Thursday, 19 June, 2014 We recrossed the bridge by the Glen Canyon Dam and said goodbye to Lake Powell. We drove north on Hwy 89 through Kanab, Glendale and Hatch through such beautiful and varied landscapes. That's what I love about Utah, the vistas are ever-changing and always special. At Hwy 12 we turned east to the Dixie National Forest and the Red Canyon campground where we set up camp. After a quick lunch we headed to Bryce Canyon National Park. We drove the park road and stopped at most of the overlooks. Sean enjoyed the one called Fairyland best because he and Papa got to take a trail out onto the rocks. Friday, 20 June We drove north on scenic Hwy 89 through beautiful green valleys with the Sevier River meandering along beside us. As ... read more

Geo: 38.5733, -109.549We had a relaxing day at the Red Cliffs Lodge. We went for a trail ride on horseback in the morning, wine tasting in the afternoon, and a Hummer off-road ride at sunset. The Hummer ride was crazy. We were climbing rock faces of 60 degree inclines. If you want to see some videos of others that did not do as well check out "Lions Back Crash" on YouTube.... read more

Geo: 38.5733, -109.549We just finished 4 amazing days and nights rafting about 95 miles of the Colorado River through Cataract Canyon. We slept each night on cots under the stars.....incredible. The water was extremely high because of the snow melt so the rapids were pretty awesome...Class 4 and 5. And, there was a stretch of rapids that lasted a mile that was pretty intense. I don't have any shots of running the rapids but hope to have some soon.At the conclusion of the rafting trip, we were supposed to take 3-5 passenger Cessna planes back to Moab, but it was too windy to land on the small airstrip (Friday the 13th). So, we had to take a 3 hour bus trip in a less than air conditioned bus to get back to Moab.....all part of the ... read more

Geo: 38.5733, -109.549We did brunch in Salt Lake City this morning, took the kids through Temple Square, and hit the road to Moab. It was a 4 hour drive, but we arrived in Moab around 3:30. It really looked like we could get hit with a storm. We could see it in the distance, and the wind was kicking when we set up camp. But, it is beautiful now.Hopefully, we will cook out tonight and play a little guitar around the fire.Gonna explore Arches Nation Park tomorrow, before we head to our hotel in the town at Moab. White water rafting starts Tuesday morning, and we will be camping along the river for 3 nights. So, after tomorrow, you won't hear from us until after the white water rafting trip. I know....it is going to be ... read more

Moab We arrive at the Moab Valley RV Resort at about mid-day. It’s a great site & the facilities are amazing. They cater for RVs, Cabins & Tents. There’s good Wi-Fi, a swimming pool (with many folk in swimwear having a great time), a hot tub & location – surrounded by red rock cliffs & snow covered mountains. Many families come here for a day or 2. Its 3 miles from Moab centre. We soon decide to stay an extra 2 nights to base ourselves here while we enjoy Arches NP, Canyonlands NP and Dead Horse Point State park – all in Utah. We do some shopping for camping gear, RV gear and a dress for Cags (who’s fed up of wearing trousers all the time) followed by a trip to the local store with Fresh ... read more

The Copper Ridge Dinosaur Trackway is located north of Moab, Utah. The site was discovered by Linda Dale Jennings Lockley in 1989. The trackway includes imprints left by a large turning sauropod brontosaur and four theropod carnivores of various sizes. The Copper Ridge site with its abundance of different tracks is a rare find. The Copper Ridge trailhead is about 2 miles east of Highway 191 on a dirt road that is accessible by car. The turnoff is across from the large microwave tower between mileposts 148 and 149. Immediately after turning east the dirt road crosses the railroad tracks where you will see a BLM sign for the 'Dinosaur Tracks 2 Miles'. The road might not be suitable during very wet weather. There is a register where the trail starts at the base of the ... read more
