I had a dreary Dallas weekend. It was rainy and cloudy all weekend long and I seemed to be in a funk. Having been to Dallas plenty of times I just didn't feel like taking in museums or anything so Steve decided to drop me off at a certain grassy knoll and conveniently located book depository. The JFK Assassination Sight was a lot more crowded than I thought it would be. You can take a tour but in overhearing a little bit of the tour most of lectures seemed centered around conspiracy theories and not being in the mood to hear any I skipped it. We all know Elvis did it. There is an X in the middle of the road. It’s where Kennedy was first shot. At first I didn't want to take a picture ... read more

I leave tomorrow. I'm so excited that I can't stand it. I have been having some trouble with my travel agency. I now have my return flights taken care of (they were scheduled 5 minutes apart, leaving me no time to catch the second one). So, I will no longer be stuck in Toronto! They still haven't emailed me the vouchers for the hostel I booked for Tuesday night. I might have to get ugly with them soon. Other than those little issues, everything is great!! In 1d 2h 30m, I'll be on that plane, wishing I was off of it.... read more

Our maiden voyage with Coco and Rhonda (the Honda) was Fri., May 13. We drove to Austin late Friday and arrived after dark at the La Hacienda RV park at Lake Travis. Alan did a great job backing Coco into a pretty tight space. Thanks to the Workcampers for holding flashlights! Stephen came to see us Friday nite. Took NO photos all weekend - shame on us. Tried out our new grill at lunch on Saturday with John, Tina and the kids (from San Antonio), then Stephen and 4 buddies came for a dinner cookout and the Mavericks game. We shared the driving back to DFW, made our first truck stop visit for diesel (thanks to a nice good ol' boy trucker for his help), and didn't have any major screwups! Bus is getting some last ... read more

Well just thought that I would do a quick update on what's been going on... Anyways, can't quiet remember where I left off so I will just start with our arrival in Dallas. Then we got tickets to the Play offs game like I think I mentioned. Natalie and I got No 41 - Dirk's singlet so that we looked the part and I swear to god the atmosphere was amazing - and just went Nat and I thought that we'd died and gone to heaven and that things couldn't get any better we got to go down to centre court with about 13 other ladies to be 1/2 time entertainment in front of everyone!!!!! What are the chances of two Aussies getting to be amongst that!!! The stadium was packed and we were nervous and ... read more

Drove past the Battle of Alamo site where 2 many lost their lives…. Here is a bit of background on the battle…. On March 5, day twelve of the siege, Santa Anna announced an assault for the following day. This sudden declaration stunned his officers. The enemy's walls were crumbling. No Texan relief column had appeared. When the provisions ran out, surrender would remain the rebels' only option. There was simply no valid military justification for the costly attack on a stronghold bristling with cannons. But ignoring these reasonable objections, Santa Anna stubbornly insisted on storming the Alamo. Around 5:00 am. on Sunday, March 6, he hurled his columns at the battered walls from four directions. Texan gunners stood by their artillery. As about 1,800 assault troops advanced into range, canister ripped through their ranks. Staggered ... read more

We watched the Grand Canyon get smaller for hours as we drove away… Seeing the snow capped mountains in the distance amongst the dry rock formations is a beautiful contrast. We made it to Monument Valley, Navajo Tribal Park and took a bus tour, once again, amazing natural structures. It was very very cold there. The reserve is 16 million acres and Monument Valley is set on 30,000 acres. The Navajo Indians are who the code breaks in ‘Wind Talkers’ the movie was based on, and there is a tribute to these Indians in the Burger King as the owners father was one of the talkers in the war. The Navajo’s are the ‘care takers’ of the land. They have ties with the Tibetan Monks and the Deli Lama as they share a lot of the ... read more

After waking up at Waldorf we decided not to park again on a slant as we roll to that side and sleep uncomfortably. We did some almost forgotten shopping and drove down to the Concho River where we did our morning constitutional. Before long we were head into a group of 5-K runners. They did not want to give up the sidewalk so we chose another route that brought us through the historic part of town. Today mostly antique shops the old town is still busy. The facades of the buildings remain oldwest, and the insides stil awit customers. We worked our way around and back to the river just in time for the last of the runners which were mostly women and children strolling along. The day past as we sat. The river is calm ... read more

Luckenbach Texas, where everybody is somebody.... Took an early morning bus tour of the LBJ Ranch, on the Perdanales River, just west of Johnson City. We are liking the Texas hill country more and more: rolling grasy meadows with big live oaks and colorful wildflowers everywhere. We spent the afternoon under a tree catching up on paperwork and doing a few minor repairs.Toward evening we drove to Luckenbach, TX. A "town" that was once for sale,"lock, stock and dancehall," it has become a country legend and a "Texas state of mind."While it has become a tour bus stop, and not a place where Willie or Waylon might just show up to play, the beer is just $1.50 during happy hour, and talented pickers and singers come every night to sit under the 500-year-old live oaks to ... read more

Love the weather there in the Summer. Cold enough in the Winter though to freeze a witch's ****. They're called Blue Northers. Here in Virginia they call them Nor'easters. See that wooden fence post to the left of the pic? That's the gate I built to keep GRETCHEN in the yard. Would ride my bike to the store because it wasn't very far, and I would turn around about halfway there because I heard something behind me, and what was it....Gretchen at full gallop. ... read more
