This is my test entry before the upcoming Road Trip - not sure how this site works, so thought I would test it out with some of my photos from the last trip. These are some of the sunset photos I took from a couple of days in Arches NP. I had only been there once before during sunset, but ended up going back several times last year. The first time we were a little late, and drove like mad from place to place, trying to get the best light. The next night we decided on a relaxing evening, so took our lawn chairs and just kicked back. I may have walked around a little, but most of the photos from that evening were taken from my lawn chair. Arches is beautiful all the time, but ... read more

A short distance north of I 70 (4.2 miles) on an oil & gravel road, The “town” of Thompson’s Springs is as close as you’ll ever get to a town on the verge of being a ghost town. Take a moment to view the old downtown. There is an old rail station, hotel, motel, and boarded up stores. This was once a major rail/highway point for all of southern Utah, but not any more. The rock art is in the canyon is from three different Native American Cultures UTE, BARRIER and FREMONT. I strongly suggest do not take a big rig any farther than the rock art site, the first of which you’ll see on your right. The BLM has a nice picnic/viewing area, but does not allow camping. If you continue up the road a ... read more

Aber ... read more

Whenever we go to the beach, the kids always build sandcastles. Basic, simple structures that barely stand and usually wash away in the tide before we've left for the day. If only we could build them to withstand the tests of time as well as Bryce Canyon has. There is an area within Bryce Canyon National Park known as the Amphitheater. Visitors can walk along the rim that skirts the top edge of the canyon, or can hike down into the canyon itself. Either path invites you to witness and explore a sculpted, artistic world of sandstone creations that defy the imagination. It's almost as if you were seeing what God would do were He to spend a day at the beach. The canyon is riddled with intricate, delicate columns of sandstone, carved and decorated in ... read more

The one about today is a much better day than yesterday. Thank goodness!! I am back to being a happy camper. I have some good photos, some good stories, and I am now one day short of being at my daughter’s! What could be better!!! After I wrote last night I finally got some neighbors who are worthy of a paragraph or 2. Two 20 foot trailers pulled by big Ford Diesel pickups. Noisy. They had to back into their sites, and one did it on one try, the other had to back and forth, back and forth for what seemed like forever. Noise pollution. After they both finished a third vehicle pulled in and parked with one set of wheels on the road and the other in the grass off the loop. This was another ... read more

Be sure to see the panoramas on the last three blog entries. The one on this blog is of our campground taken from the roof. Head out for the little town of Moab today. Lots of neat shops and restaurants. What friendly people too, we really enjoyed the day. Had fun going in the different Trading Posts and had lunch at Zax’s, a really cool place with an enormous Moose head on the wall! Marge wanted to take it home! Saw a guy on the street in a Georgia Tech T-shirt, but turns out he was from Colorado. Maybe he went to G.T. It was a beautiful, mid-80 degree day, but by the time we left it was 97. When we returned to the campground, and a bit more elevation, it was only 85. Much nicer. ... read more

We got up around 7:30AM. Took the dogs to the dog run and then gave dad his father’s day gifts. A silver “Kroozie” for his bike and the “Game of Thrones” book series. We then packed up and headed out. We would have loved to have hiked the National Park, but we had a 7 hour drive ahead of us, so decided to keep moving on. The drive out of Moab was really pretty. The drive into Colorado was nice, especially when we came into the town of Edwards. From there on it was gorgeous!! That lead us into Vail. There were still patches of snow on the mountains and waterfalls flowing off the sides of the mountains. Stunning! We hit some hills and really slowed down, so Chris decided to have me drive the rest ... read more

From the Grand forested mountains and cool weather of Jackson Hole we headed to the hot red rock desert of Moab, UT (stopping for a short time along the way at the Great Salt Lake and Park City Utah...in the last blog) The change in landscape and weather was dramatic - for us and the pooch - daytime highs in Jackson were mid 60's and daytime highs in Moab were mid 90's with a hot direct sun overhead. Moab is renowned for mountain biking and lays the claim that the sport originated there. Needless to say our 3 days in Moab were all about biking. Day 1 - We rode the Klondike Bluff trails, moderate and not too technical. Shan is morphing into a mountain biker... That evening we headed into Arches National Park for a ... read more
