We've stayed another day in Moab as our base for visiting nearby Canyonlands National Park and Deadhorse Point State Park. We started the morning off with Deadhorse, which is on a mesa. The story about the name is that the Indians would herd wild horses on the mesa to this point so that they could capture them but some would run right off the edge. The views are much like the Grand Canyon, and in fact were formed by the same river, the Colorado River. From there we went to Canyonlands, which is on another side of the same mesa, with even bigger canyon views. Barb and I hiked a short climb to see a section called Upheaval Dome, well worth the hike. We went back into Moab for an early dinner and spent the evening ... read more

I guess its not an adventure unless you've overcome challenges. This morning as we were preparing to leave the campground I went outside to empty the waste tanks and when I pulled the valve open our sewer hose promptly blew apart. The result wasn't as bad as the scene with Robin Williams in the movie "RV", but it did require some unpleasant cleanup. What a way to start the day. We got on the road and soon crossed the border into Utah. The countryside changed to basically a desert. For forty or fifty miles along I-70 for as far as you could see in any direction about the only sign of human beings was the highway itself. As we approached Moab we started to see lots of red rock formations. We checked into our campground and ... read more

Well finally found a Maccas with good reception Well I will try to remember what I've been upto so far. I left about 9am and the first stop was Bridal Veil Falls and WIldwood on the Provo River. I rafted down this river with my friends 4 years ago. If I did it now my head would be still floating downstream as the bridges are too low to get under. From here I restocked the food pantry in South Fork and headed up the canyon to Moab. Stopped at a couple of rest areas. one was on a hill giving the viewer a 360 deg. view. I was going to visit some rock art, but missed the turn off. The road signs to anywhere except on the freeways are very poor. Next destination was Dead Horse ... read more

On the road by 8.30a.m. 5 1/2 hrs to Denver. Went back through Custer and then headed south to the Wyoming border to Cheyenne before getting over the border into Colorado. We came down off the plateau into the Buffalo Gap National Parkland. Big Ranches out this way! Denver was basically an overnighter enroute to Moab - we took an hour or so walk around town...called into a brewery for a beer..then back to hotel for GM's reception drinks and eats 5.30 to 7.30p.m. ...good deal included in room rate...then out for a small Indian meal. We all kind of though Denver was in the Rockies, but a very flat normal city....with the Rockies quite a few miles away in the background. Enjoyed our short stay here and headed for Moab the next morning.5 1/2 hr ... read more

A chaque ... read more

Le soir venu, ... read more

If Sunday was a day of rest, Monday was a day of total rest. We just soaked up the hospitality of Scott and Julie at the 3 step hideaway. This is truly a special place. I have stayed in many B&B’s, but none with this level of hospitality and genuine friendliness. I attribute this special status to a common love - motorcycles and just genuinely friendly people. And before I forget the food was awesome. Scoot showed us around the place from the root cellar and original buildings that go back to the 1890’s to the solar array that provides enough power for the whole place. And of course there was the workshop where he keeps the bikes, spares and much more. Rob and Rik lap up this stuff and I basically just like to ride ... read more

Sunday - a day of rest. After a great brunch at the Eclectic Cafe we took a short ride from Moab out along Route 128 to Castle Valley. An incredibly scenic route along the Colorado River with the red canyons on either side. A motorcyclists dream. Back into Moab and an hour or two outside the closed public library stealing the wifi before heading off to the 3-step hideaway http://www.3stephideaway.com/. A place Rob had discovered 45 miles south west of Moab past LaSal. A wonderfully remote and self-sufficient place full of bikers and adventurers run by Scott And Julie nestled in the Lisbon Valley. Had fun navigating the K1300 up the dirt track to the hideaway - it was wet and slippery and I had to walk the bike along. Still feeling a bit unsure after ... read more
