Ok, this is my dog Gretchen I had in Buda, in Texas; something like 2 years ago. Paid $35 for her. EXCELLENT guard dog, but just couldn't get it straight who actually was the boss. I guess that made her an Alpha female.....ANYway, the stories I could tell about that dog. Like the first time she came in heat and dug a hole in the 2nd bedroom of my trailer to get out to the Rottweilers who were howling for her while I was at work. Come home at midnight, and there she is, tail wagging acting like she didn't have a care in the world. What a nut, lol!! More pics of her to come.... read more

Yesterday we planted posts after clearing around a mesquite tree at Osprey Overlook. Thorn bushes like to grow close to these trees keeping their roots shaded. The walking trail to Alligator Pond road that Will mowed last week looks pretty good. We did a little trimming and it is wide enough for two to walk side-by-side. It was about 90 degrees and we drank lots of water and tried to stay in the shade; Will was nice and cool in the bobcat while drilling the fence posts as it is air conditioned. Kathy directs the drill to the correct position and Will drills the hole out. Sometimes it takes several tries to get the hole deep enough. When the holes are drilled Will puts a post into each one and we measure to make sure it ... read more

Hey everyone, I dont have much patience to sit in an internet cafe right now, on the plus side there is air conditioning, (its 100 outside and more humidity than a Colorado guy can handle,) since I'm just starting out I have a short attention span. It will improve I'm sure. So starting off I arrived in Bangkok at 1:00 am on the 18th; I'm into my fourth day here. After figuring out the bus system I made it to the the Banlamphu area; dirty, busy and wonderful. Banlamphu is just northeast of Bangkok's major cultural sites, Grand Palace, Wat (Temple) Phra Kaew, and Wat Arun to name a few. I've already made a few stupid mistakes; changing some money in LA at lousy exchange rates 29bt =1$ when the rate here is 38.3bt =1$, leaving ... read more

Traveling is my first love, everything else is my second. Looking back on all the places I've been, things I've experienced, and people I've met, I regret so badly not keeping one consistant journal throughout the years. Australia, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, France, England, Jamaica, Mexico, Czech., Germany, all throughout the United States... My next trip is a roadtrip in August (which seems so far away!) to Las Vegas (the long way via El Paso and Pheonix). I can't wait. I've always wanted to go. I keep a smaller online photo album here: click. I don't know how serious the admins at travelblog.com take their diary users. I don't know if I have to constantly be traveling all the time to maintain this account. I really just want to use it to for the time that I'm ... read more

A day at the zoo watching the gorillas, hippos, monkeys, big cats and birds then dancing to music at Harley's. . .. After our morning walk followed by breakfast at the outpost we prepared a flyer to put in stores advertizing the black van for sale. We are ready now to sell it. We came up with a list of everything included with he van and put a price to each item. It came to $4000 and includes the new brakes and transmission along with mattress, 12-volt cooler, inverter, etc. After lunch we drove to Brownsville, about 40 minutes drive and went to the Gladys Porter Zoo. High lights were: Gorillas at play, Hippos in the water, Monkeys swinging from their tails, big cats sleeping, and Flamingos and Pelecans bathing in their ponds. There are three ... read more

The highlight of this past week was a visit to the 100 acre ranch of Ray and Marge Roolf in the Texas Hill Country. Ray is a nephew from Pittsburgh, who works at Kelly Airforce Base as a procurement manager for space shuttle fuels. Marge, originally from Washington,DC., teaches the 5th grade. They bought a ranch several years ago and last summer finished building their dream home on the land. It is very remote and beautiful. Bear Creek and another stream run through it, forming clean, natural pools along the way. The house is huge, beautifully built, with lot's of built-ins. Being able to walk this natural hill country ranch, and enjoy the wonderful hospitality of Ray and Marge were an important part of our trip to Texas. We have also been biking in various areas around ... read more

The kite competitions were held today. Two teams did routines. Four people each with a two string kite fly in formations. It is spectacular to watch. A guy from Huston, TX came down and set up lots of kites to add to the festivities. He had big lizards, a cat, a teddy bear, trains of 50-100 kites and had fun keeping them all in the air. He showed Will how to fly an airfoil plane. It had a big pull with air filling the foil. Will had it doing loops! For just $150 he could own his one. Will helped Rick, the guy from Huston put away all the kites and we headed back toward the refuge. We stopped at Walmart for supplies and at Harley's for some entertainment. John Paul was playing with his band, ... read more
