Saturday September 27, 2008 Thursday it was time to move on to warmer climes. Santa Fe was on our list, as was art by Georgia O’Keeffe. In our new Pitt Meadows home, there are two fireplace walls just waiting for special decoration and one of our ‘must do’s’ on this trip was to find some southwestern art. Santa Fe is famous as an artist haven, and it more than lived up to the reputation. We approached Santa Fe from the north on highway 84. Little did we know that when Kayla called several halts on the highway just north of Santa Fe to take photos of the glorious layered cliffs and spires, we were also photographing Georgia O’Keeffe’s home at Ghost Ranch. Right away we recognized the photos of Ghost Ranch taken by others, some of ... read more

Here are a few pictures and videos from a short trip to Oahu with friends last week. Ingrid and Jim (friends from Sacramento) and Ingrid's brother Mark (from Annapolis) and I all met up in Oahu at Bellows AFS for a few days. Jim went diving every day while Ingrid and I hung out at the beach. Mark had to spend a few days at the Marine Corps Base at Kane'ohe Bay. Fortunately his nights were free...we all had a great time. Nothing really beats Hawaii with friends. Bellows AFS is on the East side of Oahu, quite a distance from Waikiki Beach and Honolulu. I recommend a visit to Waikiki, if for no other reason than to say you've been there, but I would never want to spend a great deal of time on Waikiki...there ... read more

G'day all, well the blog's falling a little behind so we'll try to bring you up to speed with more photo's and less writing. San Fran was a cool place, was a lot more laid back and friendly than LA, except with lot's more homeless people. Apparently the city makes an effort not to move them away so that's why you see a lot more, but they were all cool and and no problems. San Fran was also the only place in the US where we had to get out the jeans and jumpers. When we drove into the city from Yosemite it was just like you see in the movies, we drove over the bay bridge and all we cold see was the road and above, everything under the bridge was covered in Fog. We ... read more

We had read an article about Crater Lake in one of our RV magazines about 8 years ago and had decided definitely to put it on our “bucket list.” Thursday was my day to add to my bucket. I am staying in La Pine which is at + 4000’ elevation. I don’t know what I was expecting, certainly not what I found. The land around the park is very flat so the first thing I saw when I got in was the Pumice Desert. Then I started to climb until my ears started to “pop.” There was a scenic overlook pull in and a lot of people were there so I drove in - then gasped. This has to be one of the most beautiful places in this country. According to the info I received “The ... read more

What a bittersweet day--the last day of the build. Even though I'm blogging this on Saturday at the Biloxi airport, I want to share our experiences on the job site on Friday and our last evening in Biloxi. It truly was a bittersweet day as we worked hard to achieve all we could. And that was a lot. We almost completed the nailing of the sheeting to the house--only about 20 nails left on one wall and about a quarter of the back wall. That was a lot of nails--especially on the last day when we ran out of the "good" nails--ones that we thought were better--to aluminum nails that caused many of us to pound three nails for every one that actually went into the wall. We learned the art of patience as we hammered. ... read more

Sept 27th My hopes of getting off to a flyer by 7.15 are dashed when I discover the trailer has a flat ( was I riding with that yesterday ?) I change the tube - thankfully I bought a new one in Aguila- and get away at 8.00 as usual. The wind is not against me for a change and over the first 15 miles I am flying , average speed 13mph ! I had a huge energy drink, one litre, and at 10am a small super concentrated energy potion, loads o caffiene! and cover 30 miles by mid- day with no food and few stops and even a slight wind against in the later stages. At starbucks in 'Surprise' on the outskirts of Phoenix I decide to do another 10 miles and stop at a ... read more

Hey It is still hot here in AZ - still high 30’s during the day and doesn’t go down that much at night. My uncle gets up at 5 am and then he had to go to a seminar so we didn’t see him til the afternoon. My aunt got up at approx. 8:30 am. I think Don & I got up at 10 am? I made Don carry me into the house yesterday as I thought there was this ginormous bug that was hopping from garage to next wall. But it turns out it’s all little lizards and geckos. They are everywhere. Which, for some reason, I don’t mind little lizards. However, Don hates all reptiles :) I keep trying to get a picture of the lizards, but they run away as soon as you ... read more
