Part 3: Mercy Ships Orientation -- Garden Valley, TX -- April 25-30, 2004 I haven't said much about the people I met there. Most of us who were there for the orientation were from the US, but there were two people from Brazil, 3 couples from Canada, 1 girl from England. Everyone was very nice and friendly. The staff was awesome too. They have a wonderful way of treating everyone from the janitor to CEO with same kindness and respect. They have a motto which goes "We are children of the king serving children of the king." Any and all service is repected.... read more

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to Hello from Garden Valley, Texas. I am really enjoying myself here on this beautiful Mercy Ships campus. This week we have class from 8am until 5pm but after that our nights are free.  We have been learning alot about the Mercy Ships ministry and how to raise support. It has been very interesting. I will write in more detail about what went on here when I get home. Well I better go for now, others want to use the computer too. God Bless, Angel... read more

Finally, I get to break away for a little while.  I am going to see a friend of mine.  I will be flying into Mobile, Alabama, we'll head out to Biloxi, Mississippi then over to New Orleans for a bit.  I know it's not a spectacular European Vacation, but I have gone nowhere since being in Europe almost 2 years ago.  I am well over-due for a trip outta here. I leave in less than 2 weeks and as cheesy as it sounds I want to get as much as I can out of this trip.  I am looking into the "must see/must do's" of mostly New Orleans.  It has been a very long time since I have been there.  I was a small child and aside from the street jazz, dancing, sugar-dusted beignets, and the ... read more

Officially, the "Middle Age Crazy" tour has commenced.  After coming from the salon for a night of Cabo primping, I get home to find Randy and Rod discussing serious topics on the phone with Troy.  Specifically, Troy and Stephanie made it to Oakland from Denver.  Troy decided to walk to a convenience store for some beer - they had 4 hours until they had to get up to make their 6am gate call to Cabo.  So I join in the conversation: Me:  Is that Troy? Rod:  Yes - he made it to Oakland Me:  Tell him not to leave his hotel - it's a rough neighborhood Troy:  I'm on Hegensberger Road...ask Barb if there is a beer store around here. Randy:  "WOO-HOO" (raise hand and insert rock hand symbol here) Me:  Oh MY!  GO BACK TO ... read more

It will be a while before I post any REAL travel journal entries.  For the time being, I am stuck in Corporate America.  It is driving me crazy being here while my sister is in Belgium, my friend Aric is in China, my friend Clarence is moving back to Japan in July, and I know that this is the BEST time to travel.  There has been several changes in my life over the past few months.  Hopefully things are settling down and I can soon plan a trip to wherever.  I want to see my sister and go back to Europe, but I also would LOVE to see Japan again.  Knowing I have a friend there is making the temptation harder to resist.  However, lately, I have been wanting to experience a place I have yet ... read more

We have arrived in San Antonio, Texas. Before we got fired from our last job we had planned a short trip into San Antonio to see the sights. We had already booked and paid for a hotel room so rather than cancel out and lose the money we decided to just come to San Antonio and stay a week at a local RV park and use the hotel stay as a break from our trailer. We are in a large RV park mostly full with snowbirds. Lots of license plates from colder climates like Massachusetts and Colorado. Mike’s back continues to get better each day, and hopefully he will be back to normal soon. We just returned from our excursion into the city. I had booked the hotel on the website Priceline. I got on-line, indicated ... read more

Houston Texas. To say Houston is a big city is an understatement. Mike and I have been to many large cities in our travels but Houston is at the top of the heap. We met up with a long lost friend, John Bishop. John was Mike’s best buddy when they were stationed together at a remote base in eastern Turkey and just can’t seem to shake him. He was also best man at our wedding. See what I mean? The wedding was the last time we saw him so we were really happy to be able to darken his doorstep 11 years later. The visit didn’t start out on the best foot. We planned our arrival to miss rush hour traffic and we tried to set a route that avoided any traffic congestion. When we located ... read more

Next stop was San Antonio, Texas. We visited Grace, JB and Daphne, family of Kuya Brix and Ety Bea in their nice house at Wheathill. We stayed there for two weeks. I saw Shamu at SeaWorld! Visited The Alamo and River Walk. It was a blessing when I was able to attend a Vacation Bible School at a Korean Baptist Church near the house. ... read more

What I like about Texas By Gary P. Nunn You ask me what I like about Texas I tell you it's the wide open spaces! It's everything between the Sabine and the Rio Grande. It's the Llano Estacado, It's the Brazos and the Colorado; It’s the Spirit of the people who share this land! It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand It's a quarter for the jukebox, boys, Play the songs of your favorite Austin Texas band! Well, you ask me what I like about Texas It's the big timber roundneck Nacadoches Driving El Camino Real into San Antone It's the Riverwalk and Mi Tierra Jamming at the Bungo Joe The stories of the Menger Hotel and the Alamo!
