(English version on the bottom) Liebe Verwandte und Freunde Ruhig zieht der Colorado-River vorbei, rot leuchten die gegenüberliegenden Felsen im Abendlicht.

Lots to do today! My morning began at the Sego Canyon Petroglyph site. The canyon is located behind a tiny little town in Utah and it’s worth a visit. The red petroglyphs are eerie to look at. One wonders what its makers had in mind. Were they ancestor/aliens? Were they spirits/angels/aliens? Were they shamans/aliens? Or just simply aliens/aliens? I liked the elongated one the best. The wall that was my favorite was lower to the ground and they were life-sized. I couldn't help but take a picture with them, making me a descendant/alien. I was then ready to head to Dead Horse Point State Park. You pretty much have to pass by it on the way to Canyonlands National Park. It is a great place to see the effects of the river as it eroded the ... read more

Two national parks are located in the Moab Utah area: Arches National Park, and Canyonlands National Park. Moab is known as a Utah adventure capitol, offering activities such as biking the Slickrock Trail, off-road routes and the Moab Jeep Safari, rafting down the Colorado River and hiking to Delicate Arch - Utah's famous icon. From scenic parks to adventure, Moab Utah offers something for everyone. The Biblical name Moab refers to an area of land located on the eastern side of the Jordan River. Some historians believe the city in Utah came to use this name because of William Pierce, the first postmaster, believing that the biblical Moab and this part of Utah were both "the far country". However, others believe the name has Paiute origins, referring to the word "moapa" meaning mosquito. Some of the ... read more

Sunday, May 20, 2012 We drove to Arches National Park this morning. There were dramatic arches and rock formations but lots of people. We decided to hike in the park on our way to Grand Junction. We had a park overview but mostly drove. We needed to get back to do laundry and get groceries for tomorrows camping at Dead Horse State Park between Canyonlands and Arches. We had dinner in Moab at a café with vocals in the background. We had a some what sleepless night for both of us. We looked at our VISA bill and noticed a $5000 charge that did not belong to us. We canceled our card and hoped for the best.... read more

Wednesday, May 9th (continued) Drove back north and turned alongside of the Colorado River up the scenic highway 128. Most BLM campgrounds along the river were filled, or the spot that was open was in full sun. Extremely scenic drive with all kinds of rock formations. At mile 29, we found no one camping in the Dewey Bridge Campground. There were 4 workmen building a sun shelter for the river rafters to sit under while they wait for their rubber raft or their bus ride back to town. Paid our $6. and settled in under a big shade tree. May 10th, Thursday Blue skies and 59 degrees this morning. Starting mileage is 25397. In the Dewey Bridge BML camground. First thing we did this morning is to drive a block or so to see the bridge ... read more

Omigod! I have spent the past three days around Moab, Utah and am in hiking, treking heaven. I will have to visit this place again only for the outdoor fun such as kayaking on the Colorado River, riding the rapids in a blow up boat, mountain biking, climbing, walking, canyoning, motorbike riding and I’m sure I forgot heaps of other stuff one can spend money on around here. Moab is surrounded by National Parks, State Parks and BLM areas and the camping is fantastic. I spent two days on the Colorado River, one of them by birthday, and while I spent the day walking every trail I could find without needing a backcountry permit (not easy to get) and returned every afternoon for a dip in the river watching climbers scale the famous Fisher towers, stand ... read more

I ended up staying an extra day in Crested Butte. Dan ran into a little electrical trouble in Durango, so I assumed he would take longer to get to Moab. He actually got everything fixed and was on the road in a couple hours. This gave him the morning by him self in Moab to go mountain bike the 'Whole Enchilada'. I said goodbye to my brother, sister-in-law and nephew early in the morning and then headed out to Moab on a beautiful two-lane highway. I got to the Lazy Lizard in Moab around three, checked in and went to explore the town. I found the local micro-brew pub where I watched a little college football before heading back to the hostel. Dan had just got back from the 24 mile downhill ride that is the ... read more

I drove out of Moab the way I came in, heading northwest. Just beyond town limits, I crossed something I didn’t notice in the dark, the Colorado River. Since I’m upstream of Glen Canyon Dam (see ), the river looks the way a desert river should, muddy brown from silt. Red cliffs appear on all sides. Moab was founded here because it’s the only safe crossing spot for hundreds of miles. Dead Horse Point State Park Past the river, the road enters the pair of slip faults from yesterday. It eventually encounters a lonely road junction at the entrance to a canyon to the east. The only thing here is a big sign discussing Canyonlands National Park. The road goes to another of the park’s four districts, the Island in the Sky. It’s a huge mesa ... read more

We would have liked to stay in FT. Collins longer but good off-road riding was calling and we had to answer. Our base camp was just north of Moab in a little recreation area parked a stones throw from the Colorado River. The trails were multi-use so you could hike, bike, 4x4, atv, and motorbike!!!! The pix will speak for themselves. We also decided to try to hike the same canyon that the movie 127 hours was based on, it was kinda creepy. We got about half way and had to stop due to lack of canyoneering experience and gear. It was cool none the less!!! video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pou2yvVxP4... read more
