Hi there again! Okay, so here it is- the first entry from the U.S.! I got to Camp on Saturday, after the night in New York and a hideous journey of delays and discomfort on the way over. It's all still pretty overwhelming in some ways, it's a huge place, and there are so many new names and faces that I'm trying to get to grips with... plus I'm learning that not all people totally understand my own personal brand of "humour"... in fact some people here seem to be quite humourLess... hehe! But most people so far seem awesome, and lovely. The kids actually get here on Saturday, so this week is gonna be one of orientation, and the whole "getting to know you thing" (as well as giving me the chance to get to ... read more

DAY 3 We got up after a wonderful nine hours of sleep. I don't get nine of sleep at home! Vacations rule! We showered then went to eat at the English pub from last night, gassed up the van and hit the road all by 11:30. The drive from Harrisburg to Washington DC, if measured in Propagandhi albums, takes all of How to Clean Everything, Less Talk More Rock and most of Today's Empires Tomorrow's Ashes. I did switch to Municipal Waste when I saw the semi though. DC was hot. Hot. Hot. Turned out to be 94 with little wind. Since this was my first time to DC I wasn't sure where you could park, so I did what I normally do. I panicked and parked in the first lot I found. We parked by ... read more

Woke up to a cool and windy morning. First stop was Mt. Rushmore. Arrived at 7:45 AM so it wasn’t very crowded when we got there. Very impressive. The Presidents are viewed from a patio and there is a short walk that goes closer. Did hear a quote of the day; man walked up to a Park Ranger on the patio and said, “Where’s the rest?” I didn’t hear the Ranger’s reply. On the way to Custer State Park we took the scenic road through the Black Hills; a twisting, narrow mountain road (Frank drove this one). The road is famous for it’s narrow tunnels. We went through several with no problem, but decided to forego the two where CT only had a couple of inches clearance width or length wise. We spent the night ... read more

The drive to Lubbock, Texas proved to be more eventful than we had anticipated. It started out fine, as we drove along long roads that seemed to go on forever. Seriously, there is nothing for miles and miles, and the land is so flat. You can look out in every direction and see the land meet the sky. It really feels like you can look out onto the horizon forever. We stopped at a small burger joint in Amarillo, Texas. The place was filled mostly with locals, but we were pleased with the good food at a low price. We then got back on the road with only a short two hours left on the drive. Only an hour outside of Lubbock, and with Allison at the wheel, we heard another “gug-gug-gug” coming from the rear ... read more

June 16, 2007 - We’re at Olympic National park in NW Washington for four nights…it’s really remote and beautiful here. More about Washington in a minute but first some random thoughts and observations about Oregon: Oregon is great, the scenery is fantastic. We spent a couple of weeks among 4 coastal state parks and one inland park and enjoyed them all. Oregon is very liberal and ecology minded; the entire coast is public land, there are no private beaches, there’s no sales tax; they don’t put any fluoride in the water, at the campgrounds the trash dumps have bins labeled (no kidding) clear glass, brown glass, green glass, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, newsprint, cardboard and finally Trash!! You’re not allowed to pump your own gas (I’m serious). There are little drive thru Expresso stands on ... read more

So the reality of the cruise ending was a little harder for mumsy... but it still sucked having to go back to eating and sleeping cheaply!!! Anchorage was our first stop... this is the biggest city in Alaska and well to say the least we didnt really enjoy it.... we only stayed 2 nights and were off to Denali NP! Here wqe stayed in the cutest hostel right on the river... there was an awesome bunch of people there and the nights (that were not dark) were spent round a campfire or chatting to the groovy people staying there!!! The fact that it never got completley dark took a while to get use to... your body doesnt feel tired cause the sun is still shining at 11.30 at night???????????????????????? We went to Denali NP the ... read more

...So...continuing where I left off last...we made it to this guy's house, where he had told us to meet him. It was a pretty suburban place, about 60 miles north of Houston. We get there after riding 18 or so miles with my wheel wobbling all over the place and he informs us that we're going to have to go wait because he has to go open his bike shop and he can help us with my wheel only after he gets done with work because he doesn't have any *spokes* at his BIKE SHOP. Very puzzling. And why wouldn't he let us come to his bike shop for a bike repair??? Also very weird. He seemed slightly annoyed that we were there, and went on to tell us how he doesn't have anything to do ... read more

The Royce Adventure Father's Day in Memphis. The kids say that Dad is king today; not Elvis. We've driven the approximate 400 miles across Tennessee but it took us a day longer than planned. Some RV troubles -- a generator acting up and then a blown tire (one of eight on this thing) -- brought us to Mark's new favorite store -- Camping World outside of Knoxville and then a truck repair shop in Nashville. We were a little depressed last night, but a couple of drinks and a plan to get to Memphis and just hang out for the night instead of driving more made today pretty good. That, and staying at a campground near Bucher Hollar. The kids were great. Going to Graceland late on a Sunday was perfect with no crowds at all. ... read more

Hey, so sorry it's been so long since we've updated anything. We've hit some bumps in the road since we last wrote, but things have been pretty great since we got to New Orleans. When we first got here and didn't know where we were gonna stay we went to the library, paid $3 to use the computer...stewy wrote paragraph after paragraph and then when he went to publish the server crashed. So we got to Austin just before my birthday, and it was a really great time. After we left we kept asking ourselves why we even did so. Stewy's friend Ben put us up in his guest trailer in possibly the coolest house I've ever seen. I guess it was an artist who got a grant to buy two lots and make all these ... read more
