1 in the #2 business” Whoo hoo! Nevada! And, we just gained an hour! We’ll get to our campsite at 9:30. As soon as we crossed the border, there was a casino. Kind of like Wheeling.  Mandie : “Look at their state route signs. They look like thought bubbles!” Benji: “Hun, that’s the shape of their state..” VIVA LAS VEGAS! We decided to park at the campsite and ride the bus downtown. $2.50 for an all day pass. Thank you to the locals who told us how to get passes. They were very nice. We also saw the Vegas version of Moon Dog. Anyway, we got on the bus and headed to ... read more

Day 17 So, last night was an adventure. We had severe thunderstorm warnings with high wind damage possibilities. 50 mph winds with gusts up to 70mph. The camper was rocking and we heard something in the bathroom. Opening the door, we saw that the wind had ripped off our vent. After stopping to purchase some souvenirs, we bought a new vent. When Benji went to install our new vent, he realized it didn’t fit and we headed back to the store. Mike called us. It was nice to hear from him. But his news wasn’t good. There’s major flooding in the area we’re headed into. And, he told us we left a shirt, sock, and our garbage can. We knew about the can and sock. Loooong day. Lots of driving. And, like always, my phone ... read more

Beautomous! Made it in to camp late, got situated and was sent to sleep to the song of whipporwhils! Couldn't ask for more! Fantastic day hiking at Hawn! Lots of wild azaleas up on the glade! Woods are gorgeous and the storms lovely. Onwards in the rain to Eric's farm outside of Columbia. 76 miles to go! Perhaps stop at Flat Branch for a beer and maybe take the River road to his place and catch up with old friends! ***************************************************************** I would meet you anywhere, western sun meets the air, hit the road, never looking behind. ~Son Volt ... read more

Travel so farI want to start by mentioning one thing I forgot yesterday, which is that it is about 94 degrees here plus the humidity here in Washington, D.C. Let's just say its airconditioning is a necessity...Today was very full day of activities. We started by meeting for breakfast and then beginning with a three hour meeting, which included introductions, expectations, and overview of the Fulbright program. We then had lunch and headed to the Woodrow Wilson Center (The only president with a Ph.D) for a meeting and lecture on Canada and Mexico in relation to the United States. One of the speakers by the last name of Wentraub, was one of the creators of NAFTA. His perspective on North American relations gave an optimistic view of the future of the three countries working together. The ... read more

Door County sure lived up to the hype as a top vacation destination today. What a fantastic day I had exploring. Today was like a fall day, bright, sunny but crisp. I don’t think it got above 65 all day and was windy. I went to two State Parks, two County Parks, two wineries, and two lighthouses. Of course I saw lots of great barns and other things along the way as well. I visited Cave Point County Park followed by Whitefish Dunes State Park. What a dramatic and stark contrast less than one mile apart on the Lake Michigan shoreline. Cave Point has rocks, bluffs and caves which have been carved out over the years by constant waves. You go right around the point and end up on a sandy white beach in the ... read more
