Today we made our way to Zion National Park. We arrived at our hotel in Hurricane before 2pm, so we spent the afternoon and evening at Zion National Park. They have this great service at Zion where there is a free shuttle that takes you into the park and to all the different stops in the park, and it leaves roughly every 7 minutes. One of the stops was called Weeping Rock. This is a place where the water is just seeping out of the rock, and it looks and feels like it's raining when you're under it. This water has been in the rock for thousands of years before it makes its way out. Because of this water, there is a lot of greenery in the canyon, which is odd because we're in the middle ... read more

Initially, this long weekend trip to Zion was supposed to be with a group of friends. Since none of them were able to make it, I changed it to a family camping weekend. My mom, sister, and her boyfriend all came along. For my mom, this would be her first camping experience. It will be quite interesting to see how well she deals with it. I picked up our rental car for the weekend; a Chevy HHD, on Friday after work. After packing up all our camping supplies, food, and personal belongings, there was barely enough room for the 4 of us! The trunk was packed all the way up to the roof of the car blocking my view out the rear-view mirror. The plan was to drive through the night in order to arrive in ... read more

Die Aussicht ist at... read more

I am falling behind on my blogs! I take so many pictures during the day that it takes quite a while to go through them all to decide what to upload. So rather than make it "perfect" I will put in an update now with more to follow later on. I spent the last day in the Sedona area on a hike but started the day at Airport Mesa at a view point. There is a picture here from that viewpoint - I climbed all the way up on this rock but was not quite brave enough to go all the way to the top... this view is looking out on the Bell formation, the Courthouse and I think it is also the Cathedral (from the other side) and another that I don't quite remember. I ... read more

August 1st Williams, AZ to Kanab,UT This was a driving day. We took our time getting up, mozying around, readying the RV and taking off for Utah. Our goal tomorrow is to hike Zion National Park. We decided to treat ourselves and stay in a hotel for the night. Not sure how much of a treat it was- it was a Roadway Inn. The girl said she'd give us a good deal. It was the room with the big TV but the TV wasn't working so we'd have to use the little TV! So that's what we did, but it was clean and had a nice shower so it was all good. We walked the town that night. Had beer and an appetizer at a cowboy bar surrounded by Europeans! It is amazing how many Europeans ... read more

As we descended from the Grand Canyon rim in the early evening we could gradually feel the heat rising incrementally. It soon felt as though we were descending into an inferno. We stopped at a little spot on the road called Cameron. It is on the Navajo Reservation. It was too hot to contemplate sleeping outdoors so Beth and I opted for a night of AC and an actual bed. The next morning we headed off toward Page and toward Zion National Park. The desert formations and colors are amazing. The heat was steadily climbing as we descended down even further toward Page and the Lake Powell. Vincenzo observed that perhaps winter would be a good time to visit this area….ha ha ha ha…Vincenzo is a fast learner! We stopped at, where else, Wal Mart in ... read more

Sorry it has taken me 2 days to get this in but after all we did on Wednesday, I was way too tired to blog that night! We got up and had a fantastic breakfast at the B&B - stuffed French toast...incredible! After breakfast at 9:30 we headed east through the national park to go to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. My dog, Dez, and I love to watch Dogtown (it is filmed at Best Friends) on the National Geographic channel and when I realised I was going to be in the area I just had to go and see the place. It is a sanctuary for all kinds of animals - horses, donkeys, mules, goats, sheep, dogs, cats, rabbits, birds...all of which they care for with an aim to having them adopted. If they cannot be adopted ... read more
