With a couple interviews scheduled for Thursday, today was more of a catch up day for the family and I. I installed a really cool curvy shower rod that gives me 3 feet of more room in my shower. I also installed two new faucets in the kitchen for my mother. God, she was happy...I've never been much of a plumber, but we all think I did a pretty good job. I got a little help from Riley, who happens to be pretty handy with a wrench! I had a couple problems with my deposit for my class in Prague. My bank won't authorize payment because its from a different country. I will have to wire the funds over to Prague tomorrow. What a hassle... ... read more

What to do, what to do? Between now and November 14th, I have to make as much money as possible in the shortest amount of time. Anyone have any ideas? For now, I have come up with the following ideas: 1. The obvious: Get a job...I went to Babin's Fish Restaurant, Salt Grass Steakhouse, and a small bistro today and dropped off applications for serving or bussing. Another opportunity was mentioned earlier. Since my mother is a speech pathologist, she gave me the idea of substitute teaching. The pay is good, and the hours are resonable. Its likely I could do both of these jobs simutaneously...That'll get the ball rolling! 2. Ebay: I found a bunch of old stuff in my room that I plan on taking pictures of and auctioning them off on ebay. I ... read more

It starts...at 9:14PM CST in Katy, TX, right outside of Houston. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, I write this with hopes that the morning will not bring mass desctruction and devistation in one of my favorite cities in New Orleans. My adventure begins with a brief description of what lies ahead of me. Earlier this month I decided my so called life needed a so called change. Knowing that it involved some major changes, I decided to get a teaching certification in Prague, Czech Republic that will let me teach English anywhere in the world after its completion. I leave in November, and I will going through a 4 week, intensive training program that will leave me with all the resources to sufficently teach after completion. Find out more at INTESOL.COM So...I'm biding my time. ... read more

That was a journey! My plane was intended to leave London Heathrow yesterday at 1pm, but didn't leave until 2pm. This was our saving grace. 10 minutes after we should have arrived in Toronto, a plane crashed (there were 24 injured, but no fatalities). Our flight was diverted to Ottawa where we set on the plane in a field for 5 hours. I found out later from an Air Canada manager that the pilot had dropped our fuel to speed our landing, but had dropped it too soon and we almost didn't have enough to land. By the time we finally exited the plane, we had been on it for 14 hours! We were in the airport for an hour and a half (going through customs and collecting our bags). Next, we were loaded into buses ... read more

Hey all. Welcome to my travelblog. I'll be using this while I'm in India so that you can come and check it at your convenience. I'm leaving a week from tomorrow, and I couldn't be more excited. First I'm going to Hyderabad to stay with Nandy's parents (Nandy is a family friend). From there I will fly to Trivandrum and make my way to Vijnana Kala Vedi, the cultural center where I'm going to take me classes. While I'm there I hope to visit Kochi (where there is a five hundred year old synagogue) and Madurai (where there is an equally old and amazingly ornate Hindu temple). I'd also like to go to this very neat ashram where one of India's few female gurus lives. We'll see how much I get done. Hopefully by the time ... read more

Well, I guess I forgot to tell you about my birthday—so to recap…. Impromptu festivities in Santa Barbara! Which started and ended at the El Encanto Hotel overlooking the beautiful Santa Barbara Harbor. Felic, Ben, Kat & Mark, Kelly, Elizabeth and I all met for cocktails on the patio. Then the ladies and I headed to the Four-Season Biltmore for a delicious 4course dinner. After that, back downtown to meet up with Mattie, Kyle, and Dave for more cocktails and some dancing at the James Joyce. As a bonus I ran into a couple of old friends and we partied late into the night…only to awake to the “fancy “ room service served on the porch swing. Ahh the life! Not bad for 33, huh? JUNE 2005 Sadly, I was sick for a portion of ... read more

I leave tomorrow. I'm so excited that I can't stand it. I have been having some trouble with my travel agency. I now have my return flights taken care of (they were scheduled 5 minutes apart, leaving me no time to catch the second one). So, I will no longer be stuck in Toronto! They still haven't emailed me the vouchers for the hostel I booked for Tuesday night. I might have to get ugly with them soon. Other than those little issues, everything is great!! In 1d 2h 30m, I'll be on that plane, wishing I was off of it.... read more

It hardly seems possible that only 3 weeks ago it never even occurred to me to go to France and now Erika and I are heading off to the airport for our flight..... Since the flight wasn't until late afternoon we decided to work until noon. We then headed to my house where Mom and Dad were to drive us to the airport. After a few last minute details and instructions to Mom and Dad about Matthew we threw the suitcases in the truck and headed out. We arrived at IAH airport at about 2:00 pm and got checked in pretty quickly. Since we were there with lots of time to spare we had some lunch at Subway and excitedly chattered on about all the things we were going to do and how we couldn't believe ... read more
