Another day in the Grand Canyon and time for a hike. Emiko drove us into the park and we then spilt up into our groups as some where going to attempt the 12 mile all around hike, while us others choose the smaller version. We got 2 buses to the start of the Trail and it was still early morning and not to hot. It was down hill first then you had to struggle to make your way back up (which I knew I would with my knees). All of us were fine going down and it didn't take to long, we sat down there for a little bit and took some photos before making the climb back up. Allot more people were starting to come down the trail and also head back up. I ... read more

DAY 1 There isn't a lot to say about the first day since we left home at 7 pm. Home for us is an eastern suburb of the Twin Cities in Minnesota. Which reminds me, I should let you know who we are and what we're doing. My name is Jaimy and I'll be traveling with my wife and three kids. The kids are a 12 year old girl, a 7 year old boy and a 9 month old girl. We are heading out for 2 weeks of travel in the minivan to the New England States. So, we're off at 7 PM on Saturday June 16th after I was at work for most of the day. The plan is to drive straight through to Hershey, PA and the Hershey World Factory Tour. That should be ... read more

We head east on Interstate 80, exit 235 onto WY130 to Saratoga, then follow WY130 to Wyoming Centennial National Scenic Byway, passing through Saratoga, Ryan Park and Centennial to Laramie. There are several hiking trails around the Byway, including a trail up to Medicine Bow Peak, at 12,013 feet it is the highest point in the Medicine Bow Forest and it’s adjacent to the Byway. A trip along the Snowy Range Scenic Byway is a must if you visit south east Wyoming! It’s a glorious day, with glorious views and hardly a soul in sight. We were disappointed with Laramie. Admittedly it was a Sunday so the town was dead, much like some westerns. Our motel, a new Days Inn was conveniently near I80 but quiet and clean and there was a good enough eating place ... read more

After a one hour flight away from LA, and were in the gambling capital of the world, Las Vegas. Firstly it's everything you've ever thought it would be and then some, every thing is supersized from the meals to the casinos and hotels. It takes 10 minutes for us to walk to our room when we enter the hotel complex, and we're in one of the smaller hotels. Well we only had three nights here and wanted to do so much, but i think we managed to pack it all in. when we first got there we were just tired and wanted some airconditioning (temp was around 107f) so we took it easy and planned out our 2 full days. Our first morning in vegas was spent walking along the strip going into every hotel and ... read more

June 15th: Anchorage is no more my favorite place in Alaska. I had no clue that the city was so crowded. Traffic bottlenecks everywhere. We were so glad that we were only passing by to get to Parks highway(highway 3). And did I mention it was hot? Boy, it was unbearable. Parks Highway(Highway 3) : Wasilla is a major city & you can find everything from a Home Depot to a Walmart here. The road is pretty much straight with grades here & there. Hatcher pass road is mostly unpaved & has good hiking trails/ATV riding & para gliding options, but was closed today. Still very hot! We hunted for shade for our picnic lunch & finally managed a small piece near a creek. We could see the gas prices hike up further we were from ... read more

Greetings from New Orleans, Louisiana! Less than 48 hours from our mission travel to Liberia in West Africa, I headed down to New Orleans with Halef. We flew into Gulfport/Biloxi, Mississippi, within 40 minutes driving from the New Orleans city center, and stayed over Hilton Riverside in the French Quarter. We spent most of our Saturday in the French Quarter, checking out the St. Louis cathedral (the oldest, continuous operating cathedral in North America), St. Louis cemetery number One where Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau was buried, and Café du Monde for its famous beignet. It was a fun time, as usual, knowing that the city will thrive after the devastating Hurricane Katrina two years ago. We closed out the night with some Mardi Gras celebration, as everyday is Mardi Gras in New Orleans. We flew out ... read more

We spent 2 days at Freightliner in Gaffney, SC, to have the Winnebago's oil changed and a 4-wheel alignment. $500 later we were good to go and headed to the East Coast. We "dry camped" in a church (founded 1812) parking lot, with their permission at Swan Quarter, NC. After I took a sea sick pill we put the rig on the Ocracoke Ferry at 6:30 a.m. and headed to the Outer Banks. Tom was loving the ferry ride. Cape Hatteras was quite a history lesson. The litehouse was moved in 2003 due to hurricanes eroding her previous location. She is safe for another 100 years. Ocracoke beach was rated #1 in country for 2006. Visited the Wright Brothers Museum and for Father's Day went kyaking. Life is good. ... read more
